Chapter Five

Eliza’s silky voice drew the attention of some guests, as she ran towards Selena.

“Are you okay?” Eliza inquired.

“Yes, I am fine, it's just a little bruise on my arms.” Selena rose, brushing aside an invisible bruise and feigning a wince.

“How dare you push Selena down?” Eliza snarled with contempt dripping from her eyes.

“I…”

“Granny, Leo got upset with me for mentioning to you that he was cheating, so he yelled at me and pushed me down.” Selena wailed, not giving a damn about her mascara.

“You did what?”

Alarmed at the sudden change of story and attitude from Selena. Leo took a step back, fighting hard to conceal the pains in his eyes.

“I didn't do any…”

“Granny,” Selena whined, cutting Leo off.

“He said I am a maid and look like one!”

“How dare you! You scumbag!” Eliza yelled, with her palm designing Leo’s cheek with a slap.

The resounding slap drew the audience’s attention towards them, and the media team began taking a video.

“I didn't do any of the things Selena said.” Leo tried to defend.

“You called me a maid, didn't you?” Selena accused, daring Leo to deny it.

“I didn't do it!” He rebuffed.

“So you are saying that Selena is lying? She is cooking up the damn humiliation? I saw you with my two eyes pushing her to the floor where you belonged!” 

Eliza poked her index finger at Leo who kept grazing the spot where he was slapped with disbelief.

“Granny Eliza, you’ve got to believe me, I didn't do that!”

“Which means I am just bluffing! I am just blind to the incident I worked in on?” 

Seeing the crowd gathered around her, Eliza lifted the glass of wine up in the air with mockery.

“This piece of trash, my grand son -in-law dared accuse me of lying against him. Can you all imagine that? Total disrespect!”

“Exactly! Total disrespect! How could Leo accuse Madam Eliza of lying!” One of the guests muttered.

“He is supposed to grovel at his feet and beg for mercy after humiliating the heiress to Gregory’s billionaire companies!” Another chipped in with unconcealable disgust.

“This is the position others are playing for, but Leo is wasting it! He is such an ingrate!”

“He is such a jerk!”

“What a waste of his handsomeness!” A lady added with a sly smile.

“I will never patronize that K Blink Hangup anymore. I can't imagine someone like Leo serving me,” the man grimaced.

“The imagination is enough to make me puke! Eew!”

Their words reached Leo’s ear unfiltered, making him sick with mortification.

This was worse than the usual dishes of insults hurled at him.

The corner of Selena’s lips curled in a victorious smirk. Of course in the eyes of the public, she was the “pure” wife. 

The wife who was submissive, kind, despite the supposed ‘marital trauma’ she was going through, and she intended playing her cards well to keep being seen in that light by the public.

She had a business reputation to protect, she can't afford to ruin it due to some homeless dog, in the name of a husband.

“I didn't call you a maid, Selena...”

Leo’s statements were cut off as he felt his tuxedo drenched with something wet and liquid.

Horrified, he glanced down to encounter a reddish stain, but when he glazed up, he met the stern look of Eliza.

“Well, not my fault.” Eliza shrugged with a jeer. “I forgot my wine on your body.”

“You are an invisible man! You can't blame Madame Eliza for seeing you as nothing other than a toilet!” 

Someone from the crowd jeered, earning a boisterous laughter from the audience.

“Granny, I think we are hurting Leo. It's too much for him at once. We should let it slide,” Selena's sulky voice full of empathy slipped a bit, revealing her disdain.

“I am sure he is remorseful for his actions now.”

“He cheated on you, Selena!” Eliza protested blindly.

“I cheated? Isn't that the opposite…”

“Ah! Granny,” Selena interrupted, preventing Leo from revealing the truth.

The media was watching, and covering everything. 

Any slightest news portraying her in the wrong light could ruin her reputation for a long time.

“It's your birthday, remember. We can't have Leo ruined your party.” 

Glancing back at Leo, Selena added. “Leo is my husband, and I love him despite him cheating on me.”

The last part came out louder than the rest of her statement. Leo knew Selena was up playing her victim cards in public.

His eyes blinked back the tears threatening to fall from his tear duct.

Damn it! What just happened? He was emotionally assaulted! Humiliated! Accused of the crime he never committed!

Yet, no one dared to defend him! No one dared to speak up for him! To crown it up! He was powerless!

“I am only forgiving you because of Selena!” Eliza glared a silent warning to Leo.

A man in a corporate suit worked down to Eliza, leaned towards her and whispered something to her ears. She nodded and stepped aside for the man.

“I am here to officially announce the termination of Leo's employment with K Blink Hangup.”

 Mr. Anke, the CEO of K Blink Hangup stopped, waiting for a second as the weight of his words got assimilated by everyone.

Satisfied with the happiness on the faces of both his customers, and partners, his eyes reverted back to Leo.

“Meanwhile Leo, you will receive an official letter from us tomorrow together with your outstanding wage.”

“Why? I was diligent in my services!”

“No, you are always careless!” A voice shouted from the crowd.

Another added, “If Mr. Anke didn't terminate your employment, I would have stopped patronizing.”

Leo's heart sank with despair. His job as a waiter was the only thing he derived his happiness from. How could it be taken from him?

“I am so sorry, Leo. It's all my fault that you lost your job! I shouldn't have reported the fact that you were cheating on me to Granny Eliza.” Selena wailed.

What?

“Go down on your knees and apologize to Selena!” Eliza ordered.
