It Must Be Her

“I knew we shouldn’t have seen her,” Mr. Loreson blew hot.

Three hours after Jules left, they were still fuming with rage. It was as though Jules had come to awaken every anger, bitterness, and pain they were feeling.

They were pained.

“I hate her so much,” Mrs. Loreson muttered angrily. “Seeing her sitting so majestically and happily made me sick. I wish it was her child who had been shot in the head and left for dead in the pool of his blood,” she added.

Then she broke into sobbing as images of Vince’s body flashed through her mind, causing her to experience grief all over again.

“His head was shot open…my poor Vince…on his birthday,” she sobbed bitterly.

Mr. Loreson looked at his wife and pitied her, but he didn’t go very close to her or even attempt to hold her close. The truth was that before Vince’s death, they had actually been going through some crises in their marriage and even considering a divorce.

However, with this tragedy, they had no choice but to stick together.

“They made it look like Vince was out of his mind with those drugs and shot himself…he didn’t even own a gun,” she continued to sob.

The mistake made was for Mrs. Loreson to have seen Vince’s body. In less than twenty-four hours, she had suffered too much mental breakdown, and he felt really sorry for her. Mr. Loreson was embittered at what happened, only that as a man, he couldn’t be seen sobbing and crying as his wife was doing.

They both wished that they could have their son back.

“Don’t worry about it, Benita. We are going to get our vengeance,” Mr. Loreson assured his wife.

“Jules must feel this pain I am feeling right now,” she said amidst tears and Mr. Loreson nodded in agreement.

He also had his own personal scores against Jules that had nothing to do with Vince’s death; it was something that happened years ago, but he wasn’t going to talk about it. Jules knew better than to utter it to anyone as well.

This was his opportunity to take his pound of flesh against Jules and he would use it to the fullest.

Ever since the incident that happened between them that neither of them could say to anyone, Mr. Loreson had been looking for ways to get back at her, and this was just the perfect opportunity. It was sick that he was using his son’s death to get his own revenge, but then again, Vince wasn’t even that much of a son.

He was weak, and less successful, and he did drugs.

Mr. Loreson had tried every means possible for Vince to be half as successful as his peers, but that never happened. Worse, Mr. Loreson got even more infuriated when he learned that Nesse had become more successful than Vince.

They had had a major altercation two days before his birthday, which was why he hadn’t really been present when the whole thing happened. However, Mr. Loreson was grateful again that no one knew about it, otherwise they might have looked in his direction too.

So now, he would just have to stick to his wife and act like their plan against Nesse was for Vince’s revenge.

“The detective and the doctor is here, sir,” the doorman walked into the living room and informed Mr. Loreson and his wife.

“Good, let them in,” Mr. Loreson said.

They had both been expecting them for a while now, and it was a good thing that Jules had already left before they showed up. Mr. Loreson and his wife wanted this to be as discreet as possible.

“Alright, sir,” the doorman said before he turned and left.

About a minute later, the detective and the doctor walked into the living room.

“We have been waiting,” Mr. Loreson said while his wife cleaned the tears that had pooled her face.

“I had to ensure that all the results are accurate,” the doctor responded.

“Is she still in your custody?” Mrs. Loreson asked the detective.

“Yes, she is,” the detective responded. “But she is also very influential, and we cannot keep her for much longer. The only reason why we still have her there is because assassination is a more serious crime,” he explained.

“She has to be there,” Mrs. Loreson insisted.

“We can only carry out the plan if she is still in your custody,” Mr. Loreson added.

“Or you could take her to court,” the detective suggested.

Mr. Loreson and his wife glared at him with anger.

They both knew that the court wouldn’t give them the vengeance they were seeking. They were convinced that Nesse was responsible for Vince’s death, especially Mrs. Loreson, so they wanted to see her dead as well.

“The doctor is here with the autopsy report,” the detective said, quickly shifting the attention away from himself.

“Who else knows about this result?” Mr. Loreson asked the doctor.

“No one, unless you want it to be published to the public, but it hasn’t even been recorded yet,” he answered. “The detective was very firm with his instructions,” he added.

Mr. Loreson and his wife were very pleased to hear that.

“So what does it say?” Mrs. Loreson asked curiously, beating her husband to it.

“First of all, drugs and alcohol were found in his system,” he informed them.

They looked at each other and looked away.

Mr. Loreson wasn’t surprised; that was what Vince was great at.

“If this report goes out, the public is going to conclude that Vince was high on drugs and alcohol, which could actually lead anyone into killing himself. In court, it could be dismissed as erratic and irrational,” the detective explained extensively.

Mrs. Loreson’s shoulders sagged.

“Well, it’s a good thing no one is going to see or hear of this bloody report that is going to tarnish his image,” Mr. Loreson said.

“And the gunshot?” Mrs. Loreson asked.

“Actually, Vince didn’t kill himself,” the doctor responded, much to their relief. “According to the autopsy, someone else also held the gun, but I am a little confused as to why the fingerprint isn’t showing clearly,” he added worriedly.

“How do you mean?” Mr. Loreson asked.

