Chapter 1:
The Wei Estate. The chandelier lights reflected softly on the floor as the guests moved in circles with glasses of champagne in their hands, exchanging pleasantries beneath the sound of slow classical music. The entrance was heavily guarded by security personnels. Waiters moved in and out of the crowd with trays of drinks balanced on one hand. The crowd slowly hushed as the grand doors opened. The Wei family stepped into the hall. Cassian Wei, the head of the Wei’s family, walked at the center, his arms wrapped around his wife, Seraphina Wei. Beside them were their two children. Fourteen year old Riven Wei and Five year old Asia Wei, holding a doll. The moment they entered into the hall, countless eyes turned towards them filled with admiration and respect. Cassian calmly led his family towards the center of the hall, taking a glass of red wine from a waiter, he raised it slightly. “Good citizens of Kairen’s City,” he began smoothly, his voice loud and audible, echoing
Chapter 2:
The masked men moved immediately. One advanced towards Riven while another one restrained his hands behind him, forcing him to kneel violently onto the bloodstained marble floor. The one in front of him, grabbed his neck and slammed his face on the floor, hard enough to split the skin near his eyebrows. Blood seeped out of the wound and onto the floor. “Riven!” Asia’s cries become louder, tears streaming down her face as she stretches out her hands towards him. “Asia!” Riven yells back, struggling. He kicks and tries hard to claw his way out of the man’s grip. “Let me go!” All the children’s cries are ignored as the leader leads four of the other men away with him. “Hurry up men!” He ordered. Asia’s screams are heard from the courtyard as they depart. “ASIA!!!!” Riven screamed his sister’s name helplessly as he looks on. He takes a glance at the bodies of his parents lying in their pool of their cold blood, a few feet away from him and for the first time since
Chapter 3:
Ten years later, The Zhao’s Residence. Grunts and sparks fill the air simultaneously, with the sounds of fists colliding and metal swords clashing through the cold morning air. Riven Wei, now a far cry from the young 14 year old boy in the past, moves with controlled and calculated movements against Orion Zhao, who fights with equal intensity. The two of them move against each other while other trainees observe from a distance. “Still holding back?” Orion asked as their weapons collided. “You wish.” Riven twisted sideways just as Orion’s sword swept past his shoulders, inches away from striking him. CRACK! The weapon smashed into one of the training poles behind him, hard enough to splinter the pole apart. Several trainees stepped backwards immediately. Orion did not give Riven room to slow down. He pressed forward aggressively, his jaw tightening as he shifted from the structured Zhao’s techniques into something far more violent. His strikes became faster, unpredictable,
Chapter 4:
The atmosphere tenses as Riven’s eyes dart around with unspoken questions. He had never heard about the Ryugan before or dynasties but Damon had never lied to him before, only kept secrets away from him. “I know you have questions to ask. But know this, certain bloodlines throughout history possess instincts and perception that exceeds humans. Abilities tied to ancient conflicts hidden from the modern world.” He pauses, letting his words sink into Riven before continuing with a warning edge to his voice. “Awakening this abilities comes with problems, Riven. It’s both dangerous and irreversible because once these signs become visible, others connected to different bloodlines will eventually notice you. You must keep this hidden, only show it when it’s necessary. Control, my child, control.” Riven inhaled sharply, understanding the deep implications of Damon’s words. He could be hunted and… killed. “Is this why my parents were murdered?” Damon goes silent for a long time before h
Chapter 5:
“Senior Orion!” “Senior Orion!” Orion and Riven stop abruptly in their tracks, turning around to see a servant running towards them. He stops, clearly out of breath from trailing them to the training grounds. “What is it?” Orion asks, perplexed. “It’s… it’s Master Zhao—” Before he could complete his sentence, Orion dashes towards the main residence with Riven at his heels. As they enter into Damon’s chambers, they are caught off guard by Damon’s appearance. His face had lost color, white as sheets as he laid on the bed. Several servants stand by his bed side working alongside the doctor, medicinal herbs burning from the ancestral Zhao’s altar in the room to calm his mind. “Father,” Orion calls out, walking towards the bed with little efforts to appear composed. Riven walks behind him. Damon opens his eyes slowly and coughs slightly. “My sons.” “What’s wrong, father?” Concern etched in Orion’s face. Damon shook his head and wave Orion’s concerns dismissively. “Don’t look
Chapter 6:
