I laid down on the cold floor after turning off the useless tv. Empty-minded and with no goal in life or solution to my current predicament, I got up and went to my room.
I stayed in bed and put my pillow over my head. My stomach rumbled but I ignored it. I only had enough money for my last meal and I planned to spend it tonight.
Going out under broad daylight was something I despised because everyone who knew about my situation would always mock me in one way or the other after they see me.
I stayed in bed throughout the rest of the day until I noticed the dark of the night before I rose from the bed.
The bedroom door was jammed again and so I had to hit it several times with my shoulder until it opened. I counted the last amount of money in my pocket and decided that I would buy bread with it as it was the only meaningful thing I could afford.
I walked five blocks from my house to the cemetery first. I stood before the tombs of my parents and sobbed.
"It is both your faults that my life is this way. Why did you leave me?!" I said to them as I stared at the carving of their names on the tombstones.
"I hate you two!" I screamed and fell to my knees. After some minutes more passed, I got a hold of myself and got up on my feet.
"Sorry. I am very sorry... Please forgive me?" I said. "It's just that things have been very difficult for me lately. I could not afford flowers for tonight so I hope you two don't mind." I said.
"Sometimes I wonder why the car accident that happened three years ago didn't take me with you two," I added.
I forced a smile and then started to leave. "Help! Please help me! Somebody! Anybody! Please!" I heard a female's voice scream.
It sounded as though she was in great pain. I ignored the cry and continued to walk away from the cemetery but it seemed to me that the lady in question had spotted me.
"Sir! Sir, please help my granddad!" I heard her cry out and I knew I had to answer after I looked around and there was no one else she could have been calling.
I turned in the direction from which the voice was coming and I saw her kneeling on the ground. There was a body on the floor which I could not see clearly.
I went to the lady and saw that the person on the floor was an old man. Both the lady and old man were richly dressed and I could tell how high-ranking they were.
"What happened to him?" I asked her. "I don't know." she cried. I bent down and checked the man, "I see... Does he suffer from osteoarthritis? I asked her.
"Yes. How..."
"Do you have the needles for acupuncture with you?" I asked her.
"Yes. We bought them before coming here," she replied. "Give them to me," I said to her. "I cannot just trust you with those. How am I sure you know what you are doing?!" she said as she moved her handbag away from me.
"You can trust me enough to call me over but not to help your granddad?!" I exclaimed. "Look, do you want him saved or not?" I asked.
The lady was still hesitating and so I got up. "Your problem, not mine," I said to her as I went on my way.
"Wait!" she shouted. I stopped in my tracks. "Please help..." she said to me.
I returned to her and she gave me the needles, "You better know what you are doing." she said, worriedly.
I ignored the lady and performed acupuncture on the man, at all the right points, "My dad taught me this before as he was once a doctor. Still take him to the hospital, just in case." I said to the lady as her grandfather started to get himself.
"Thank you so much sir," she said. I got up and turned to leave but held my foot back. I turned to look at her and she got up as well.
The lady smiled at me, "You have not told me your name." she said to me. "I am not important," I said. She was about to say something else but I raised my index finger in front of her, making her stay quiet and I left that place.
I had helped her grandfather just as she wanted me to. My personal life was none of her business.
I walked for a long time before I finally reached the bakery and went in to buy bread. Luckily for me, I made it before they could close for the day but unfortunately, life seemed to have something different planned for me.
The two people I hated the most and tried my best to avoid in whatever place I found myself were right there in the bakery I just entered. They were not just in the bakery but also working in the bakery. I knew that because they had the uniform with the bakery's name on it.
I was about to leave but it was too late for me as one of them had just spotted me and made sure I knew he did.
"Well-well-well. If it isn't the representative of poverty Trevor." Gus said to me. His words drew the attention of his partner and assistant torturer of my life, Parker.
"Fancy seeing you here Trevor," Parker said to me.
"Fancy?! Hahaha! His presence here only degraded the bakery." Gus said to Parker. They both burst into laughter. "Let me tell you something, Trevor. The ladies love hot men but not the kind with empty pockets." Gus said.
I pretended not to hear them and went ahead to look through the showcases with freshly baked bread in them.
"Hey!" Gus yelled. I faked not hearing him and continued with my search. "Hey! It's you I'm talking to Trevor!" Gus yelled. I turned and looked at him, "Why are you wasting our time?" he asked me. That was a stupid question to ask.
"I am a customer here. Can you two at least give me that respect?" I replied.
They both burst into laughter again and did not stop laughing until tears filled their eyes.
"Yeah, that," Parker said to me, wiping his tears away with the back of his hand.
"This guy is funny. Seriously funny." Gus said to Parker, nudging Parker with his elbow, and then he turned to me, "Of course, you are the customer. And therefore we must guide you. I was only trying to tell you that you are looking at the wrong set of bread." Gus said to me.
"What do you mean by that? You cannot choose what I want for me." I said to Gus. Parker cleared his throat and I looked over at him. Parker then pointed below the bread and I saw the price tags.
The prices were higher than usual and there was no way I could afford any of them with the amount I had with me.
I was about to leave the bakery but they called me back, "Wait, Trevor. There is still one you can afford. Parker, go in and get him one." Gus said and signaled Parker.

