From that day forward, the head servant began to teach them how to use Mana.

Using Mana is the basic thing for all Dragonkins, but it is something big and unique for ordinary humans.

They would wake up in the morning, and the head servant would serve them food. Afterwards, it would be training Mana from morning until night.

It was a boring subject for the six-year-old Quinn.

Mana itself does not give that much power. It is basically to enhance the body. But then, before the era of Pathways and Dragonkins, Mana users dominated the world.

But Quinn did not just relax because using Mana was something he could do in his dreams. Instead, he even worked harder. There was a technique he found out years later, but it was already too late for him.

It is the technique of forcing Mana into the bones to make them stronger. Adults could not use it because their bones had already formed, but for a kid like Quinn, it was the best way to spend his time.

While others were forcing their bodies to produce Mana and enhance their physical attributes, Quinn was forcing it into his own bones.

A painful process that would leave him soaking in sweat and sometimes make his nose bleed. It left him turning in his bed, but the thought of squeezing his father’s neck and the idea of ruling the House kept him going.

It might seem like a little gain, but when two powerful equals meet, then it is the little things like that that would decide how the fight would go.

Quinn also felt satisfaction that he did not feel in his past life because he dominated the whole dorm. There were no more bosses, as he was the single one that stood above them.

It was petty, but Quinn did not care. What is the use of a second chance at life if he will not do what he did not do in his past one?

He did not let it get to his head, though. He knew just how much of a frog in the well he was.

"Today will be your last day in this dorm and your last food here. I must commend you all. You have more potential than the last batch," the head servant said, his eyes turning to Quinn as he said the last word.

The head servant waved his hand as he continued. "Today, you will be given meat, and you will bathe, scrubbed clean, as you will be meeting the House Head and..."

Suddenly, the head servant jerked back as he stared in Quinn’s direction, as if he had been stung by something. Just a second ago, he felt an intense wave of bloodlust. But surely he was mistaken?

Quinn’s hand was clenched tight, and his jaws were gritted. He would be meeting his murderer? The one that killed him? His blood seemed to have been set on fire, and he wanted nothing more than to stand up and inflict his revenge right back.

But he calmed himself.

If he should behave rashly, then his death would be even more useless than the last time.

He took a deep breath.

The head servant continued. "You will be performing the first rite that will prepare for the second rite, where you will be bound with a Dragon or Dragonkin."

The Dragon pathway has the Dragon and all the Dragonkin, like the Drake, Dragonet, and such.

The head servant shook his head. "I will give you a warning. Once the Blood rite begins, I advise you to immediately know your place, or else..."

He did not say any more.

The thing was, the dorm that Quinn was in was not the only dorm for Arthur’s bastards. There are other dorms, and all of them will be competing together.

Even the two children that are legitimate will join them as well.

In the last Blood rite, Quinn did not reach the Blood Tree.

The rite is just that all of them would be thrown into the wilderness that is in the Drakemont’s territory, and the first set of people to get to the Blood Tree at the center and eat from the blood fruits would pass to learn of the Dragon Pathway.

The Blood fruits are herbal fruits that were said to be planted by a Blood Dragon once. The effects of eating them would make the soul space expand.

The blood fruit is one of the remaining precious treasures of the Drakemont. It is also one of the ways the House is financing itself. As such, the fruits on the tree cannot even be enough for twenty people out of about two hundred bastards.

The Blood rite is called so because everyone would turn against each other to reach the fruits.

After giving his explanation, and after they ate, the head servant led them towards the bathing areas, where they were scrubbed clean by servants and then given robes of red and white with the Dragon wings of the Drakemont on them.

After that, they were led to the main hall, where they were to wait for the arrival of the family Head.

They were given short blades that would fit into their small hands, real swords. All their training must be put to use.

Quinn stared at the sword. He cannot kill Arthur now.

But taking revenge is not his only goal. He also wanted to rule and build House Drakemont to stand beside and higher than all the other Great Houses in the Empire.

So for that, he must use Arthur until he was powerful enough to kill him. That means he must draw his attention.

One thing that Arthur and all the other members of the House have in common is the idea that strength rules all.

Quinn must draw and hold Arthur’s attention. He must become a being that stands above all his children. He must be made the heir.

Using the rules of the House that he learned since his past life, Quinn turned to the head servant. "Since the day breaks, it is already the start of the Blood rite, right?"

The head servant suddenly felt uneasy, but he still answered. "Yes. In the past, we began to attack each other once day breaks."

Quinn nodded, and then he bowed to the head servant. "Thank you."

Then he drew his sword.

