“Trust you?”

What greeted him instead was Karyl’s cold, distant gaze and a voice dripping with sarcasm:

“How long do you expect me to keep making a fool of myself for you? You ruined everything, and you still want me to believe in you?”

Reeds knew then—no matter what he said now, it wouldn’t make a difference. Karyl wouldn’t believe him.

The only thing he could do now was walk away from her.

Karyl watched Reeds' back as he walked away, feeling deeply embarrassed. She turned to Zayn and apologized sincerely.

"Mr. Zayn, please accept my sincerest apologies for my foolish husband's behavior. I hope you can forgive his rudeness." Karyl said earnestly, bowing her head slightly.

"It’s just a small matter. Let’s continue discussing our cooperation,"

Zayn replied graciously, his tone polite and composed.

His response made Karyl view him in a better light. Compared to Reeds' earlier irrational behavior, Zayn's courtesy and professionalism felt like a breath of fresh air.

Noticing the shift in her attitude, Zayn sensed an opportunity—and decided to make a move.

He grinned and reached out to embrace her. "You look tired, let me give you a hug."

Karyl quickly shoved him slightly away from her.

"Mr. Raymond. With all due respect, I'm still a married woman and I have a daughter at home."

However, after being rejected, Zayn wanted Karyl even more.

He could not wait to see how she would act on the bed after she drunk that glass of water with drugs.

"My apologies, Karyl." Zayn said, lifting his glass. "You must be thirsty. Take a sip."

Just as Karyl was about to touch her glass, her phone buzzed. It was from her company's executive.

"Excuse me, I have to take this call," Karyl said, picking up her phone and answering the call. "Hello, this had better be important."

"Ma'am, you wouldn't believe this. We've just received a $5 million investment from a subsidiary of the Higgins family," the executive exclaimed on the phone.

"What?" Karyl jumped to her feet, her eyes shaking from disbelief. "Did you just say the Higgins family invested in us? But how? We have no ties with the Higgins family. They're way out of our league."

"I'm equally confused, ma'am. It's a miracle."

Karyl couldn't believe her ears.

Five million dollars—that was exactly what Reeds had just said!

But… how was that possible? Reeds was just a useless househusband. All he knew was how to cook, clean, and take care of their child!

There's no way he could have pulled this off. This was the Higgins family.

They were one of the most renowned and powerful families in the world!

Meanwhile, Zayn had been listening to her call as well. It came as a massive shock to him when he heard the Higgins family invested $5 million in Karyl's company.

"What the…?" Zayn thought inwardly. "The Higgins family are the most powerful and wealthiest people in the world. Karly Rogers couldn't possibly be affiliated with them."

However, Zayn knew if he didn't do something about this quickly, his hold on Karyl would slip out of his hands.

Zayn tapped his hands on the table twice, a shitty grin appearing across his face. "I see you got the message. So what did you think of my influence?"

Karyl turned sharply to face Zayn. "You were behind this?"

Zayn preened his tie. "I sure did. Nobody knows this but I have great connections with the Higgins family. I convinced them to invest in your company though it was difficult to get them to find any interest in your company."

Karyl found this explanation to be reasonable. She believed Zayn's words.

This cleared her suspicion and doubt. After all, Reeds was an unemployed bum with no future. How could he secure such an investment when he's clearly a nobody?

A smile appeared on Karyl's face as she thanked him. "I'm truly grateful for this, Mr. Raymond. I promise I won't disappoint you."

Zayn didn't care about her gratitude. He wasn't satisfied. He needed her in his bed and quickly.

Faking a smile, he raised his glass again. "Let's make a toast to celebrate our new partnership in business."

Oblivious to the danger brewing in the air, Karyl raised up her drink which had the aphrodisiac dissolved in it.

An evil grin appeared on Zayn's face. Once she takes a sip, it will be over for Karyl.

She will belong to him tonight.

