“Father, please,” Chen Ruoxi’s voice broke into a plea. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
Mei, Qing, and Yun Li’s mother were forcefully dragged out of the house and thrown to their knees before Chen Guowei, Ruoxi’s father.
Yun Li’s mother winced as pain shot through her knees. She leaned backward, trembling as her vision began to blur.
“Ma…” Mei gasped. She crawled behind her mother and wrapped her arms around her, supporting her with her little figure.
Ruoxi knelt beside her father, gripping his leg as she pleaded, her voice cracking.
“Please… let them go… please, Aunty Wang Jun is terribly ill, please,” she cried.
Chen Guowei kicked her aside, slamming his foot into her stomach, hurling her into a nearby shrub.
Ruoxi’s face twisted in pain.
People gathered in large numbers, watching not with pity but with scorn and mockery.
“At least now our clan will be cleansed of the Li’s bad luck,” one of the onlookers said.
Beside Chen Guowei stood three well-built men. Their faces were expressionless, their eyes dark and cold.
Chen Guowei was a powerful weapon merchant in the Ashen Sky Clan. He had always detested Ruoxi’s association with Yun Li and his family. As a blue blood, Ruoxi ought not to have any association with low-lives like Yun Li.
“Since you refused to stay away from them, I will kill them before you disgrace me any further,” he said coldly.
He waved his hand.
One of his men stepped forward; a large fireball erupted from his palm.
He hurled it toward Yun Li’s family.
Just as it was about to land, Shen Wuyin reached them, his gaze darkened. He wrapped qi around his hand and slammed the fireball away. It struck nearby shrubs, erupting them into roaring flames.
“Yun?” his mother muttered under her breath.
“Brother!” Mei and Qing gasped, tears breaking from their eyes once again.
“How dare you?” Shen Wuyin growled.
He dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms around his mother, lifting her gently as though she were made of glass.
He moved toward the house.
“Stop right there!” Chen Guowei yelled, his eyes reddened with fury.
Shen Wuyin did not stop.
“Mei, Qing, come take care of Mother,” he said over his shoulder.
They rushed after him, their vision blurred with tears.
He laid her on her mat carefully, before she could utter a word, he turned and stormed out of the house.
“Burn them!” Chen Guowei ordered.
The men stepped forward again, fireballs forming above their palms.
Ruoxi staggered to her feet, clutching her stomach. She reached her father, her limbs trembling.
“Father, please… let them be,” she begged.
Chen Guowei turned sharply and struck her across the face.
The sound cracked through the air.
The onlookers gasped.
Ruoxi’s head snapped to the side with a slight crack, tears spilled from her eyes.
“I warned you, did I not?” Chen Guowei snapped. “Yet you still went ahead to disgrace me before Gu Yunfeng!”
Ruoxi turned back to him, her eyes red and shaking.
“I do not want to marry that old moron!” she shouted, her fingers curling into fists.
Chen Guowei stepped forward and slapped her again, leaving a clear imprint on her cheek.
“How dare you insult your soon to be husband, the leader of the Azure Peak Sect,” he said through gritted teeth.
Ruoxi’s jaw trembled from the impact.
“You will marry him whether you desire it or not,” he added coldly.
Gu Yunfeng had requested Ruoxi’s hand in marriage in exchange for granting Chen Guowei access to a position in the Azure Peak Sect market.
It was one of the largest markets in the region, filled with powerful traders and influential buyers.
Two nights ago, Chen Ruoxi had come to Yun Li’s house after fleeing her bridal ceremony.
She could not accept the marriage, especially not to Gu Yunfeng, a man in his mid-fifties with a bald head and a reputation she despised.
Just then, Shen Wuyin stepped out of the house.
His eyes burned with rage.
He walked toward Chen Guowei’s men.
Pew!!!
He activated the Blade Strike Technique he had taken from one of the ten cultivators.
The blades shot forward with terrifying speed, piercing through their barriers and into their necks.
He stepped forward calmly.
The men staggered back, clutching their necks as they tried desperately to pull the blades out. Blood gushed from the wounds.
“Blade Strike Technique?”
“How does he have that?”
The onlookers were stunned.
Ruoxi turned toward him.
“Yun!” she exclaimed.
Just as she was about to run to him, her father grabbed her sleeve and yanked her back.
“And where do you think you are going?” he said, tightening his grip around her wrist.
“I already warned you,” He grabbed a hand full of her hair.
Ruoxi whimpered, her hands flew to her head as he tightened his grip further.
He shifted his gaze to Shen Wuyin.
“You filthy brat, know your place,” he warned.
He dragged Ruoxi beside him as he made his way out.
“Yun!!!” Ruoxi cried.
Shen Wuyin stood still, his eyes locked on them.
“I cannot save her now,” he muttered.
The onlookers slowly dispersed, murmuring among themselves as they questioned how Shen Wuyin could use the Blade Strike Technique without a dantian and why Ruoxi would reject a man like Gu Yunfeng.
Shen Wuyin turned back and entered the house, crouching beside Yun Li’s mother.
“Are you hurt?” he asked, placing a hand over her neck.
“Yun Li… Ruox…”
Shen Wuyin stopped her mid-sentence.
“Get some rest.”
Mei pulled him aside, her eyes still filled with tears.
“Brother, where were you the past two days?” she asked.
“Two days ago?” Shen Wuyin replied, slightly taken aback.
“Yes, since you left.” Mei nodded.
Shen Wuyin shifted his gaze. “That means spent a full day in the southern Ocean.” He thought.
A loud bang on the door shifted the ambience of the room.
Yun Li's mother gasped, her heart skipped a beat.
“Useless Yun Li, get out here now!!!!” A loud thunderous voice shook the door.
