When the men entered the office, Victor’s brow arched. He had to admit, he had no idea how many people had been contacted to help resolve the hacking issue.

And now, as these unfamiliar men stood confidently before him, he wasn’t sure who had called them or what their roles were.

“Who are you?” Victor asked, directing the question to the man with glossy, dark hair and the air of someone used to being in charge.

Abrill glanced at the group, then quickly turned back to the monitor. ‘Mr. O’Connor seems like he knows what he’s doing,’ she thought, mentally bracing herself. ‘Maybe I should just listen to him for now…’

The man with the glossy hair gave a subtle nod, his brows arching slightly. “I’m Dante. Dante Cruz.”

Abrill’s fingers froze above the keyboard.

No way.

She turned sharply to face him, her mouth suddenly dry. “You’re Dante Cruz?”

Dante’s lips curled into a half-smirk. “Depends. How many Dantes do you know?”

Her heart pounded. There was no mistaking it. Dante Cruz, the most revered hacker in the city, if not the country. His digital feats were the stuff of underground legend: breaking into impossible systems, vanishing without a trace, and leaving only his name behind like a phantom signature.

To Abrill, he was more than just famous, he was a figure of inspiration.

If Sean had once caught her attention with his technique, Dante shattered all comparison. Her admiration for him was instantaneous and overwhelming.

“You need to take over this,” she said breathlessly. “You’re one of the best! I’ve read everything about you. Everything.”

Victor raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by Abrill’s sudden outburst. He shifted his gaze between her and Dante, trying to piece together what was going on.

Dante chuckled and gave her a lazy salute. “Flattered. But I’m here to work. Let’s see what kind of mess we’ve got.”

Abrill couldn’t look away. She had been laser-focused on Sean’s method earlier, but now? Now she was completely thrown. She was standing in the presence of someone she had only read about, admired from afar.

Sean’s earlier instructions faded from her mind, at this point, she barely remembered them.

“Just handle it, please. Whatever you need, let me know,” she said quickly, almost too eagerly.

Dante nodded and moved toward the workstation. Abrill immediately stepped aside to give him space.

Victor’s expression hardened. “Abrill, what are you doing?” he said sharply. “You know it’s improper to hand over a task already assigned to someone else.”

Abrill shook her head, brushing off his concern. “It’s fine. Mr. Cruz is one of the top cybersecurity experts in the city. If anyone can fix this, it’s him.”

Dante slid into the chair like he owned the place. He gestured for Greg to move, then motioned for one of his team members to take Greg’s position beside him.

He scanned the screen with practiced ease. His fingers hovered over the keyboard, moving more out of habit than necessity as he absorbed the data in front of him.

“Who’s doing this?” he muttered, his tone casual but laced with irritation. He wasn’t speaking to anyone in particular, yet everyone heard it.

Victor frowned slightly. He wasn’t sure if Dante was referring to the hacker or to Sean, who had been handling the issue up to now.

“Just take care of it,” Abrill urged, not wanting Sean’s name brought up. Right now, she didn’t want anything or anyone distracting Dante.

But Dante wasn’t paying attention to her. His smirk returned as he clicked through several tabs, then leaned back in the chair with an incredulous expression. “This is amateur work. No real hacker would leave this kind of trail. Hell, who’s in charge of this mess? Who let it get this bad?”

He gestured lazily at the screen. “Whoever thought they could just walk in and fix this without noticing these red flags is an idiot. I’ll clean it up. But this should’ve been caught long ago.”

Without waiting for a response, Dante reached toward the power controls to shut down the system, only for Victor to suddenly step forward and grab his wrist.

“What are you doing?” Victor asked, his grip firm.

Dante’s gaze sharpened. “What’s your problem?” he snapped, the easygoing tone vanishing. “Do you have something to say, Mr. Stroud?”

Victor slowly released him, sighing in frustration. “I already have someone handling this. He specifically said not to restart the system. He warned us that the machines should be kept running.”

Dante scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Whoever said that is a fool.”

He didn’t wait for clarification.

“That’s terrible advice. Restarting is the only way to flush out embedded corruption. I’ve been doing this longer than most people in this room have had email addresses. Trust me, I know what I’m doing.” He leaned forward with a confident glint in his eye. “If you want this fixed, let me work my way.”

Victor hesitated. Abrill watched with wide, hopeful eyes. Greg remained silent, uncertain.

Dante took the silence as permission. He began flipping switches, initiating a full system reboot.

Victor opened his mouth to object, but it was too late.

Dante pressed the final key, and the screens went dark.

He looked over his shoulder at Victor, calm and cocky. “Relax. You’ll be thanking me when this is all sorted out.”

Greg cast a concerned glance at Abrill, but she didn’t respond. She was still watching Dante like a starstruck fan.

Then—

A harsh alarm blared.

Across the screen, red text appeared:

ERROR: SYSTEM CORRUPTION DETECTED. FIREWALL BREACHED. BACKUP OVERRIDE DISABLED.

The servers began to flash red. The room’s lights flickered and dimmed.

Abrill gasped. “What’s happening?”

Victor rushed forward. “What did you do?”

