Chapter 8: House Inspection

Chapter 8

Daniel and Ava had been walking for about an hour, making inquiries about where they could possibly get a house to buy, but no one seemed to know of any houses for sale.

Daniel wiped sweat from his forehead, looking exhausted. He turned and looked at Ava, concerned in his voice. “I'm sorry for stressing you this much. I didn't expect it was going to take this long."

He apologized, feeling sorry for Ava.

Ava smiled faintly. “It's not your fault. Besides, I volunteered to follow you. I wasn't compelled," she replied softly.

Daniel swallowed. “I don't know why it's hard to find a house around.”

Just then, Ava slapped her forehead lightly and exclaimed. “My bad!"

"What's wrong?" Daniel asked with a raised eyebrow.

Ava smiled lightly. "I forgot I have the number of a house agent. He was the one who helped my family get a house one time like that.”

"In that case, we'll have to contact him then to know if there's any available house that one can purchase.”

“Yeah, sure.”

Ava brought out her phone and dialed the agent's number. The phone rang and ended without a response. Ava tried again, but the same result.

Then, she sighed frustratedly. "He's not picking,” she complained, her expression changing.

"Maybe he isn't close to his phone at the moment,” Daniel answered before pitching an offer. "How about we go to a cafè across the street to grab something while waiting for him to return the call?”

As for Daniel, he wasn't really hungry; however, he knew Ava must be, so he thought it'd be nice to get her something.

Ava hesitated, then agreed. "Alright, then.”

Just as Daniel had generously offered, Daniel and Ava found themselves sitting opposite each other in a coffee shop. The waiter approached their table and handed the menu to them.

Daniel placed his own orders without delay. “A yogurt parfait and an iced coffee, please.” Then he passed the menu over to Ava to place her own order.

Ava didn't bother going through the menu when she told the waiter. "Just give me the same thing he ordered.”

Daniel looked at her with a surprised expression. “Don't bother about the bill; I'll handle it. Just choose whatever you want, even if it's expensive."

Daniel made her know that he wasn't afraid to foot the bill for the food.

However, Ava seemed satisfied with her order. “Don't worry, I'm okay with what I have chosen."

Daniel swallowed and didn't press further. The attentive waiter then took note of the orders and said, "Please, a minute,” before walking away.

Daniel watched as the waiter took their orders to the kitchen before looking back to Ava. Just when he opened his mouth to ask her a question, the latter had already opened hers to ask him a question too.

They both halted mid-sentence.

"Oh, sorry,” Ava quickly apologized. "I didn't know you wanted to say something. Please, speak.”

Daniel shook his head. "No, you go first.”

Ava refused. "You were starting already before I interjected, so kindly start.”

Daniel didn't agree. "No. Ladies first.”

The duo was debating who to start, acting as if they were a couple, until Ava's phone vibrated in her red purse and started ringing. The sound interrupted the beautiful moment that was almost causing a strange feeling in the two individuals’ minds.

Snapped out of it, Ava quickly guessed. "I think he's the one calling.” Then she pulled out her phone, and she was not wrong; it was actually the house agent. Just as she had guessed.

Just as she picked up the call and started talking with the house agent, the waiter then arrived with their orders and carefully placed them on the table before quietly leaving, telling Daniel to enjoy themselves.

Daniel nodded at him and immediately began to eat. Not long after, Ava finished speaking with the house agent.

Daniel paused his meal and looked up at her. "Any positive feedback from him?”

Ava tilted her head as she stuffed her phone back into her purse. “Yes. He said there's a particular house available. However, there's a little issue with it."

“What's that?" Daniel asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I have no idea. He said it's something that should be discussed face to face, not on a call.”

“Hmm….Hope the house isn't faulty.”

After that, the subject changed, and the two of them began to chat casually while eating their meal. The atmosphere between them was calm and warm.

Then, about twenty minutes later, both of them were done taking the last bite of their meal. Daniel leaned back and waved at the waiter, who hurriedly came.

“Calculate the price of our meals and hand me the bill," he said

The waiter tilted his head and finished the calculation in less than two minutes. “Everything sums up to $100, Sir," he answered respectfully.

Daniel took out his phone and made a swift transfer to the account given to him by the waiter. “Did $120. Keep $20 as a tip."

The waiter beamed; excitement washed over him as he thanked Daniel. However, the latter had already turned to Ava, "Don't you think we should start leaving already so I will know if I'll like the house or not?”

"Yeah, you're correct!”

Together, the two of them started walking out of the coffee shop. They were going to inspect the house that Daniel was going to buy.