“It is a whole long line of medical explanation, but from all indications, I think you have the wrong person in custody,” he added.

Mr. Loreson looked at the detective and said, “None of this matters. Nesse is responsible, and that is final.”

The living room was thick with dread at Mr. Loreson’s declaration.

IRON’S POV“Don’t beat yourself up about it too much, Lord Dante,” Blake kept telling me.For the entire day, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of what seemed like the recent revelation to me, and the guilt that everything the Titans might have been facing was all because of me.“The most important thing is that you now know that there is a problem, and in my opinion, that helps to tackle it,” he added.“You are just trying to be supportive, Blake, but it will not take too long before you tell the other Titans and a rebel will be planned against me,” I told him. From the previous day, to the entire night, and till this very moment, we were still deliberating on this particular issue.“You should know now that I don’t act that way, Lord Dante, and you might just be surprised at how loyal and committed the rest of the Titans are to you,” Blake said without sounding offended. “But speaking of Givan and Norman,” he added.I shook my head.Thinking day and night about it wasn’t going to cha

NESSE’S POVI stood in front of my vanity mirror and stared at my stomach. Before now, I would do it with dread, but I was tired of letting this damn disease to control how I handled things. I was always at the helm of every affair that concerned me.And this wouldn’t be different. But I had been stunned to speechlessness for a few minutes; the roundness in my stomach had increased since the last time I saw it.“Didn’t I take a look at it yesterday morning?” I asked myself.I did.I looked at it every freaking morning because each time I opened my eyes at dawn, that was the first thing that came to my mind, no matter how hard I tried to shove it off, and so, I always checked to ensure that I would never be taken unaware. But this morning, I was deeply taken unaware, and the swell I saw left me speechless for a few minutes.“When did it grow to this size?” I continued to ask myself.Till now, I couldn’t touch my stomach, and even when I showered, I ensured to keep off that area, in sli

IRON’S POV“Hades is alive,” I said for the umpteenth time.I paced about the floor of my chamber and kept pondering on the thought.Blake was right here with me, but he had stayed quiet all along. The Titans had been locked up in a separate room until I had come to a conclusion on what I wanted to do with them.Death wasn’t the first thing that came to my mind.Right now, I was even still trying to digest everything that they had told me.“And he is the leader of the Valhallahs,” I added. These two revelations were doing my head in.As many times I had repeated the words to myself and out loud, I still couldn’t believe it. It felt as though Givan had merely cooked up a story, and I might not have honestly believed him if he hadn’t shown us the power that he had been given to bury beside our walls to weaken them.A lot of revelations had been spilled that left me utterly speechless.“The Valhallahs were part of the realms who attacked this Organization during the war that happened thr

HADES’ POVThe joy in my heart, knowing that I had murdered the Seer knew no bounds. As I made my way back to the Structure, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.“He is dead and gone,” I said to myself.Again, it was a good thing I kept Syron by my side. I saw his usefulness when no one else did, and now, he was working for just me.While I found my way to the Structure, I detoured.I wanted time to think about my next course of action without any distractions and questions, especially coming from Syron. He always meant good because he was downright loyal, but he was always intercepting my thoughts and decisions. In a few weeks, the walls of the Organization would be weak and easily penetrable. All I would need to do was get in, but I didn’t want to just go about things the way I did with the other realms the last time.We were able to weaken their walls and get in, quite alright, but we weren’t able to fulfill the mission of the whole plan, which was to get Iron; he was too powerful an

  • The Return

IRON’S POVBlake and I got there in time to see that it was the Titans who had fled from the Organization. The Titans guarding the walls of the Organization held them tightly. Were they trying to sneak their way back into the Organization?“What is going on here?” I asked in my stiff and firm voice. They stopped and stared at Blake and me.“We caught them trying to sneak into the Organization,” one of the Titans answered.“No, we weren’t,” the other Titan responded.I recognized him as Givan. The other one, Norman, was already almost shaking with fear because he already knew that there was punishment for what they had done, but as for Givan, he didn’t look very scared, or even if he did, he was good at shielding it.“Then what were you trying to do?” I asked them.“We are not supposed to be here,” Norman said.I decided here and now that I didn’t want to have this conversation here. Whatever it was, they were here now.“To my chamber,” I stated firmly. And without saying more than tha

  • The Hardest Thing To Tell

I watched Blake train the Titans, and just like the other trainings that I had watched, it was excellent. I could attest to the fact that the Titans were improving greatly.Blake had a fight with two of them, and surprisingly, they had learned to swing their weapons and keep themselves from getting hurt.Although not well enough because they were fighting with Blake, but they were way better than they used to be, and that was really impressive. As I watched them, I had no regret in making Blake my right hand man.He poured himself and everything he had into the Titans. There was nothing he hid from them, and I knew that soon enough, they would be just as brave and strong.I clapped when Blake ended the training session.“One hour to get something into your stomachs and rest, and then we are back here to continue with the training!” Blake told them firmly. They nodded in agreement. Then they jogged off, but they were also excited that I had clapped for them. I sensed their sense of enc
