The green glass bottle left the hunter’s hand, spinning through the air straight toward Ifunanya’s heels. One drop of that liquid could paralyze a high-level hunter in seconds.
Chidi moved before the bottle could hit the stone ground. He lunged forward, his new stats making his body lighter and faster than ever. He swung the black shaft of the Dragon Spear like a bat.
The silver edge of the spear struck the green bottle mid-air. The glass shattered instantly, and the green liquid splashed backward, raining directly over the hunter who had thrown it.
The man fell to his knees, gasping for air as his legs turned completely stiff. "My legs! I cannot move my legs!"
Ifunanya spun around at the sound, her dark eyes wide. She saw the paralyzed hunter and the shattered green glass on the pavement. She realized immediately what had almost happened. She looked at Chidi, her eyes scanning his simple black mask and the magnificent black spear in his hands. She did not say thank you. She simply nodded once, accepting his help without any unnecessary words.
"Who are you?" the lead hunter demanded, his face turning red with rage as he looked at Chidi. "This is Iron Fang business! Get out of the way if you want to live!"
Chidi did not answer. He shifted his grip on the Dragon Spear, his eyes tracking the red dots that his system projected onto the remaining four hunters.
[Target: Iron Fang Leader. Weakness: Left knee joint. His heavy armor makes his movements slow.]
[Target: Rogue Hunter. Weakness: Exposed neck line during a right swing.]
"Kill them both!" the leader ordered, rushing toward Ifunanya with his heavy iron mace raised high.
The other three hunters charged at Chidi, drawing their steel swords.
Chidi stood his ground until the first hunter was just two feet away. The man swung his sword in a wide path toward Chidi's chest. Thanks to the Sovereign Gaze, the attack looked incredibly slow. Chidi easily stepped to the left, letting the sword pass through empty air. He brought the blunt end of the Dragon Spear down hard against the hunter's right wrist.
A loud snap echoed through the street. The hunter dropped his sword, clutching his broken wrist as he stumbled backward.
Before the second attacker could react, Chidi spun the spear, using the flat side of the blade to strike the man directly across the chin. The force of the blow lifted the hunter off his feet, sending him crashing into a pile of wooden crates by the wall.
Meanwhile, Ifunanya was already finishing her own fight. The ground around her was covered in jagged spikes of ice. The Iron Fang leader was trapped, his legs frozen solid to the concrete. She stood before him, her hand raised as a sharp icicle hovered right over his forehead.
"Call off your men," Ifunanya said, her voice completely calm but incredibly cold. "Or I will end this right now.
The leader looked at the icicle, then at his two defeated men groaning on the ground. His confidence vanished. "Stop! We are leaving! Just melt the ice!"
Ifunanya lowered her hand, and the ice around his legs cracked apart. The leader scrambled backward, helping his injured men stand. They dragged the paralyzed rogue away, running down the street without looking back.
The street became quiet again. Chidi lowered his spear, making sure his mask was secure.
Ifunanya walked over to him. She looked closely at the Dragon Spear, her eyes showing a hint of curiosity. "That is a serious weapon. I have never seen a spear like that in this city. Who are you?
"Just a solo hunter," Chidi said, keeping his voice low and deep so she would not recognize him as the scavenger boy from earlier.
Ifunanya crossed her arms. "The Iron Fang Guild does not stop easily. They want the dungeon map because my family is losing its grip on the western sectors. They will come back with more men. You helped me, which means you are on their list now too."
"I am not afraid of them," Chidi said.
"Good," Ifunanya said. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small black token with a silver crest shape on it. She tossed it to him, and Chidi caught it easily. "If you need a guild that doesn't bow to Tunde’s family or the Iron Fangs, bring that token to the Cross estate. I respect people who act instead of talking.
She turned around and walked away, her dark coat moving in the wind. She did not ask for his name, and she did not offer hers, but Chidi already knew who she was.
[System Notification: You have earned the respect of Ifunanya Cross. Reputation with the Cross Family increased by 20 points.]
Chidi smiled under his mask. Having a connection to an ancient family like the Cross clan would be incredibly useful later. He placed the silver token into his pocket next to the sleeping Obi.
He walked into the registration building to officially register his new hunter status under a hidden name. Ten minutes later, he walked out with a new solo license. He was ready to clear dungeons alone and build his wealth.
