"Julian!" Lucia sobbed, her voice trembling with a mixture of raw maternal agony and terror. "Julian, run! Please, my baby, turn around and run! Don't listen to him! Don't let him hurt you!"

Seeing her son—the boy who had disappeared eleven years ago into the dark abyss of war, now returned as a broad-shouldered man—ignited an overwhelming wave of filial love within her chest. She didn't care about the weapon pointed at her head.

She cared only that her son was alive, breathing, and walking into an executioner's trap for her sake.

Julian stood frozen in the doorway, rain dripping from his dark hair onto his broad shoulders.

Though he looked completely expressionless, his heart was being torn apart.

For eleven years, he had survived the deadliest battlefields on earth, facing down armies without a single flutter in his breath.

But watching his mother—the woman who had bled, slaved, and starved to raise him after his father’s murder—bound like an animal with a gun to her head, pulled at every fiber of his soul.

Every muscle in his body burned to tear Chadwick limb from limb, but the terrifying reality of the hair-trigger revolver kept his lethal instincts tightly leashed.

A single twitch of Chadwick’s sweaty finger would end Lucia’s life before Julian could cross the room.

Two of Chadwick’s bodyguards, each stood at his side with their guns aimed at Julian’s chest.

"I know who you are, boy." Chadwick screamed, his voice cracking under the intense pressure. "You're Nicholas Bennett's worthless brat. You think because you survived eleven years in the military you can come back to Sunspire City and ruin me? My daughter Donna is dying. Her heart is failing by the hour. Your sister Aurora's heart is a flawless, one-in-a-million medical match, and I am taking it tonight! Her life for your mother's—that is the deal!"

Lucia cried out in anguish. "No! Never. Julian, do not trade your sister. Kill me instead. Let him kill me."

"Silence, old hag!" Chadwick roared, jamming the heavy barrel deeper into Lucia’s skin, causing her to wince in pain. His wild eyes locked onto Julian. "Decide right now, Bennett! Give me Aurora, or watch your mother’s head explode!"

Julian slowly raised both hands to chest height, spreading his palms open in a clear gesture of surrender. He forced the lethal fire in his eyes to dim, masking his deadly aura behind a veil of utter defeat.

"Put the gun down, Chadwick," Julian said, his voice dropping into a low, flat voice in complete submission. "You win. Just don't hurt my mother."

Chadwick blinked, stunned by the sudden way he Julian gave in. A triumphant smirk slowly spread across the politician's bloated face.

He let out a loud, raspy laugh that echoed off the high ceiling. "Hah! I knew it! Just like your pathetic, spineless father. When push comes to shove, you Bennett men are soft. You're weak."

"My phone is in my pocket," Julian said quietly, keeping his hands elevated. "I will call my men right now and order them to bring Aurora directly to the mansion. I will hand her over to your medical team myself. Just keep the weapon away from my mother's head."

"Do it!" Chadwick demanded, his confidence soaring as he shifted the revolver's barrel an inch away from Lucia's temple, though keeping it trained on her skull.

"Call them now! And you two—" Chadwick barked at his two bodyguards, "get the heavy titanium handcuffs from the desk drawer. Chain his hands behind his back before he tries anything clever."

Julian slowly reached into his trouser pocket, pulling out his personal mobile phone. He tapped the screen with deliberate slowness, placing the call on speakerphone so Chadwick could hear every word.

"Bring her up," Julian commanded flatly into the speaker. "Bring Aurora to the main study of Lincoln Manor immediately. It's over."

"Wise choice, boy," Chadwick sneered, his eyes gleaming with greedy victory.

The lead bodyguard stepped forward, pulling a set of heavy, thick steel handcuffs and a length of solid iron chain from the desk. He approached Julian with an arrogant stride, believing the broken young man had completely given up.

"Hands behind your back," the bodyguard grunted, reaching out with his left hand to grab Julian’s wrist, while his partner stepped up beside him with his submachine gun lowered slightly, losing his guard.

That fraction of a second—the precise moment Chadwick's guards dropped their defensive vigilance to chain him—was the exact moment the War Lord needed.

The instant the bodyguard’s fingers brushed Julian’s skin, Julian struck.

In a movement so impossibly fast, Julian’s left hand vanished from sight. His fingers clutched around the guard’s outstretched wrist, twisting it backward with terrifying, explosive force.

