11: Still Uncivilized

Barrett’s alarm went off, but he was already awake and ready to go. Barrett was wide awake at five o’clock in the morning since he had been unable to get to sleep any time throughout the previous night.

When he looked around, he noticed that many of the cots were already totally occupied by people who were getting ready to work.

Everyone who slept there had some way, or another lost their way in life and deserved what they got.

Barrett looked at them. In Abdul’s eyes, they were simply paying their debt with work.

“If I were you, I would get up. After all, the food is not enough for everyone again!” One of them said, walking.

Barrett nodded. Even though he wasn’t hungry, he knew that because of the way he worked, it was important for him to maintain a healthy diet.

Strolling out of the warehouse where the other workers slept, he joined them in walking out to the pier where they were waiting to line up.
