“Fiona’s already there. Let’s go,” the old man said once Joseph was seated.

“I’m ready,” Joseph replied.

“Then let’s move,” Old Mr. Cooper told the driver.

The chauffeur started the engine, and the car pulled out.

Behind them, Alvarez followed with two additional vehicles.

Roughly half an hour later, the convoy entered Greenfield Villa. After a few more minutes, they stopped outside a familiar house.

Joseph looked out the window at the villa. His eyes narrowed, emotions swirling within him.

He had thought he would never return to this place. And yet, here he was again.

Joseph and the others parked a short distance from the villa, but none of them got out immediately.

The heavy iron gates were tightly shut, secured with oversized padlocks on either side. Outside stood a group of servants from the Cooper estate, gripping wooden batons as they maintained a tense watch.

Fiona, who had arrived ahead of the others, stood just outside the gate, attempting to reason with those inside.

In that moment, Joseph felt something shift—Alice wasn’t just a guest in this house anymore. She was acting more and more like a gentle, attentive wife."You’ve been eating well at the Cooper house, right? They wouldn’t let you starve, would they?" Alice asked while pouring him a glass of water and setting it in front of him. There was no denying it—Alice was growing into her role. She was becoming more poised, more caring… more like a wife. And somehow, this quiet transformation didn’t feel strange to Joseph at all.It felt… natural. As if this was how things were always meant to be."Now that old Mr. Cooper has regained consciousness, they wouldn’t dare let me go hungry." Joseph chuckled as he took a sip of water."Hmph. You saved their lives—doesn’t mean they’ll be grateful." "Joseph, don’t forget how the Cooper family treated you all these years. Especially your ex-wife—she never could stand to see you doing well.""You’re just too honest, too kind. That’s why they think you’

"I’m a joke." Fiona’s voice trembled with emotion, her eyes glistening with tears. Faced with Joseph’s words, she was utterly speechless."Life moves forward. I hope you won't stay trapped in the past.""Everyone will eventually have a new life of their own, just like how I’m no longer the same man I once was.""So let the past go, Fiona."Joseph sighed. He truly didn’t know how else to persuade her."But how do I let it go?" Fiona’s voice was laced with pain. "Maybe… if I hadn’t looked down on you back then, everything would’ve turned out differently."Her emotions had been on a rollercoaster lately. So much had happened—it was as if every memory from those years had turned into a sharp blade, stabbing at her heart."Even if we could go back in time, it wouldn’t change anything. Even if you had tried to understand me, I was still the same broken man.""Time reveals who will stand by you through the storms," Joseph said. "And time also shows you who appears when you need them mos

"You silly child, what are you saying? Your mother and I have been best friends for so many years.""If I don't help you, who else would I help? Joseph, that useless man?" Maria Long tried to comfort him."Auntie and Uncle, about Fiona... I really need your help. I truly love her." Charles Martin spoke with a hint of urgency."Of course, of course," Maria replied smoothly. "You see, I've been needing a housekeeper or someone to help with the cooking. Most of my time is spent doing housework and preparing meals.""If I had someone to take care of that, I’d have more time to talk to Fiona on your behalf." Maria dropped the hint with deliberate subtlety."Don’t worry, Auntie. I’ll take care of hiring a housekeeper right away!" Charles responded eagerly."Then I’m counting on you," Maria said with a smile, clearly satisfied. With Maria’s not-so-subtle encouragement, Charles once again threw himself into action.---Cooper Group, Fiona's OfficeFiona sat at her desk, her brows faintl

“I saw them.”Fiona's voice was cold, her tone distant.“Then why didn’t you pick up?”Charles Martin asked, clueless as ever.“Just because I saw them doesn’t mean I have to answer. Since when am I obligated to take your calls?”Fiona’s reply dripped with contempt. After everything that had happened, her disgust toward Charles had reached its peak.“That’s not what I meant…”Charles was stunned. What was with Fiona today? She sounded like she’d swallowed gunpowder.“Charles Martin, I know you’ve taken in my parents. But let me give you a piece of advice—send them back. Send them back to our three-story house.”“Don’t say I didn’t warn you. My parents are not easy people to live with.”Fiona’s words were sharp, her tone unflinching. She knew her parents better than anyone. In this world, probably only Joseph had the patience to tolerate them for so long. And even that realization had only hit her after Joseph left. But even someone as mild-tempered as Joseph had finally had enough—he