CRACK!

The guard’s wrist bones snapped through his skin. Before the man could scream, Julian yanked his heavy body forward, using him as a human shield just as Chadwick panicked and pulled his trigger.

BANG!

The silver revolver roared, the heavy bullet slamming directly into the chest of the disarmed bodyguard.

Before the second guard could react or raise his gun, Julian drove a brutal, bone-shattering elbow directly into the wounded guard's sternum, launching his heavy body sideways.

The flying weight crashed straight into the second guard, sending both men crashing onto the polished floor with broken ribs and crushed limbs.

Chadwick shrieked in absolute horror, wildly waving his smoking gun. "Die, you monster!"

Julian closed the distance like an apparition.

Before Chadwick could press the trigger a second time, Julian caught Chadwick’s wrist mid-air. He squeezed his grip until the man's bones groaned under the pressure, forcing the barrel up toward the ceiling.

BANG!

The second shot shattered the massive crystal chandelier above, sending a shower of sparkling glass cascading down like frozen rain.

Julian swiftly twisted Chadwick's arm downward, snapping his forearm completely with a loud SNAP. Chadwick let out an ear-piercing shriek of agony, dropping the silver revolver as he stumbled backward, clutching his broken, disfigured arm against his chest.

"My arm. You broke my arm!" Chadwick wailed, tears and sweat pouring down his face as he backed away toward his massive mahogany desk. "You crazy bastard! You'll pay for this!"

Desperate to escape the living nightmare in front of him, Chadwick slammed his uninjured elbow down onto a concealed red emergency button beneath the rim of his desk.

A heavy, blast-proof steel security shutter dropped from the ceiling behind the desk, while a concealed reinforced panic panel opened along the back wall.

Chadwick scrambled wildly into the dark, armored escape passage, his hysterical, muffled voice echoing through an overhead intercom speaker as the heavy panel slammed shut and locked magnetically.

"You're dead, Bennett!" Chadwick screamed frantically through the speaker. "You think you saved her? You're trapped in my house, and you'll never leave Sunspire City alive."

Julian didn't give the fleeing politician a second thought.

His main focus was the woman tied to the chair.

He spun around, drew a sleek blade from his belt with a swift motion, and dropped to his knees in front of his mother. With two lightning-fast slashes, he cut the thick hemp ropes binding Lucia's wrists and ankles.

"Julian." Lucia wept uncontrollably, throwing her arms around her son’s neck and pulling him tight against her chest.

Her body shook with violent sobs as she buried her face in his shoulder. "Oh, my baby! My brave boy. You came back for me."

Julian wrapped his broad arms around her, holding her fragile frame against his chest with immense gentleness, shielding her from the cold wind and shattered glass. The terrifying War Lord who had just broken men in seconds was gone; in his place stood a son devoted entirely to his mother's warmth.

"I'm here, Mom," Julian whispered softly, his voice thick with deep filial love. "I'm right here. I will never let anyone hurt you again. I promise you."

"Aurora..." Lucia gasped, pulling back slightly to search his face, her hands trembling as she stroked his cheeks. "Julian, did he take her? Where is your sister?"

"She is safe, Mom," Julian assured her gently, wiping the tears and dirt from her face. "She is sitting in a bulletproof vehicle outside, guarded by my most trusted men. She is completely unharmed."

Lucia let out a breath she felt she had been holding for eleven years, resting her forehead against his chest as relief washed over her.

However, their brief moment of sanctuary was violently shattered.

WAAAAAAIL!

The night air of the estate was suddenly torn apart by the deafening, shrieking chorus of dozens of high-pitched police sirens.

A massive fleet of Sunspire City Police cruisers swarmed the estate grounds, blocking off every escape route.

STOMP! STOMP!

Heavy, aggressive combat boots thundered up the grand marble staircase of the mansion.

Down in the courtyard, a harsh, static-filled megaphone barked through the pouring rain.

"Julian Bennett! This is the Sunspire City Police Department. The entire estate is surrounded. Put your hands on your head and step away from the hostages immediately. You are under arrest for attempted murder and domestic terrorism. You have five seconds to comply before we open fire."

Lucia gasped in horror, clutching Julian's shirt as the doors of the study were kicked wide open.
