Noah stood frozen in the dark room. The blue screen still glowed in front of his eyes. The soft voice from the hallway repeated the words.

“Found you… Noah.”

His heart hammered hard. He had only seconds.

The system flashed a new line.

Warning. Enemy is five steps away.

Option 1: Stay hidden. Risk of capture 90%.

Option 2: Use Emergency Shield. Cost: 50 million dollars. Lasts 30 seconds.

Noah did not think long. He chose Option 2.

A soft blue light covered his body just as the steel door opened fully. A tall man in a black coat stepped inside. The man’s face stayed in shadow, but his voice was cold and calm.

“So the Fortune System finally woke up,” the man said. “I have been waiting three years for this day.”

Noah’s mind raced. This stranger knew about the system. That meant it was not random. Someone had planned this long before tonight.

The blue shield flickered. Only twenty seconds left.

Noah did not wait. He lunged forward and shoved the man hard. The man stumbled back into the hallway. Noah ran past him and sprinted down the long corridor.

Behind him the man shouted, “Stop him! The host is escaping!”

Two more men in black coats appeared at the end of the hall. Noah had nowhere to go.

The shield timer hit zero. The blue light vanished.

Noah made a fast choice. He turned left into a side room and slammed the door. It was an old storage room full of boxes. He climbed onto a high shelf and held his breath.

Footsteps stopped outside.

“He is close,” one man said. “The system energy is still strong. Search every room.”

Noah’s hands shook. He pressed his forehead against the cold wall and tried to breathe quietly. In the dark he could still hear Emma’s voice from earlier.

“Noah is pure trash.”

The words kept repeating in his head. She had looked him in the eyes and said she never loved him. She had laughed while he stood there broken. All the years he had spent trying to be enough for her felt like a bad joke now.

The system flashed again.

New Mission: Escape the Brooks compound before sunrise.

Time left: 11 hours 42 minutes.

Extra reward if you learn the enemy’s name.

Noah whispered, “Who are you people?”

The system answered with a short message.

Information locked. Host must earn it.

Heavy footsteps moved away. Noah waited two full minutes, counting slowly in his head. Then he slipped out of the storage room. He moved like a shadow toward the back garden. He knew a loose fence board there from the old days when he used to hide from Brandon after the older boy had pushed him around.

Just as he reached the garden, a flashlight beam hit his face.

Brandon stood ten steps away, holding a phone.

“There you are, trash,” Brandon said with a mean smile. “Mother wants you cleaned up for tomorrow. Grandmother’s birthday, remember? You still have to wash my old clothes.”

Noah forced his voice to stay calm. His heart was still racing from the men in black, but he could not show fear in front of Brandon.

“I’m going,” he said.

Brandon stepped closer. “You smell like pool water and fear. What were you doing in the dark room so long? Talking to ghosts?”

Noah did not answer. He walked past Brandon toward the fence.

Brandon grabbed his arm hard.

“Don’t walk away from me.”

Noah looked at the hand on his arm. The system flashed a quick choice.

Use Strength Boost? Cost: 10 million dollars. Lasts 10 seconds. Risk: muscle pain for one hour after.

Noah accepted. He needed to get out now. Staying meant more humiliation, and he had taken enough for one night.

Power flooded his arms. He twisted free and shoved Brandon back. Brandon hit the ground with a surprised shout.

Noah ran. He reached the loose fence board, pulled it open, and squeezed through. Cold night air hit his face. He was outside the compound.

His legs burned from the boost. The pain started already, just like the system warned. Every step felt like knives in his muscles. He limped down the dark street, teeth clenched.

A car with no lights on followed slowly behind him.

The system flashed bright red.

Danger. The enemy has tracked your energy.

They know you left the compound.

New information unlocked: The man in the black coat works for an organization called the Black Ledger.

Their goal: take the Fortune System by force.

They have already paid someone inside the Brooks family.

Noah’s blood turned cold. Someone inside the family was helping the enemy. That explained everything — Emma’s sudden cruelty, the fake story about the maid, Mrs. Brooks’ rage. It was not just hate. It was a plan. They had been waiting for this night.

He kept walking. The pain in his muscles grew worse. He needed a place to hide and think.

A small 24-hour store stood on the corner. Noah went inside and bought a cheap hoodie and a bottle of water with the last cash in his pocket. He put the hoodie on and sat in the back corner, far from the windows.

