“Grandma will be angry if we don’t arrive at the courtyard soon,” Odessa said, intruding on his thoughts.

Riven glanced at the dragon-shaped carving one last time before turning away. Something about it bothered him deeply, perhaps, this was a clue to uncovering the cryptic words Damon had said to him.

Unfortunately, the time wasn’t right to investigate yet. Without another word, he followed Odessa towards the front courtyard.

Alyssa’s eyes immediately swept over Odessa as they arrived before stopping on Riven.

“And where do you think you both are going?” She sneered.

Odessa frowned, her lips parted slightly to respond but Alyssa cut in.

“Do you really think grandma will let you bring your disgrace of a husband to the banquet to further humiliate our family?”

“Alyssa, watch your words. He’s your brother-in-law, he is also part of this family,” Odessa replied.

“Brother in-law?” Alyssa said with a scoff. “For someone who doesn’t have a different pair of clothes? Wasn’t this the same clothes he wore yesterday, Odessa? Or are you blind to the fact that your so-called husband is not only penniless but lacks good clothing?”

Odessa’s face went red instantly.

She looked over at Riven and indeed, the clothes he was putting on was the same clothing he wore the day before, although they looked neat and well ironed.

“Riven, don’t you have new sets of clothing?” She asked, staring at him with surprise.

Riven shook his head slowly. “I had no time to get new clothes.”

This wasn’t entirely a lie.

Riven had left the Zhao’s mansion with no bags, and Orion had sent his clothes over with the gifts but now, one of his clothes was being worn by Elias.

His eyes settled on him, spotting the small silver embroidery had been stitched into the cuff of the sleeve.

A single word—R.W.

His eyes narrowed.

Damon had ordered the embroidery years ago to distinguish his clothing from the other disciples living within the Zhao territory.

Elias noticed Riven staring and his lips formed into a little smirk.

“What? Never seen a proper suit before?”

“Take it off,” Riven responded.

Elias and the others were taken aback.

“What did you just say?”

“That suit…” Riven began, his eyes sweeping over him. “…belongs to me.”

Alyssa bursted into laughter and the others joined in.

“The rumors are so true. You are really insane. The Zhao family sent clothes over and that’s what my brother is putting on and you claim that it is yours?”

“He’s so delusional,” one of the younger generation chimed in.

“Do you really think the Zhao family will send custom made suits to a beggar?" Elias questioned with a raised brow. “You can drop the act now. We all know you have no relations with the Zhao family.”

“Exactly! The Zhao family doesn’t associate with gutter trash!”

“A worthless punk trying to claim that our young master is putting on his clothes. What audacity!”

Riven’s face remained calm and expressionless despite their insults.

“I can understand you haven’t worn or seen such fine clothing before so I would leave it for you, for now,” he said blankly.

Elias’ face went red.

“How dare you?!”

It let out a violent cough-like sound.Several members of the Chen family turned around immediately alongside some of the guests still outside the hall. Alyssa wrinkled her face in disgust. The contrast was too difficult to ignore.“I was beginning to think that the car had broken down halfway here.”Luxury vehicles worth millions filled the parking area while the rusting car Odessa had driven looked as though it belonged in a dumb yard than there.Laughter quickly spread across the crowd.“It probably did,” one of the cousins snickered.“Several times.”More laughter followed. Odessa’s expression darkened as she stepped out of the car. They had driven here in the Mercedes she had bought with her money and they were still standing here making fun of her.Riven followed behind her calmly, completely indifferent to the ridicule. Riven glanced at him with cold eyes making him shudder visibly. “I don’t have to prove anything to anyone.”“Hehe,” Alyssa sneered. “You have no proof, do you? Odessa, get your lying and disgusting husband in check.”“What’s going on here?!” A high pitched voice came from behind them.Everyone turned around and at that moment, Old Lady Chen walked into the courtyard with Aurelius and the older generations of the Chen family.A servant hurried forward and whispered the situation into Old Lady Chen’s ear. The old woman’s expression instantly darkened.“Are you saying that this fool claims that Elias is putting on his clothes?”Laughter erupted throughout the courtyard.“What nonsense is this?” Aurelius questioned, staring at both his children.“Father, it’s true,” Alyssa responded. “I had asked why he wasn’t putting on a new pair of clothing and he decided to accuse Elias of wearing his clothes. I’m afraid we have

“Somehow,” Alyssa began, her eyes narrowing on Odessa with envy. “I wonder how you were able to manipulate the Zhao’s group into sending you gifts.”“Are you now agreeing that you have lied to us all about some secret admirer sending you gifts?” Odessa asked with a raised brow.“You..!” Alyssa’s face went red with embarrassment. Old Lady Chen shot her a look that kept her quiet. She glanced at the lead attendant with a smile. “Tell Mister Zhao that we will definitely honor his invitation.”The lead attendant gave a nod and they all watched as the convoy left the residence. The atmosphere turned stiff. Old Lady Chen walked into the residence with the older generation behind her. Her gaze lingered briefly on Riven. She wasn’t truly a fool. She knew the Zhao family had sent gifts because of him.Perhaps, it was just for formalities. She wouldn’t let herself get used to it after all this man didn’t look like he had special abilities. Alyssa sneered in Odessa’s face. “Don’t get used
