Brian struggled with the thought, the feeling getting so intense that he couldn’t ignore it.

“I can’t wait to get rid of that bastard, Romeo! We can finally be together!” The female voice screamed louder, causing Brian’s eyes to widen.

He swallowed hard, hoping he was wrong.

“No. it can’t be…” He muttered, but there was only one way to find out.

He damned the consequences, pulling the handle with a strong velocity.

“Goodness!” He gasped, the heartrending sight causing him to drop the parcel, yet the thudding sound was unable to distract the two on the bed from their caught-up moment.

Even though Brian could only see the bareback of the lady, he certainly recognized her from her blonde hair and the tattoo on the right side of her neck.

The room suddenly felt smaller, and it was as if he could hear an intense banging inside his swelling head.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he staggered backward, watching his wife ride his boss so passionately that her mouth refused to close while her eyes were tightly shut.

They were both sweating profusely as they panted, depleting the work of the air conditioner.

“Pearl…” Brian called out, but it was Romeo who heard his voice.

“What the hell?!” Romeo jolted in shock, pushing Pearl off him.

Pearl screamed as soon as she saw her husband, grabbing the duvet and covering her shame.

“What…!” She stuttered, hiding her face.

“What the fuck, Brian?! What the hell are you doing here?!” She turned to Romeo for an explanation, but he was busy trying to put on his pants.

“I asked you to bring the package to me, Brian!” Romeo grunted, still gathering his breath.

“I never asked you to barge in like you own the place!” He scowled, climbing down the bed.

He marched toward Brian, eyes sparking with rage.

Then a slap followed, but Brian didn’t fluster.

Nothing could hurt more than the betrayal, agony sizzling in his contracted pupils.

“Are those tears I see on your face?” Romeo sneered, a smirk spreading across his sweaty face.

“Don’t tell me you believed that Pearl Stuttgart, the beauty goddess was going to remain faithful to you!”

Brian sniffled, shifting his gaze to his wife who had already wrapped herself with the duvet before walking up to Romeo.

“Have you forgotten how to knock, Brian?!” Pearl sparked, eyes flaming with disdain.

“Now you just ruined the moment. You didn’t even let me cum!” She grunted, hissing at him.

Brian’s chest tightened, his eyes red with both pain and anger.

He searched for guilt or remorse on Pearl’s face, but found none.

Instead, Romeo grabbed her by the waist while she giggled.

“Stop, Romeo! You are going to make him jealous!” Pearl’s voice dripped with sarcasm, and then she smirked at Brian.

“Why did you ask him to come here? I thought you said you sent him on an errand.”

“Yes, Baby…” Romeo nodded, and then he pointed at the package on the floor.

“I thought he was going to come before you arrived. But clearly…” He stopped just to make sure that his sneer was enough to upset Brian before he continued.

“It seems your husband is not just clumsy, he is also pathetic.”

“Oh, please!” Pearl grunted, glaring at Brian with disdain.

“Don’t call him that! I hate to be associated with a loser like him.”

Again, she rolled her eyes at Brian, her orbs flaming with resentment.

“If only my Grandfather didn’t force me to marry you, what business do I have with a pauper who couldn’t even afford to take me on a proper date?”

She caressed Romeo’s bare chest, rubbing his hair with her tall fingers.

Brian’s heart continued to pound against his ribcage, his eyes red and dark at the same time.

“How could you do this to me, Pearl? Today is our third anniversary…” His voice was barely above a whisper, dragged down by the pangs of betrayal.

Pearl scoffed, and then she took a step forward, leaving just a meter space between them.

“I am done, Brian!” She blurted, giving him a condescending look.

“I am done with this sham of a marriage. Romeo here has promised to talk to some of his friends to invest in my company. That’s the kind of man I want for myself, not someone who works as a Chief Security Officer in a Company…”

Brian’s world seemed to be turning upside down, his fists clenched, yet he couldn’t do anything with his anger.

Two and a half years earlier, he had sold his Tech Company and given up his shares just so that he could help his wife with her business.

SilverTech was a fast-rising Tech and Communication company that was moving to break all odds and stand out as one of the ten leading Tech companies in Lakeville.

It was a shock to people that the owner decided to shut down all in the name of love- all in the name of supporting his wife so that she could save her family business from bankruptcy.

“What a fool!” Many thought, seeing no sense in his sacrifice.

Apparently, that seemed more important than building a career and doing what he loved the most.

“I sacrificed everything for you, Pearl. I degraded myself to do this job so that I could support you.”

“No one asked you to!” Pearl snapped, rolling her eyes once again.

The sharp pain went deeper into Brian’s chest, as though an arrow had been fired at him.

Romeo sniggered, covering his mouth with his right hand.

“Well…” He stepped forward and grabbed the parcel.

“It’s a good thing you are here, Brian…” He began to tear the seal of the parcel, revealing the red rectangular box with golden edges.

“Now you get to witness what it means to be a real man.”

Romeo opened the box before everyone, revealing the pearl necklace inside.

“Here, my love…” He took out the necklace and showed it to Pearl.

“I got this for you to tell you how much I love you, how much you mean to me.” He chuckled softly, his smug smile unwavering.

“It’s the limited moonlight Peal Necklace. Lovely and rare… just like you.”

Pearl gasped, her eyes sparking with delight.

“Oh my God, Romeo!” She covered her mouth with both hands and couldn’t take her eyes off the precious jewelry.

“This must have cost a fortune…” She remarked, reaching to grab the necklace.

“Not really. Five hundred thousand dollars is no money to me…” Romeo bragged, and then he helped Pearl put on the necklace while she lifted her hair for him.