His hands still shook. He kept seeing Emma’s face when she laughed at him. He kept hearing her say he was trash. The words hurt more than the muscle pain. For years he had told himself that if he just worked harder, if he just stayed patient, she would see his worth. Tonight she had shown him the truth. She had never seen him as anything more than a convenient fool.

The system spoke again.

Host has spent 60 million dollars so far.

First billion is now unlocked for limited use.

Warning: Every large spend sends a signal. The Black Ledger can follow the signal.

Noah stared at the words. The money was real, but using it was dangerous. Every time he spent big, the enemy could find him faster.

He made a decision. He would not touch the big money yet. He needed information first. He needed to understand who had sold him out and why.

He took out his old phone. The screen was cracked, but it still worked. He typed a short message to the only person who had ever been kind to him in the Brooks house — the young maid who had been forced to lie.

He did not fully trust her. But she had looked scared when she lied. And that morning she had given him a clean towel without a word. That small act of kindness was the only soft thing he had felt all day.

The message said: “I know you were forced. Meet me at the old bus stop in one hour if you want to stay safe.”

He hit send and stared at the screen for a long time.

Outside the store window, the same dark car rolled past slowly. The man in the black coat sat in the back seat. He looked straight at Noah through the glass and smiled.

The system flashed one final warning.

Enemy has confirmed your location.

They will not attack in public.

They will wait until you are alone.

Time until sunrise: 10 hours 51 minutes.

Survive or lose everything.

Noah stood up. His muscles still hurt, but he walked out of the store with his head high.

He had no real plan yet. He only knew one thing.

Running forever was not an option. He had spent too many years running from Brandon’s insults, from Mrs. Brooks’ cold eyes, from Emma’s quiet disappointment. Tonight had taken everything from him. If he kept running, he would lose the last piece of himself that still mattered.

He had to turn around and fight back somehow.

And the first step was finding out who inside the Brooks family had sold him to the Black Ledger.

He started walking toward the old bus stop, every step heavy with pain, anger, and a quiet new promise.

He would not stay trash forever.

Expensive cars pulled up every few minutes. Laughing voices drifted out every time the door opened.Noah felt the ten thousand dollars in his pocket. It was real, but it still felt strange, like it might disappear if he blinked too hard. The clean clothes still did not feel like his.“We can’t walk in the front,” Kara said. “They know both our faces by now.”Noah watched the side of the building. A service door opened for a delivery van. Two kitchen workers stepped out for a smoke.“There,” he said. “Service entrance. If we time it right, we can follow them back in.”Kara looked at him. “And then what? We just walk around until we find Victor’s notebook?”“We look for the top floor. The notebook said that’s where he keeps it. We get proof about my parents and we leave. Nothing else.”Kara was quiet for a moment. Her fingers tigh

They sat on the concrete steps near the back wall.Noah took the blue notebook out of the backpack and held it. The frozen account message still sat in his phone like a stone. Four thousand dollars in cash was all he had left. The clean shirt on his back still felt like it belonged to someone else.“Midnight,” Kara said. “That’s six hours.”Noah nodded. “Victor wants the notebook. If I give it to him, he wins. If I don’t, the police report goes out and my face is everywhere.”Kara leaned her head back against the wall. “There’s another way. We could leave the city tonight. Start over somewhere else with what’s left.”Noah looked at her. “Is that what you want?”Kara was quiet for a long time. When she spoke, her voice was soft.“Part of me does. I’m tired of running. I’m tired of looking over my shoulder every hour. But if we le

Noah sat in the passenger seat and watched the city slide past the window. Kara drove fast but not wild. She checked the mirrors every few seconds. The cut above her eye had stopped bleeding, but it still looked fresh.“Where are we going?” Noah asked.“A place the Black Ledger doesn’t know about yet,” she said. “An old apartment above a closed laundry. I used it once when I first left them.”Noah kept one hand on the bank card in his pocket. Sixty-two thousand dollars. More money than he had ever touched. It still did not feel real. Part of him expected someone to snatch it away any second.Kara glanced at him. “You don’t trust me. That’s smart. I wouldn’t trust me either.”“You left the Black Ledger,” Noah said. “Why?”Kara was quiet for a long moment. When she spoke again her voice was lower.“They don’t just take the system.
