Chapter 7
Daniel paid off the cab driver he had hailed, stepped out, and walked into his rented apartment. He settled on a sofa. “It was a busy day indeed." His gaze unconsciously moved around his rented apartment for a moment. Then he said, “I think it’s time I buy my own house instead of living in a rented apartment.” He nodded in agreement with his thought. But checking the time, he knew he couldn't achieve that today since the day was already getting darker. "First thing tomorrow morning, I'll go look for a comfortable house. I don't care how much it would cost me, but I'll make sure to get it tomorrow.” Soon…. Thick darkness covered everywhere and Daniel went to bed to lay down. **** But elsewhere…. A young lady looked overly active with no sign of sleep, seeming to enter her eyes too soon. She looked at the message in her inbox that was sent to her earlier in the day, and she frowned. "Is this where he really stays?” A short sigh escaped her lips. Then, she waved that aside. "First thing tomorrow morning, I'll go visit him.” With that, she went to bed and forced herself to sleep. **** The morning soon came, and the sun penetrated through the outdated curtains. Daniel's eyes slowly opened, and he yawned before sitting up on his bed. Stretching himself, Daniel remembered the task for today. Just immediately, his stomach made a rumbling sound and he knew he was hungry. Pulling out his phone from his pocket, Daniel visited a few online food sites before finally ordering a quick dish from a particular site that intrigued him. Keeping his phone aside, Daniel added. “I should go and freshen up so that when the food I ordered arrives, I can eat it calmly. Then, I would go out to look for a good house to buy.” With that statement, Daniel entered the bathroom. A few moments later, he stepped out with a bare chest, looking refreshed. He had just a white towel wrapped around his neck. His body was dry, as it appeared he had wiped it. Daniel was about to enter his bedroom to apply his body cream when a knock came at his door. He looked toward the door. “Huh? So fast?” Daniel assumed it was the food that he had ordered that had just arrived; however, he was taken aback as he walked to the door and opened it. “You?” His eyes widened. “What are you doing here? And did you locate my house?” Daniel asked Ava at the very moment his gaze landed on her. Ava looked at him with a smile. “So, this is where you live?” Her gaze moved around the place, and she added, "It's a nice place,” even though she knew she was lying. Then she looked at Daniel more closely; only at that moment did Daniel realize his body was not covered, and instinctively covered himself with the white towel. “What are you staring at?” Daniel frowned. “Nothing.” Hearing Ava’s response, Daniel fell silent for a brief moment before sighing. Then, he diverted the subject. “I’m wondering what brought you to my house, but anyway, please come in.” Daniel offered. Ava hesitated before stepping in. She continued glancing around. Daniel noticed the look on her face and immediately felt embarrassed. He saw that she didn’t look comfortable here. However, he said, ignoring her expression. “Please, have a seat and make yourself comfortable. I’ll quickly dress up.” Ava watched Daniel enter his room before sitting down on a sofa. She brought out her phone and began to reply to some chats from friends. She was even smiling along the line. Not too long, Daniel walked into the living room and saw Ava smiling while on her phone. “Seems like you are enjoying yourself,” he said, Ava looked up from her phone. “Just having a fun chat with some of my friends.” “Alright---” Before Daniel could finish what he wanted to say, the bell to his door rang. He paused and looked toward the door, then at Ava. “A minute, I’ll be back.” He told Ava before walking forward and opening the door. Right in front of him was a delivery man carrying a packaged bag. “You are Daniel Cowell, right?” The man asked respectfully as he took in the young man. “Yes.” “Alright, here’s your order, Sir.” The man handed Daniel’s order to him. Daniel took it, and even though he had paid for this food, he decided to tip the driver $10 before walking back into the room. He set the bag down on the table and began to unwrap it. “Seems like you ordered something online,” Ava said, Daniel tilted his head. “Yes, I did.” “Why didn’t you cook?” “That’s a waste of time,” Daniel responded. Ava chuckled lightly and said playfully. “A waste of time? Or you simply don’t know how to cook.” Daniel didn’t want to press further on the subject. Thus, he replied, “If you say so.” He settled on the sofa right opposite Ava and started eating, chewing the food slowly. “You couldn’t even invite me to join you?” Ava frowned dramatically, interrupting Daniel’s peaceful eating. Daniel looked at the woman in front of her and slapped his forehead lightly. “My bad. Sorry. I thought you weren’t going to eat.” “You didn’t even ask me, yet you concluded I was never going to eat.” She let out a sigh. Daniel bit his lips slightly and didn’t say more about this; he continued eating. After about ten minutes, Daniel was done. He gathered everything and took them to the kitchen, then he returned to the living room, and said to Ava, “Had a plan of going to get a house for myself today, so I want to leave now.” Ava stood up immediately. “Can I come with you, please?” Daniel stared at her for a brief moment and, in the end, agreed. “Alright, then.”Latest Chapter

