"Really?" Alice blushed slightly, glancing at Joseph shyly. Hearing that he was so excited for her cooking made her feel that all her efforts were worthwhile.

"Of course," Joseph replied, still smiling.

"This will be the first time I cook for a guy. But I’m pretty confident I’ll whip up something amazing. I’ve always had a knack for cooking," Alice said, her confidence shining through.

"I can tell," Joseph said, leaning into her encouragement.

"Hehe, so you’ve noticed, huh?" Alice giggled. "Here, why don’t you pick? Order whatever you like!" She handed the menu to Joseph.

"What about you? Don’t you have anything you particularly want to eat?" Joseph asked curiously.

"Whatever Joseph likes, I like too. I’ll eat whatever you choose," Alice said sweetly, resting her chin on her hands as she gazed at Joseph with large, adoring eyes. Her intense focus on him made Joseph blush slightly.

"Ahem, alright then. I’ll pick something," Joseph said, clearing his throat as he began marking the dishe

“Wasn’t everything just fine? Why the ‘nourishing’ bit?”Joseph sighed, helpless.“Oh, drop the act. Haven’t you felt completely drained these past few days?”“Little Nini and I only stopped pestering you because we were worried you couldn’t handle it.”“Well? Don’t we treat you well?”Mason Alvarez shot Joseph a look as she spoke.“You’re both very good to me. Really.”Joseph’s answer was perfunctory, though a faint smile tugged at his lips.“Perfuctory.”“Then give me a kiss.”Mason Alvarez tilted her face to him.“This isn’t exactly appropriate. It’s early.”Joseph was exasperated.“What’s inappropriate about it? Hurry up.”Mason Alvarez wouldn’t let it go.Under her insistence, Joseph finally surrendered and brushed a light kiss against her impossibly lovely cheek. There was no denying it—she was pure witchcraft.Any other man would have lost his composure.“Smooch!”After his quick peck, Mason smacked a hot, lingering kiss right back onto Joseph.“I’m going to wash up.”Mason ros

For the next hour or so, Joseph endured a blissful kind of torment.Only after that did the two women finally set him free.He spent a short while in his room, then went to shower. When he came out, the hall was empty—Mason Alvarez and Alice were nowhere to be seen. It was only a little past ten, yet both had gone to bed early.Even more surprising, he drifted off without trouble. Neither of them sneaked in to tease him that night. It felt a little strange, but hardly a bad thing. Some things were best done in moderation. He could handle it, but Mason and Alice were still delicate; they shouldn’t be run ragged. After all, his constitution wasn’t exactly average. He hadn’t been in bed long before sleep took him.He turned in early; naturally, he rose early too. Before eight, he’d already made breakfast. The two lazybones, Alice and Mason, showed no sign of getting up.Since they wanted to sleep in, Joseph didn’t call them—he simply left breakfast set out on the table. After eating, he

“I just ate. I’m not hungry—no need for a late-night snack.”Joseph smiled.“Alright then—how about some fruit? I’ll go wash some.”Alice’s eyes sparkled; she grinned.“Fruit sounds perfect.”Joseph replied.“Then I’ll get it. Go sit on the sofa and relax.”She pecked Joseph on the cheek again before trotting off to the kitchen.“Unbelievable. I just said the fruit was gone and told her to wash some—she wouldn’t budge. Now she rushes off on her own.”“Priorities, priorities. Traitor to friendship. Wretched woman.”Mason Alvarez threw her arms up theatrically.“Why are you always bossing her around?”Joseph poured himself a glass of water and settled onto the sofa.“Mr. Wilson—mwah! mua! (╯3╰)”No sooner had he sat than Mason swooped in for a mock kiss, leaving Joseph momentarily nonplussed.“Tch. What’s that look? Are you disgusted?”“The little one kisses you and you beam. I kiss you and you look like you’ve swallowed a lemon.”“You shameless man—such favoritism.”Mason pouted at his

“Uncle, Auntie, wherever you came from, go back there. You won’t be homeless, will you? In any case, it’s no longer appropriate for you to stay here.”Charles Martin drew a long breath and spoke.“Charles?”Maria Long tried to say something, but the words wouldn’t come.“It’s decided. You have two or three days—move out. Tell me when you’re leaving. If you don’t, I’ll come by myself.”“All right, I’m busy. I’m hanging up.”Charles didn’t want to go in circles with Maria and Stephen any longer. He ended the call.Left with a dead line, Maria and Stephen simply stared at one another.“Joseph. It’s Joseph again—that insidious, scheming Joseph. Damn him.”“Why won’t he leave us alone, even now?”Maria found her voice at last, each word bitten off with spite.“Let’s think what to do. If we leave here, where can we go?”“I was thinking—could we return to the old house?”Stephen’s brow furrowed deep.“Stephen, are you out of your mind? Back to the old house? You think your heartless father w

“Soon—within a week or two. Once it’s set, I’ll tell you.”Her little cousin replied to Heidi almost at once.“Just come straight to the Cooper family estate. My parents probably don’t know what’s been going on at home, do they?”Heidi asked again.“Huh? What’s going on?”“You know my mom and your aunt don’t really get along. I don’t think they’ve spoken in ages.”Her cousin added.Heidi briefly filled her in on what had happened over the past weeks.Family scandal, perhaps—but no longer the point.“Oh? So that’s how it is. Then when we come, Mom and I will just visit you and our eldest cousin.”Her cousin said.“It’s up to you. But you should talk to Auntie—bring her up to speed.”Heidi instructed.“I know.”“I’ll tell my mom.”“Cousin, I’ve got to go—Mom’s calling me.”With that, her cousin said goodbye and fell silent.Heidi changed into her pajamas before stepping out of the bathroom. At that moment, Fiona was in the hall, reading with unruffled focus.Say what you will—Heidi hers

“Dad, what I mean is, if we want Mr. Wilson to become the director of Nova University’s Sixth Affiliated Hospital, I can do my part to help push it along. I’m just worried he won’t be willing.”“By help, I mean I’ll be a bit proactive—do some quiet brokering.”Richard Anderson explained patiently.“Your son is the incoming director of the Nova City Health Bureau. He’ll be taking office soon, and he’s already acting in that capacity.”“The provincial office sent a letter asking for his recommendation on how to handle the Havencrest Medical Center land, didn’t they? He’ll have to weigh in on that.”“If, when the time comes, your son mentions Mr. Wilson to President Harris—says that it was Mr. Wilson’s intercession that allowed the land to go to Nova University—”“Then guess what? In the end, wouldn’t Nova University seriously consider Mr. Wilson as director of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital?”“At that point, even if Mr. Wilson isn’t keen, they’ll likely pin the top seat on him anyway.”T