Dante sat up straight, his confident smirk evaporating. His eyes darted across the rapidly cascading error logs.

“This... this can’t be right,” he murmured. “This isn’t possible.”

Greg leaned in, eyes wide. “The system’s crashing. And the backup...it’s—”

“It’s gone,” Abrill whispered, staring at the screen. “It’s all gone.”

The day of the international summit arrived with an electric tension that vibrated through the coastal estate. This wasn't a standard corporate mixer; it was a gathering of the world’s guarded elite, protected by layers of private security that made government summits look amateur.Rosalind stepped from her town car, her breath hitching at the sheer scale of the operation. Abrill had been right. This was a different world entirely.Inside the ballroom, the whispers died as the lights dimmed. A hush fell over the crowd; a voice boomed over the speakers, announcing the formal return of the primary heir to the O’Connor lineage. When the doors at the top of the grand staircase swung open, Rosalind felt the ground fall away. There he was.It was Sean, but not the man who had quietly folded her laundry or waited in the car during her board meetings. This man wore a suit of midnight silk that seemed to absorb the light, his posture radiating a cold, untouchable power. Beside him, Liana

"I don't know what you're implying, Abrill. Sean was my husband for years. Whatever game he’s playing now, whatever money he's stumbled into—""Stumbled?" Abrill interrupted, a cold, mocking laugh escaping her lips. "Do you really still believe this was luck? Look at me, Rosalind. Stop playing the part of the jilted socialite. You’ve known the truth since the night the police took Chloe away."Rosalind’s breath hitched. She opened her mouth to protest, but the words died in her throat."I saw your face at the station," Abrill continued, leaning forward until they were mere inches apart. "I saw the way you looked at those reports when they told you that car, that stolen Koenigsegg, wasn't just his.”“It was registered to a trust that makes your family’s entire net worth look like pocket change. You realized then, didn't you? That the man you treated like a servant, the man you let your assistant harass, and your mother belittle, wasn't just an 'ordinary man.'"Rosalind looked away, he

On the screen was a digital version of Rosalind’s invitation, intercepted by his security team before it could even reach the gates. Sean swiped it into the trash with a dismissive flick of his thumb."People are looking for you, Sean," Liana noted. "The woman from the gala. Your ex-wife."Sean looked at the dark obsidian ring on his finger, then at the heavy signet ring he had just placed on his pinky: the O'Connor family crest."Let them look," Sean said, his voice like ice. "That Sean died the day the divorce papers were signed. The man they’re looking for no longer exists."The plane began its descent, banking toward a private peninsula that didn't appear on civilian maps. At the tip of the land sat a fortress of stone and glass: the O'Connor ancestral home. Below, a line of twenty black sedans sat waiting, their engines humming in perfect unison."Are you ready, Liana O'Connor?" Sean asked, standing and offering his arm.Liana took it, her chin held high. "I was born for this,

The board members of the O'Connor trusts were frantic, the media was spinning wild theories about the "Ghost Heir," and Rosalind Springfield had sent dozens of letters that remained unopened in a mounting pile at the estate’s gate.Sean didn't care. He had spent a decade being what everyone else needed him to be, a useless husband, a secret investor, a shadow protector. Now, he was finally being what he needed to be for himself. He spent every morning in the physical therapy wing with Liana, counting her reps, steadying her when she stumbled, and teaching her how to hold a pen again."Okay, that's enough for today," Sean said, reaching out to catch her as she completed her final step. He swung her up effortlessly, carrying her to a nearby bench."You're such a helicopter brother," Liana teased, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Nova says I'm ahead of schedule. She says I'll be running by the summer.""Nova says a lot of things," Sean chuckled, handing her a bottle of water."Bu

The air in the laboratory was so thin it felt as though the sheer weight of the silence had sucked out the oxygen. Sean stood behind the reinforced glass of the observation deck, his knuckles white as he gripped the railing. Below him, Liana lay encased in the glass stabilization pod, the silver serum finally beginning its final, high-velocity infusion into her central nervous system."Initiating the final sequence," Nova whispered, her fingers dancing across the holographic interface. "Neuro-link at 98%... 99%... Synchronization complete."Suddenly, the room erupted in chaos. The monitors, which had been humming with steady, rhythmic pulses, began to shriek. The heavy thrum of the helicopter blades had barely ceased when Sean leaped from the transport. His feet hit the pavement of the private hospital wing with a desperate urgency. Unbothered by the cameras, the curious whispers of the night staff, or the state of his wrinkled, sweat-stained shirt, he pushed forward.Through the corridors, he moved like a ghost reclaiming his life, his heart hammering against his ribs as he reached the high-security suite at the end of the hall.He threw the doors open. The room was bathed in the soft, rhythmic glow of life-support monitors. And there, propped up against the pillows, was Liana. For the first time in months, her eyes were open, clear, bright, and alert. When they landed on Sean, a small, radiant smile broke across her face."Sean?" Her voice was a fragile rasp, yet it carried the weight of a thousand memories. "You look... you look like you’ve been in a war. How have you been? Did you finally stop letting people boss you around?"Sean