Clarissa arrived at the given address and stepped out of her car. She examined the appearance of the building with her gaze and went ahead to knock on the front door. The door was opened by the same doctor she was looking for and on recognizing Clarissa himself, the doctor made to shut the door as quickly as possible but Clarissa shoved him back. "So you did the entire thing on purpose?" Clarissa asked the doctor. The doctor parted his lips but no words came out. "Forget it. I have no time for this argument. Where is the result of the DNA test?" Clarissa asked the doctor. "I don't have it with me. I left it in the hospital." the doctor replied. "You son of a... " Clarissa's voice trailed off. "Get into my car right now!" Clarissa ordered. "I need those results right now!" she yelled. "There is no need for me to come with you. Do you want the result? I make a call to get it to you." the doctor replied. "Make it quick," Clarissa said to the doctor, right after she gave him a sh

[The next morning]Clarissa woke up in my bed while I was still asleep. She left my room and went into hers. After taking her bath and getting ready, she dressed up and left the mansion. The only thing that Clarissa had on her mind was the DNA test and she couldn't wait to get it and show it to the twins for them to do the comparison. Clarissa arrived at the hospital and headed straight for the doctor's office. She tried opening the door but it was locked. A nurse was passing by at that moment and Clarissa stopped the nurse to make inquiries. "Good morning ma'am." the nurse greeted. Clarissa ignored the greeting from the nurse and went straight to the point, "where is the doctor that usually stays in this office?" Clarissa asked the nurse. "Today is his day off so he's not going to come here for work until the next day." the nurse answered Clarissa. "Do you know where he lives?" Clarissa asked the nurse. "I am sorry ma'am but this hospital follows strict rules. Such which inclu

"Oh, it makes a whole lot of difference because I do not want that to happen," Clarissa replied to Dean. "Hm. Hand what are you planning to do about it? Stop us? How exactly do you want to start that out?" Dean mocked Clarissa. "I can give you what you long for the most," Clarissa said to Dean."And what is that?" Loki asked Clarissa. "You may not know it but we are getting a good reward from Zane, that is after we succeed in what we were sent to do. Nothing you say could be any better." Loki added. "And I am sure that what Zane offered was not money. It's something else which I am yet to find out." Clarissa replied Loki. "You better keep your nose out of our business Clarissa. You know very well what we are capable of." Dean warned Clarissa. "Uuu, I'm so scared. Someone come and help me." Clarissa said to Dean in a mocking tone of voice. "I didn't come here to discuss what Zane offered the both of you but what I can give you two," Clarissa said. "Just go straight to the point

I caught the fist and kicked the strange person's second hand when I felt it coming at me. The stranger shouted in pain and I dragged him out of the darkness only to find that it was Zane. "What the...! I thought I told you to stay away from me and my wife?! So you do not know what a restriction order is?!" I shouted. "Come out with my wife!" I shouted to the men I knew were still in the darkness. Two men stepped out, holding Clarissa and one of them had her mouth covered. "Run now that you have the chance to do so," I told those two men. The two men looked at Zane and then at each other. After a second or two, they took to their heels. I punched Zane square in the face and he fell to the ground. He sat up with a bleeding nose and blood leaving the corners of his lips. Zane looked at me angrily but he did and said nothing. After Zane was finally gone, Clarissa jumped into my arms. "Thank you so much!" Clarissa said to me as she cried on my chest. I patted her on the back. "Ever