He decided to go home first to check on his family and drop off the extra gold he had gathered from the boss room.
Chidi walked down the narrow, broken streets of the poor district, arriving at the small, old apartment building where he lived. He climbed the stairs and reached his door. But before he could turn the handle, he heard loud voices coming from inside.
A heavy fist struck the wood from the inside, and a familiar, arrogant laugh filled the hallway.
Chidi’s body went rigid. He knew that laugh anywhere. It was Tunde.
Chidi pushed the door open quietly, stepping into the small living room.
Tunde was standing there, surrounded by three large bodyguards. Next to him stood Amina, her red robes pristine. She was holding a legal document in her hand. Chidi’s mother was sitting on the old sofa, her hands shaking as she wept quietly.
Amina looked up as the door opened. When she saw Chidi standing there wearing a black mask and holding a spear, she did not recognize him at all. She thought he was just a random mercenary.
"Who are you?" Tunde demanded, stepping forward with a sneer. "This is private property. Get out.
Chidi did not remove his mask. He looked past Tunde, his eyes landing on his crying mother, then turned his gaze back to Amina.
"What are you doing here?" Chidi asked, his voice shaking with a deep, contained rage.
Amina held up the paper, her expression cold and completely remorseless. "Chidi Vance is dead. He owed our guild a massive debt for the expensive potions and equipment he lost in the dungeon today. Since he is gone, his family must pay. As the vice-leader of this sector, I am seizing this apartment. His family has twenty-four hours to leave the premises.

Falling Skies
A deafening crash shattered the ceiling above them as tons of stone and twisted steel came pouring down. In the Upper Sectors, the ruling families built their underground bunkers beneath thick layers of spell-treated rock to survive full-scale dungeon raids, but no building could withstand an S-Rank strike from the surface.Ifunanya did not flinch as dust filled the room. She tapped her wrist console twice, bringing up a glowing green map of the facility's deep emergency tunnels. While Marcus Vance's guards scrambled around in total panic, trying to dodge falling concrete blocks, Ifunanya had already identified three different exit routes that her father built for high-level survival scenarios. She had memorized these secret paths months ago, knowing that loyalty to any single guild was a foolish gamble in a world run by cutthroat hunters."The main ceiling is giving way," Ifunanya said, her voice cutting through the noise with absolute calm. Trapped in the Steel Vault
The heavy steel security doors locked into place, cutting off the secondary emergency exits. In the Upper Sectors, the wealthy families controlled every square inch of high-grade military tech. Ifunanya knew these underground research labs were built with spell-proof steel to keep dungeon specimens from escaping. By using her father's master access code to seal the room, she had turned this laboratory into an airtight tomb where no outside guild reinforcements could enter.Marcus Vance raised his glowing energy sword, his face twisting as he looked at the locked heavy doors, then back at Ifunanya. "Are you insane, girl? You just trapped yourself in this room with my elite squad. Do you really think this scavenger boy can save you from ten level-30 guards?"Ifunanya leaned back against the central control station, her hands resting casually over the system keypads. Her face showed no fear, only a cold, calculated stare that made Marcus's guards hesitate."I do not need him to save me,
The True Gate
The golden light snapped shut, and Chidi fell hard onto a floor made of smooth black stone. "Let me back out! My mother is still in that bunker!"The system did not answer his voice. Instead, the giant screen shifted, showing a live camera feed that made Chidi's body go completely rigid. The screen was displaying the exact room he had just left. Through the glass window, he saw his mother locked inside the metal security capsule, her terrified eyes looking around the c

The True Cost of Betrayal
The heat from the commander's iron gauntlets turned the gravel beneath Chidi’s boots into tiny bits of red glass. Ifunanya did not flinch, even though her own driver had just stepped out from behind the enemy lines, holding a heavy leather bag filled with golden coins. In the high-tier sectors, loyalty was just a commodity with a clear price tag. The rich families taught their children that everyone could be bought; the only variable was the amount of money required to make them turn. Ifunanya looked at her driver, her face remaining completely still. She did not display any sadness or shock, only a cold calculation that showed she had already written the man off as dead."You gave them the carriage schedule," Ifunanya said. Her voice carried no anger, only a chilling indifference. "The Cross family paid for your daughter's high-tier school tuition. I suppose the Iron Fangs offered you enough to buy a small estate in the outer ring instead. The driver looked down at the ground, refusi
