A deep explosion rocked the underground floor, throwing Chidi against the steel wall as the emergency lights turned bright red. Through the thick glass windows of the main lab, a massive black shape tore through the silver metal vault doors, its claws cutting the steel like soft paper.

[Warning! Level 60 Rift Shadow-Hound has escaped containment.]

[Threat Level: Fatal. Recommended action: Immediate retreat.]

Chidi grabbed his mother’s arm, pulling her behind a heavy stone pillar. Her body shook so much she could barely stand, and she pressed her face against his shoulder. Chidi felt a sharp stab of pain in his chest. His mother spent her entire life hiding from the system, working until her hands bled just to keep him out of the low-tier mines. He promised himself she would never live in fear again, yet here she was, trapped in a death zone because of his choices.

"Ifunanya!" Chidi looked toward the center of the room.

Ifunanya did not run toward the elevator like the other scientists. She stood near the main console, her face completely calm as she typed a series of fast codes into the keypads. In the upper sectors, the high-tier families treated captured rift monsters like simple research tools, trying to steal their skills to make their own children stronger. 

Ifunanya knew exactly how reckless her father was, which was why she kept a personal override code for the safety shields. She did not care about the monster; she only cared about using this accident to force her father into a corner.

"Get back, Ifunanya!" Chief Inspector Cross ran toward her, his purple armor glowing as he pulled out a long blue energy blade. "My personal guards can handle this. We just need to wait for the sector defense force!"

"They will not make it in time, Father," Ifunanya replied, her voice cold as she pressed the final button. A heavy glass wall slid down from the ceiling, completely sealing her father and his ten elite guards inside the testing zone with the massive beast. "You wanted to see what Chidi can do. Now is your chance."

"What are you doing?" the chief inspector shouted through the glass, his face turning pale as the shadow-hound bit the head off his first guard. "Open this door right now!"

Ifunanya turned her back to the glass, looking straight at Chidi. "The glass will hold for exactly three minutes. If you want my family’s full protection, you need to prove your worth right now. Kill that beast, and my father will give your mother a permanent residency card for the Inner Core. If you run, the guards outside will shoot you as a fugitive."

Chidi stared at her, realizing just how dangerous this woman truly was. She trapped her own father with a killer monster just to force a deal. She was using him, but she also provided the exact thing he needed most: safety for his mother.

"Put her in the security pod behind the desk," Chidi said, stepping forward as he gripped the Dragon Spear. "If a single scratch touches her, I will pierce your heart next."

Ifunanya nodded, pulling Chidi’s mother toward the heavy metal capsule near the back wall. "She is safe here. Go.

Chidi activated his internal system panel, his eyes fixing on the massive beast through the glass. The hound had already crushed four level-30 guards, its red eyes glowing in the flashing emergency lights.

Chidi took a deep breath. His own level was far below this monster, but the Dragon Spear felt light in his hands. He ran toward the glass partition, sliding through the small maintenance hatch that Ifunanya opened for him.

The moment his boots hit the blood-stained floor of the testing chamber, the shadow-hound turned its massive head toward him. It let out a deep roar that made the metal floor vibrate. The beast jumped, its front claws aimed straight at Chidi's chest.

"Move, boy!" the chief inspector shouted, swinging his energy blade to block the monster's tail. "Your low level cannot take a single hit!

Chidi did not move away. He waited until the beast was only two meters away, its sharp teeth inches from his face.

[Passive Skill Activated: Dragon Blood Suppression. Target’s attack power reduced by 20 percent.]

The hound’s movement slowed down slightly as a heavy weight seemed to press against its body. Chidi used that split second to drop to one knee, tilting the tip of the Dragon Spear upward.

"Soul Pierce," Chidi muttered.

The spear tip flashed with a bright, blinding crimson light. The active skill allowed him to ignore the physical shield completely. The silver point cut through the beast's outer energy layer without any resistance, sinking deep into the soft skin beneath its left jaw.

The shadow-hound let out a sharp cry of pain as the crimson light traveled up the shaft of the spear, burning the inside of the monster’s throat. A massive wave of black fluid spilled onto the floor as the beast crashed heavily onto its side, its massive legs twitching before it became completely still.

Chidi stood up, pulling his spear out of the dead monster. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he wiped the dark fluid from his arm. The chief inspector stared at him, his mouth open in complete shock. A level-15 novice just killed an S-rank specimen with a single strike.

Suddenly, the computer monitors on the wall flashed again, but the text was not red. It was a bright, golden color that Chidi had never seen before.

[Alert! The death of the S-Rank specimen has triggered a high-frequency resonance.]

[The Sovereign Spear has detected its original creator.]

[Hidden Protocol Activated: Forced Teleportation to the True Gate.]

Before Chidi could take a single step toward the security pod where his mother was waiting, the floor beneath his feet turned into a circle of golden light.

"Chidi!" Ifunanya ran toward the glass hatch, her face losing its calm look for the very first time.

But it was too late. The golden light shot upward, covering Chidi completely, and the entire underground room vanished from his sight.