Chapter 14Soon, footsteps could be heard. Subordinates 3 and 4 were returning to the living room. They had finished searching the whole rooms upstairs, but found nothing. No traces of the young man they were looking for anywhere.“That guy thinks he can outsmart us." Subordinate 3 cursed under his breath as he stepped into the living room. Subordinate 4 rolled his eyes around the place. “Hey, where’s that biggy and skinny?" He asked, as he saw no sign of their other associates. Those weren't their names; they were just fond of each other, anyway. Subordinate 3 glanced around and frowned. “Could they be in the backyard? Let me quickly have a look.” Subordinate 4 stood there watching as subordinate 3 took off on his heels and started striding toward the backyard. As subordinate 3 was out of sight, subordinate 4 muttered. “I knew that chunky isn't capable of doing anything. He's just an overloaded fool.”Truthfully, subordinate 4 was jealous of subordinate 1 for the position he was

Chapter 13Meanwhile, inside the room, Daniel hid himself in a corner where he could barely be seen. He had finished eating the food that Ava had ordered for him a few minutes ago and was inside the kitchen washing the dirty plates when he heard a loud noise. That noise was from the moment that Damian's subordinate struck the gate with his axe.“Could it be that they're here?" Daniel muttered that before rushing to hide. His grip around the rod in his hand tightened as he gazed toward the door. “I'm waiting for them…" Meanwhile, Damian's four men weren't ready to knock. Hence, subordinate 1—the chubby one— without realizing that the door wasn't locked, moved backward before rushing forward, slamming himself against the door. The door burst open wide, the daylight shining into the living room. He almost fell to the ground as he stormed into the room. His gaze scanned the whole place in a few seconds.“You two…check the rooms upstairs,” subordinate 1 ordered as he pointed to subord

Chapter 12The night shifted and morning broke out. The sun penetrated through the curtains into the room. Daniel slowly opened his eyes and groggily sat up. Rubbing his eyes with his palm, he yawned before remembering something. “Damn it! I forgot to log in yesterday. I missed yesterday's reward!" He slapped his own forehead hard. Then, accepting his fate, Daniel said, “System, it's time to log in." Chapter 11Ava frowned. “What for?" “I want to refund you for the dishes you ordered," Daniel responded and brought out his phone, ready to give Ava back what she had spent. He believed that, as a man, it was his responsibility to take care of the woman and not the other way round. Ava was annoyed. “What do you mean? What I ordered isn't up to $300, and you are saying you want to refund me? Really? Please, stop that. I did it without expecting a refund." Naturally sensing that Ava was vexed, Daniel quickly apologized and said, "I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to get you angry. I was only trying to stay the cool guy that I am.” He intentionally used that to make Ava smile a little. And she did. However, she didn't say a word. She gathered the dirty plates and took them to the kitchen. While she was in the kitchen washing the dirty plates, Henry leaned back on the sofa, his gaze moving around the whole place as he thought about how he was going to design the room. “I'll order a

Chapter 10As Luke was out of sight, Ava looked at Daniel and asked. “So, what next?" Daniel looked around the place before responding. “Going to tidy up the whole place. I'll go to the store to get the necessary cleaning items." “I'll go with you." Daniel was surprised. "Ah! What about your store? Aren't you supposed to be monitoring what's going on there?” Ava only smiled at him. Then, she took out her phone and called a number. She talked briefly to the person before ending the call. She then looked at Daniel and said, "It's settled now. They'll take good care of everything in my absence. So, I'm free to go with you now, right?" Daniel swallowed hard. “No problem." With that, the two of them walked out of the house. Daniel locked the gate with the keys that Luke had given him before he exited. Hailing a cab, they entered and arrived at the store where cleaning items were being sold. After paying the driver, Daniel and Ava walked into the store and began to pick the items us

Daniel raised his head and saw a man standing at a black gate. The man was wearing a black suit, dressed almost formally.“Is that him?” Daniel asked, pointing at the man.Ava’s gaze followed his finger, and her eyes landed on the man. “Yes, that’s him.” She nodded in confirmation. “Let’s meet him then.”Upon reaching where this man was standing, Ava quickly greeted him. “Good day, Mr. Luke.”“Good day, Miss Ava,” the man named Luke replied. “It’s nice doing business again with you.” His gaze shifted toward the young man who had arrived with Ava, and he asked. “Is he the person who wants to buy the house?”“Yes,” Ava answered before she quickly introduced him. “Daniel, meet Mr. Luke.