Quinn was happy. Very much happy! And it was because of a simple yet strange fact. In the past few months since he entered the Great Dungeon, a lot of people had tried to kill him, and although he had killed them back—most of them anyway—this was the first time he would be striking back immediately after someone plotted against him in the Great Dungeon.Quinn had missed his own pettiness, so he smiled happily at the leader of the Mistwalkers. "Three third circle Magus. Might be tricky, but you lot don't have the power of the head supervisor.""What nonsense are you speaking?" The leader with the bow growled, his eyes dark green like his arrows. "Surrender yourself, and we might forgive you for pointing a weapon at us."Quinn looked at him with amusement. "Is that so? You'll forgive me? But why should I surrender? I can smell the fear in you. This is far from what you expected for your hunter team. It seems you have grown comfortable and lost what it means to fight."The leader stiffen

"Get ready!" Mayan shouted. Now that he was staring intently, he could see that the thing blasting toward them was humanoid, too much so even, and it perplexed him a great deal. And that speed! It was closing in too fast for his liking, and the only reason he was still calm was because he was sure his shield would hold. That shield was one of his greatest joys, as he had spent a hefty sum to create it, and it could even hold a number of his own attacks. With that thought in mind, Mayan raised his hands, and green light condensed around them, solidifying into a bow and an arrow. "Let's see what type of monster you are. Must be the one that killed my scout and dragged the body here."He put the arrow to the bow and pulled, stretching it past his ears as it began to emit a low groan of vibration. The arrow glowed from soft green to almost blinding. He grinned. "Now we wait. Once the monster bounces off the shield."But surprisingly, as the monster got within thirty feet, it dramatically

Raaj led them back. The return journey was much faster than when they were going deeper into the maze. They didn't run, but Raaj increased his speed so much it looked like jogging, even more so when they heard a loud screeching sound far in the distance behind them."Why did the Mistwalker cause such commotion?" Quinn was confused about the reason why they would do such a thing in the first place, as it didn't seem like the most sensible thing to do at all."Most likely to see the level of strength the Longleg Spiders are since the bait failed. I said it earlier. There are other monsters in the maze, and sometimes they fight the spiders."The amount the Mother Queen sent would be used to determine their current strength and how far the team should go."Quinn sighed. He just wanted to hunt his monsters and get the hell out of the territory. Why did people always try to get in his way? He knew he had already decided that he wouldn't fight them, but he was dangerously close to changing h

Yutaka couldn't close his mouth as he watched the blind guy drag someone that was dressed entirely in black towards them. Obviously, he was a type of combat Magus himself, but he was weak. Even then, he didn't see him move at all.Yutaka swallowed as a theory formed in his mind. ...the blind guy must have a powerful enchanted object or artifact!..."Well? Do you know him?"Lady Slave removed the cloth covering the man's face, showing them what he looked like.Yutaka studied the average face and frowned a little. "This is a scout from the Mistwalker group. He's a second circle Magus and his scouting powers are impressive. You... we are going to get into trouble for killing him."Lady Slave looked at Red Eyes Slave and he shrugged. "They already target us. If we leave the nest alive, they are going to come after us anyway. Either way, we are still going to clash with the Mistwalker."Lady Slave groaned and her eyes darkened. "Right. Might as well start. I'm getting tired of this place."

Yutaka soon came back, and he was even paler than before as he stared at them with wide eyes. He told them what he found out.Everything was because of a large hunting team, the Mistwalker. They were the ones that wanted to hunt the Longleg Spiders in a very large capacity, and they needed bait to know the recent strength of the nest. And as it turned out, Quinn and Lady Slave had walked in like goats stretching out their necks for slaughter. The gang had promptly set them up.Quinn was annoyed. It seemed as if people were always trying to kill him everywhere he went, and it was getting tiring, but this time he really could not blame them, because they genuinely thought he was weak."One thing I still don't understand is what the deal with the Longleg Spiders is. Are they that valuable?" Quinn asked."Yes. Their venom is precious. It is used in the making of hundreds of poison and healing potions. Also, the venom that can be extracted from each spider is no more than three drops. That

The guides are more polite than the gang. Than the Gloomspire gang. They even offered them tea and cake, but Lady Slave humbly declined."So you want a guide not only for hunting in Gloomspire but to cross the mountains into Umbracrypt City? You should know that with the war, there's a high shortage of guides, and that means our prices have gone up."If you want a quality guide, it's going to cost you a lot. A real lot."From the manager's tone, Quinn could deduce what the man meant. Simply put, Lady Slave and Red Eyes Slave did not look like people that could afford a high-quality guide.Although they wore quality clothes, they themselves looked as if they had been dragged through the mud half their lives, and the manager had seen enough hunters to smell fakes from miles away. Most times, hunters formed into large groups to hunt monsters. That was one of the sure ways to guarantee that everyone at least had a chance at survival. But sometimes, real deals appeared that hunted alone be