“You can't be serious. Sure, I should have a place of my own in Nova City, but I can’t just use your money.”“And even if I did, not putting your name on the deed would be completely unfair to you.”Joseph was genuinely moved by Heidi’s words. He suddenly recalled how, whenever they went out for meals, it was always Heidi who paid—generously, without hesitation. She even used to slip him money, claiming it was living expenses from home. But now it was clear—those so-called “living expenses” had been her own savings all along.“Seriously, are you dumb? If my name’s on the deed, what if one of your little girlfriends starts digging and traces it back to me? Wouldn't we be exposed?”Heidi said it bluntly, without hesitation.Joseph nearly choked on her words.She... had really thought this through.“See? I have a point, don’t I?”Heidi tilted her head at him.“We'll talk about this later. Give me some time to think it through.”Joseph replied hastily.“Think all you want. I don’t mind pa

After returning to the Cooper family estate, Joseph made his way toward the inner quarters. Upon asking one of the attendants outside, he learned that Old Mr. Cooper had already returned to his hospital room.Without delay, Joseph headed there directly.Inside the room, he found Heidi gently tucking the quilt over Old Mr. Cooper. He stepped in quietly."Joseph, has Blake Morgan left?" Old Mr. Cooper asked upon seeing him."He just did," Joseph replied."Good. As for the person your master mentioned, go and meet him. If you need help, don't hesitate to come to me.""The Cooper family may not have the vast influence of the Morgans, but in Nova City, our voice still carries weight.""I understand. Sir, please focus on your recovery and cooperate with the therapy team. Get some rest—I’ll come visit you again next week."Joseph patted the back of Old Mr. Cooper’s hand gently."Heidi, if anything comes up with the old man, give me a call," he added, glancing at her and miming a phone call.

“It’s nothing major. Uncle Mason told me there’s a family dinner planned this weekend at Alice’s place.”“He said he and Aunt Molly have registered their marriage, and they wanted to gather everyone for a meal. He asked me to let you and Alice know.”Joseph relayed the message without much thought.“He didn’t mention that to me…”“No, something about this feels off.”Old Mr. Morgan frowned. It was indeed strange—why would Mason Morgan have Joseph deliver this message? What did that mean? Hadn’t Mason always been at odds with Joseph?“What’s off about it?”Joseph raised an eyebrow.“That brat asked you to tell me? Meaning, you knew about it before I did?”Old Mr. Morgan pressed.“Yes. Is that a problem?”Joseph was puzzled.“Since when did he get so close to you? And knowing his personality... if he still held a grudge, why would he choose Alice’s home as the venue?”Old Mr. Morgan voiced his suspicions.“Uncle Mason did have some misunderstandings about me in the beginning, but those

“So, what was that so-called remarkable thing? Old Morgan, could you stop speaking in riddles? You're killing me with suspense!”Old Mr. Cooper was clearly growing impatient—he had always been the more hot-headed of the two.“Old Mr. Morgan, what exactly did you find out?” Joseph asked as well, his tone serious.“Your master sent all two hundred thousand enemy prisoners... to Siberia to grow potatoes.”Blake Morgan gave a light cough before delivering his revelation.“Tch, I thought you were going to say something earth-shattering. What’s so special about that? Our northern neighbors used to do the same thing, didn’t they?”“Prisoners of war have to suffer—it's the way of things. Besides, Elysia and the Dreadmoor Dominion have been mortal enemies for generations. That petty kingdom has always dreamed of conquest. Whenever they grow stronger, they wage war. The blood debts they owe Elysia are countless.”“So, centuries of conflict—what’s so surprising about that?”Old Mr. Cooper scoffe

"I want to remember... fragments from the past. I can feel it—there are countless important memories I've lost.""I try to recall them, but my mind is a mess, a blur of chaos. The harder I force myself to remember, the more painful it becomes."Joseph rubbed his temples, weariness etched across his expression."If you can't remember, then perhaps it's best not to force it," said old Mr. Cooper gently, noticing the pain in Joseph's face. "Maybe Brian Adams could tell you everything.""But... I did notice something in those words," Joseph said suddenly, his eyes drawn once again to the large characters before him, his tone certain."Oh?" "Go on," Blake Morgan urged, a glimmer of curiosity in his eyes."These words... were written with my master's blood."Joseph bowed over the white cloth, as if trying to catch the scent lingering upon it."A blood-written message," old Mr. Cooper said sharply."My master was a great calligrapher. He always said a person's character is revealed through
