Chapter Three

"I can't give you a divorce tomorrow, as that seems to be impossible. I have got to seek permission from my grandmother before giving you a divorce. And my grandmother's birthday is tomorrow."

Leo shoved her out of his sight as he dragged his luggage out of the toxic room.

"Contact me anytime you get the permission."

Without another word, Leo exited the building with his luggage, saying goodbye to bad things.

                                                       *** D - Day ***

Loud sound blazing from the music box was an indication to the ongoing party which took place on the fourth floor, D estate. 

Men of influence graced the occasion as it was the birthday of a powerful, affluent woman with fame. 

Selena's grandmother, Eliza.

The red and blue light dimmed the room, giving it a clublike atmosphere. People moved their body to the rhythmic sound of music.

Moving across the room, Selena shielded herself to avoid the hyperactive people dancing crazily to the music. She had one destination in mind - meeting Eliza.

The beautiful corset she wore fitted her luscious body. Despite being a grandmother, Eliza was agile and smart. Her eyes searched the crowd for something.

"Granny," Selena called, diverting her attention from the guest who was having quite a good time.

"Thank God you are here." The sound of relief escaped her mouth. 

"Where is Leo? Call him to help me clean out this dirt from the floor." Eliza commanded, directing her gaze to the floor with disgust.

It was the maid's responsibility, but Eliza couldn't afford to let him slip off her.

"Well, Granny. The thing is," Selena began amidst the loud music. 

"Leo isn't here."

"What?" 

She shifted her gaze to Selena. The thought of Leo's absence at her birthday party irked her more than she would admit.

"How dared he?" Her nose flared at her question. 

Not wishing to draw unnecessary attention to herself, Selena slowly guided Eliza out of the room to somewhere cozy and quiet.

"Call him this instance! Inform him to get his ass down here." She ordered, pacing furiously. 

Plans on how to castigate Leo began growing in her mind. 

Selena remained mute at her spot. Her Rolex watch clicked loudly, oblivious to the conflicting emotions. This was the right moment to utilize the opportunity. A time to act the victim.

Without warning, 

"Leo wants a divorce." She sobbed, taking Eliza by surprise. 

Seeing that she had the attention of Eliza, Selena broke into a hissing fit. 

"For the past few months, my home has known no peace. I constantly cooked for Leo, took care of the house, but Leo never saw it. He kept complaining about my inability to handle the house as a wife. He stopped eating my food. And sometimes whenever I asked him what was wrong, he would reply by roughly shoving me out of his way."

Selena stopped speaking to wipe the tears clouding her vision.

"Of course, I didn't inform you." She stole a glance at Eliza, satisfied by the reaction on Eliza's face. Selena mentally smirked. 

"I couldn't do that. He was the man I chose to marry. The one I loved. So, I kept quiet. I shouldered every pain, humiliation and the grievances Leo caused me."

"No, my dear. That was wrong of you." Eliza pacified, moving closer towards her.

"I couldn't take it anymore. And so, one day," Selena wiped a tear from beneath her eyelid. She gazed innocently at the sky.

"I found out that Leo was cheating on me with different ladies. He cheated on me!" 

She broke down as Eliza engulfed her in a warm hug.

"Easy child, the bastard wasn't worth your precious tears."

"Granny, am I such a bad person?"

"No dear. You are not bad. The bastard just didn't realize he had a precious gem." 

That pig headed jerk was going to pay dearly. Eliza mentally vowed.

"I confronted him, Granny, and he tossed the divorce on me. He requested for a divorce."

From her spot, Darcy listened attentively. 

She smiled victoriously. 

Patiently waiting, Darcy watched Eliza walked out of Selena minute after disengaging the hug. 

The huge grin widely spread across her face as she approached her.

"I heard you were not able to keep Leo." she taunted, jerking Selena from her moment of mental celebration over her act.

Darcy was Selena's cousin and had always detested Selena's beauty and never for once had she made an effort to conceal the hatred which shimmered on a daily basis.

"Bitch, you were eavesdropping on my conversation? How shameful!" Selena spatted, unfazed by her earlier taunt.

"Of course, I won't spend my precious time listening to some useless person's private life that wasn't worth one cent, but my sharp ears picked up certain things that gave out the ugly news." 

The insult penetrated deep into Selena's skin. The fire in her eyes sparked instantly. 

"Oh, that was a great baloney. You should try something else. And yeah, Leo sought a divorce and so?"

"That's great! At least," she moved around Selena with a smirk. 

"He realized you are nothing but a rotten bitch. It's so unfortunate that with your pancake," she gestured towards Selena's makeup. 

"You couldn't even keep your own husband."

Whore! Who did Darcy think she was?

“Slut, how many men have chosen you?" 

The question jarred a spot in Darcy's mind.

"Enough. Besides, I am surely going after Leo. You think you can handle that without having a cardiac arrest?" 

"That's if he will want you." Advancing towards her, Selena held her gaze. 

"And if you are really who he wants," Selena looked her up disdainfully. Her hatred was visible across her face. 

"Because Leo is Gay."

"Selena?"

Leo's voice called, gobsmacked at his spot.