Reeds returned to the hospital later that afternoon. Today was the day Karyl would be discharged, and he intended to be the one to take her home. The sliding doors of the hospital hissed open, the sterile scent of antiseptic filling his lungs as he strode through the lobby.Nurses glanced his way, but he ignored them and made his way to the elevator. As the elevator began its ascent, Reeds leaned back against the wall, hands casually slipping into the pockets of his denim jeans. He thought about the road ahead—about mending what had been broken in his marriage. For Seraphina’s sake, he was going to let everything from yesterday go. None of it mattered now. Not when their daughter needed her parents. Not when they had a chance to start anew. His only concern at this moment was bringing Karyl home. He would take her to meet Seraphina and somehow, they would fix what was left of their marriage. They had to. Not just for their daughter, but for themselves.Reeds smiled faintly, the co

The Next morning, at the late hours of 11.am, Zayn stirred and groaned as he sat up and yawned. He had slept well last night after his uncle assured him of destroying Reeds. He wondered if Lord Donovan had worked out a plan already. He could hardly wait for his revenge on Reeds. Before he step down the bed, a soft knock came at the door."Master Zayn," a maid called, her voice nervous and tensed. "You have an urgent call from the office. They say it cannot wait." Zayn scowled, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "At this hour? Tell them to—" Another knock, more insistent. "They said it’s critical, sir." Grumbling, Zayn swung his legs off the bed and sauntered to the phone mounted on the dresser. He snatched the receiver and barked into it. "This better be fucking important. Calling me at this time of the hour. Have you no sense of timing?"The moment the line connected, Zayn's world collapsed. "Zayn! What the hell is going on?" a furious voice shouted. It was from his

Reeds could only stare at the woman as she stepped into the light. She had flawless ebony skin, as flawless as Snow. Her bright brown eyes were sharp and intelligent, framed by long lashes. Her full lips were red and curled into a professional smile. She wore a snow-white shoulder-length wig that glowed under the moonlight above. Her figure was accentuated by the blue female suit she wore, tailored to perfection, hugging her wide hips elegantly. In one hand, she held a clipboard, while the other rested at her side as she stood a few feet from Reeds. "My name is Melanie Carter. I’ll be taking over Mr. Prescott’s duties effective immediately," she introduced herself. Reeds blinked. Her voice carried a slight British undertone. He turned sharply to Archibald. "When did you do this?" Archibald clasped his hands behind his back, his expression calm and unreadable. "Melanie was one of Prescott’s most capable subordinates. Given his… sudden dismissal, it was only logical to promote h

Lord Donovan’s countenance darkened, his eyes glinting with cold fury. "How dare he," his lips curled into a scowl as he growled. "Who does this Reeds think he is? To lay hand on my nephew, does he have a death wish?"Zayn swallowed hard, his voice trembling with rage and pain. "Uncle, he—he claims to be the heir to the Higgins family. But that can’t be true, can it? The Higgins family hasn’t even announced an heir yet!"Lord Donovan released Zayn’s chin and straightened. He stroked his salt-and-pepper beard thoughtfully, his gaze distant. After a long silence, he murmured, "It’s possible. I’m a core member of the Higgins family, and even I don’t know who the heir is! If Reeds really were the heir, I would’ve known!"Zayn’s eyes widened in shock. "What? You don't know who the heir is? How is that possible?""Because the family’s matriarch has kept it a closely guarded secret—even from me. Only a handful of her most trusted confidants know the truth. She’s never fully trusted me, des

The moment Reeds was gone, Evelyn turned to Karyl. "I still can't believe Zayn would do something like this to you. Let's sue him.""We can't, mother," Karyl muttered, lowering her head. "Zayn has friends and allies in high places. Moreover, he's my company's major shareholder. I'm afraid after what transpired today, my company would be no more.""I hate to admit it but you're right, Karyl," Hubert said, stroking his chin. "If you plan to go up against someone like Zayn, you need someone equally wealthy."At that very moment, an idea sparked inside Karyl's brain. She glanced sharply at Chris who stood up by the side, watching her with a modest smile on his face. "Chris," she began, her eyes pleading. "This might come out wrong but I have no other choice. My husband is completely useless to me. You're the only person I can turn to right now."Chris kept his smile fixed, eyeing her closely. "What do you want, Karyl?"Karyl took a deep breath. "The Thompson family has powers and resourc