In the Zhao’s ancestral grounds, incense smoke rises slowly in the air. The Zhao servants slowly lowered Damon’s coffin into the ground. It hits with a soft thud. Orion stands in front of the grave, inhaling a sharp breath. His face, cold and pale as he looks on. Riven stands close to him, his expression unreadable. Although he appeared calm, he felt a strange emptiness within him. Damon had been the one who understood the truth behind his family’s death as well as the Ryugan bloodline but he had left it up to him to find the truth out, and now the answers seems buried with him. Soon, the burial ends with the servants dispersing slowly. Orion and Riven are the only ones left standing in front of the freshly covered grave. “Father would have wanted us to be strong and that we will do,” he says after a long moment of silence, speaking rather to himself. Orion glances at Riven with a small smile. Riven could see through his mask. The Zhao's heir was breaking despite the strong res
Chapter 7:
“Elias, what are you doing here?”Elias chuckled darkly. “Why weren’t we invited to the wedding, cousin? But well, I came here to—”His gazes locked onto Riven, scanning him from head to toe before wrinkling his nose in disgust. “—to see who you have shamefully bonded yourself to. And alas, I am not disappointed! My cousin has married a mad man.”Elias’s loud laughter drew giggles from others in the courtroom as well his friends behind him. Odessa’s fists curled up by her sides as she tried to keep her cool. Riven had a blank and bored expression on.“Despite all the rich heirs chasing after you, you decided to settle for this. You have tarnished the Chen family’s image, Odessa and who knows whether this homeless looking man is actually the real Wei’s son or a fake!” Elias spat. “He isn’t even here with the Zhao’s heir or any of their family’s entourage!”Odessa’s lips pursed as she glanced at Riven beside her. She never thought about that but looking at Riven’s simple clothes she
Chapter 8:
Valentin’s throat tightened as the courtroom fell into uncomfortable silence. Sweat broke out on his skin under the weight of the crowd’s stares. “Everyone, it’s true!” A voice rang out. “Check the news.”Pings of notifications and gasps ran through the air as everyone checked the news, Odessa included. Her eyes widened slightly with surprise, shock etched on her face.News about Valentin Gao’s secret affair with a secret of the rival company had surfaced online alongside the story about his gambling addiction which had plunged the Gao family into numerous debts. Valentin’s face went pale, blood draining from his face as his eyes moved on the content of the news. The crowd soon glanced over at Riven who looked calm despite the situation around him. “How did he know?”That was the question on everybody’s lips but no one could try to question him now. What if he reveals their own secrets in the process?Elias’s expression darkened as he noticed that the situation was beginning to t
Chapter 9:
“You actually came back?”Elias’s mocking voice echoed through the courtyard of the Chen’s residence as soon as Odessa stepped out of the car.Several younger members of the Chen family stood behind him near the mansion entrance, their expressions filled with disdain as they glanced at Riven.Odessa’s expression immediately turned cold as she shut the car door. “Move aside, Elias.”Alyssa Chen laughed lightly as her eyes slowly swept over Riven’s clothes. “So this is the famous surviving heir of the Wei family?” She mocked. “The Zhao family must have made a mistake adopting him if he looks like this.”The others immediately burst into laughter.“Forget about his efforts to look like a Zhao’s family member,” One of them said with a scoff. “He doesn’t look like he can afford a decent suit.”“This is a stain to the Chen’s family legacy!”Elias folded his arms across his chest, a smug smile on his face.“At the very least, the Zhao family would have atleast sent someone to accompany him
Chapter 10:
Heavy silence followed after Old Lady Chen’s words. Odessa remained standing stiffly at the center, her eyes darting around too hurt to speak. She had studied day and night just to make the family proud of her. Graduated with honors, she worked at the family’s company as the receptionist. Endured all the insults and humiliation coupled with Elias and his father stealing her ideas and claiming it as theirs and now that she was finally going to get what she deserved. It was gone before she could even blink. “What do we do about this now, mother?” Aurelius asked, breaking the silence. “The position of the manager is still vacant. I would suggest that my son, Elias take over the role of the manager after all, he has all the right qualities to lead the company.” His eyes swept over the other members of the family, looking for anyone who would challenge his son but none could speak and he smiled victoriously. Old Lady Chen leaned forward, coughing slightly, her gaze turning towards Eli
