“Lin Xue,” Luo Yuyan muttered.

Lin Xue leaned closer.

“I haven’t seen Tan Su before. Is he from our sect?” Luo Yuyan asked.

Lin Xue straightened, adjusting his robe.

“He isn’t from here. He is from the Luoxia Sect,” he responded, his voice low.

Luo Yuyan tilted his head in amusement.

The Luoxia Sect is the second Eminent Sect in the South Region, he thought as he locked his gaze on Tan Su.

Suddenly, Luo Yuyan’s expression hardened.

“Then why is he here? Why wasn’t I informed about it?”

Lin Xue lowered himself beside Luo Yuyan, his gaze locked on the ground as though it held the answer.

“His mother is Xiao Lengyue, one of the merchants at the main market.”

Luo Yuyan glared at him for a second, sending shivers down Lin Xue’s spine.

“He is only here for a visit,” Lin Xue said quickly. “He asked to participate in the Meet, nothing more…”

“To show off,” Luo Yuyan cut in sharply.

Lin Xue swallowed hard.

“Maybe.”

On the platform, two guards carried Shang Li out. He was severely wounded.

A small scoff escaped Tan Su.

“Just one hit and he is already knocked out?”

Shen Wuyin stepped forward to Luo Yuyan’s side.

“You called for me?” He bowed.

Holding Shen Wuyin’s shoulder, Luo Yuyan whispered silent words into his ear.

Across the field, Mo Yueli watched them with a bitter scoff.

“I hope Father isn’t trying to play favourites?” she muttered under her breath.

Just then, Lin Xue took the stage.

“Next. Su Beichen and Yun Li.” His voice boomed across the valley.

With a swift gush of wind, Su Beichen ascended the platform.

“Oh, this will be fun,” he said smugly as he watched Shen Wuyin climb onto the platform slowly.

The moment Shen Wuyin took a stance opposite Su Beichen, Lin Xue announced,

“Begin!”

Within the blink of an eye, Su Beichen crossed the distance. Green flame rose from his skin, and a sickle materialized in his grip. The blade shone faintly under the moonlight.

SLASH!

The green flame engulfed the blade and shot forward.

Just as it was about to slice into Shen Wuyin, he leaned backward swiftly. The slash cut through the air above his head and crashed into a nearby tree. The tree split in half and crashed into the ground with a deafening thud.

Shen Wuyin straightened.

A smug smirk tugged at the corner of Luo Yuyan’s lips.

“Ufff,” Lin Xue snorted.

Shen Wuyin shoved his hands into his pockets and moved forward.

Su Beichen took a step back.

“I could have sworn my slash technique would hit him,” he muttered under his breath as he sized Shen Wuyin up.

“Isn’t he the guy the Sect Master welcomed into his palace earlier?”

“He dodged Su’s attack? That’s almost impossible.”

“What Dao level is he?”

The villagers murmured in disbelief, their gazes locked on Shen Wuyin.

Mo Yueli rolled her eyes.

“Show off,” she scoffed.

Shen Wuyin took another step forward.

“Let’s get this over with. My time is precious.” He shrugged.

Su Beichen stepped forward.

“Strike Multiplication.”

Instantly, the flame around his sword flickered for a second. Violet flames erupted from the blade, both colours twisting around it with a sharp click.

Su Beichen’s grip tightened around the hilt as though the spiritual energy exuding from the blade was too severe for him to handle.

Beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

He swung the sword in the air. Instead of one slash, multiple slashes shot from the blade at terrifying speed.

“Oh my.” Lin Xue’s lips parted.

Luo Yuyan’s brows drew together. The villagers erupted into unified gasps.

A qi barrier formed ten inches away from Shen Wuyin. Despite the slash’s speed, Shen Wuyin moved past it. A blur of green aura moved behind him.

“You think those slashes scare me?” He smirked.

Before Su Beichen could realize Shen Wuyin’s movement, Shen Wuyin drove his knee into his torso, sending Su Beichen into the air.

Just as he was about to hit the ground, Shen Wuyin released the Dao Stealing Orb.

“What is that?”

Mo Yueli’s expression faltered. Her eyes widened in disbelief.

“Dao Stealing Technique?”

Luo Yuyan leaned forward, his gaze locked on the orb.

“Interesting,” he remarked, stroking his chin.

“Lin Xue,” Shen Wuyin called out.

The orb hovered in the air.

Su Beichen slammed into the platform with a sickening crack, sending dust into the air.

Lin Xue stepped forward.

“Go on.”

“Is killing allowed?” Shen Wuyin asked, his gaze locked on Su Beichen.

A painful groan escaped Su. Blood covered his face, his lips parted in agony.

“No... No,” Lin Xue responded quickly.

Shen Wuyin shook his head.

“Oh. But I did like his multiple-slash technique,” he muttered under his breath.

He waved his hand once. The orb faded into the air.

With that, he jumped off the platform and stood in a corner.

All eyes were on him.

Even without stealing his technique, I can still make use of it, he thought.

Squeezing his eyes shut, the match replayed slowly in his mind.

A small smile pressed on his lips.

“It isn’t hard after all,” he muttered.

Lin Xue cleared his throat.

“Next. Mo Yueli and Xie Linger,” he announced.

Mo Yueli shifted her gaze to her father. He gave a curt nod.

She let out a sharp breath and got onto the stage.

Xie Linger bowed her head slightly.

“Princess, I would love to be friends with you,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion.

Mo Yueli lifted an eyebrow.

“Is this a trick or what?”

Xie Linger straightened and met her gaze.

“No. No. It’s no ploy.” She waved her hands in the air.

Lin Xue’s nose wrinkled.

“Ladies. It’s a duel, not a gushing contest,” he jeered.

Luo Yuyan cleared his throat. A gentle smile curved on his lips.

Mo Yueli glared at Xie Linger for a few seconds.

“If you manage to land a hit on me, we will be friends.”

Xie’s eyes lit up on hearing her words. A deep smile formed on her lips, revealing her dimples. She spun around in excitement.

Lin Xue dragged a hand down his face.