“Perfect…” Romeo complimented, and then turned to Brian, still holding onto his smirk.

“That’s how to treat a woman as beautiful as Pearl. You failed, Brian Regal, you failed…”

They both laughed, and Pearl seemed to be having most of the fun.

Brian’s fists clenched tightly, his heart pounding as he glared at them.

“How long has this been going on?” He asked with a broken tone, not certain he was ready for the answer.

“Three years, Brian,” Pearl responded, and then she turned to Romeo who kissed her in an attempt to mock Brian.

“Romeo and I were college lovers. I reunited with him as soon as he was back to the City to take over his family business. How do you think it was easy to get you that job as a security man?”

  • Admiration Withdrawn

“I am sorry. I can’t do that.” Winnie was quick to respond, then a snort followed.“I think you should leave, Mr. Regal. My boss is busy at the moment. He won’t be able to see you.”“But you just told me a while ago that he was less busy,” Brian argued, his face attacked by patches of frustration. “That was before I realized that he was too busy to see someone as unimportant as you.” Winnie didn’t hide her disdain. She looked at Brian like he was a piece of rag, glaring from the crown of his head, down to the sole of his shoes. It didn’t matter if he looked presentable or not, his name was a representation of failure and a man who had acted foolishly. Brian swallowed everything in good faith. After all, he was the one who brought everything upon himself. No one forced him to sell his company, not even to the highest bidder, but to the first person who offered to purchase it for a few million dollars. “I guess I deserve that.” He took a deep breath, yet his determination

  • Greeenfield Co

Brian stood in front of the tall building, both regret and annoyance simmering inside him. The company had been renamed from SilverLine Tech to Greenfield Co after he sold it in a desperate attempt to please his ex-wife. “All for nothing…” He muttered in despair, a heavy sigh escaping his lungs. Then he began to march toward the entrance, each step feeling heavier than the last. For some reason, the guards at the casement door didn’t stop him, probably because he was dressed differently- like a businessman or important personnel. They didn’t even recognize him, not even a glimpse of who he was. Brian continued moving slowly until he arrived at the reception. The young lady seated in front of the large screen was blowing hard on ballooned gum, biting hard even when she had sucked all the juice. Her fingers were clicking hard on the keyboard, but she had to stop when she saw Brian approaching. “Hello, Sir!” She said with a smile, her eyes flashing with pure admiration.

  • Sharp Mouth

“You have to believe it, Arya. I just did.” Brian held onto his smile, and then he took a deep breath.“But why?” Arya couldn’t let it go, the intense desire to know the truth. “Let’s just say that I have finally found a purpose.” “Oh…” Arya pretended to be satisfied by Brian’s response for the second time, nodding with a deadpan expression.“I am very sorry that you were not invited to the celebration. But I am grateful that you did a great job. I will send you the balance once I am settled.” Brian chuckled softly, causing Arya’s expression to drop. The lady was already asking why he was laughing with her eyes. “Don’t worry, Arya. You can give me the balance. At the party.”“You are coming?” Arya inquired with arched brows, staring even when Brian nodded.“Yes. And I will be coming with some flowers for my future wife.” “But…” “You don’t have to say anything, Arya.” Brian stopped her before she could continue with her slippery voice, still holding onto his confident

  • Uninvited

Arya shook her head frantically, but the truth was the truth. It was hanging in the air like their breath, soaring all around her.“He is a nobody, Grandpa. Brian is my husband, and getting this deal wouldn’t have been possible without him.” “No…” Don Pedro retorted with a cold tone, pupils contrasted in annoyance.“You will bring no shame to the Kirk family, child…” He took a deep breath, then he breathed annoyance. “This…” He pointed at Brian, in search of the right noun to use. “This leech will certainly not be my grandson-in-law. You had better divorce him now that it is early.” “I agree…” Travis nodded, smiling as though he was going to get a reward for it. “I am sure that he would want to reap where he did not sow. That’s what wretched men like him do.” Brian slowly pulled down his right hand, returning it to his side.He inhaled sharply, ignoring Travis and turning to the old man. “I think you are mistaken, Mr. Kirk. I am not a nobody, I am…”“I don’t care.”

  • The Kirks

“Who are you talking about?” Brian asked with a soft tone, but when he realized that he wasn’t going to get a response by just asking, he decided to turn toward the same direction Arya was looking. He saw them. An old man probably in his early seventies, a young man in his early thirties, and six bodyguards who were bouncing behind them. The two men in front were dressed in the same tuxedos, looking like the old and young versions of each other. From the way people stared and pointed, Brian could already tell who they were. “Let me guess…” He slowly returned his gaze to Arya, catching sight of the worry on her face.“That’s your Grandpa, and your brother.”“You guessed right.” Arya let out a heavy sigh, yet she couldn’t attain relief.“I wonder what they are doing here, Brian. It’s been barely thirty minutes since the close of the event.” Arya kept on staring, but she couldn’t look either of the two men in the eyes. She looked above them, but that didn’t look like it was

  • The Response

“Hello.” Arya waved at the couple, a smirk plastered across her face. Pearl snorted, disgruntlement etched on her face. “Have you come to make fun of us?”“No! Not at all!” Arya shook her head, yet she refused to discard her wry smile. “Why would I do such a thing?” She asked silently, moving her eyes from Pearl to Romeo, and back to Pearl. “As a matter of fact, I have come to sympathize with both of you. Not every day do we get to see people get so disappointed and yet stand courageous like you.” She tutted continuously, shaking her head with a palpable sneer. Her words stung the couple as though a hive of bees had attacked them, their temper rising as they scowled at her. “What did you do to make Mr. Adkins put your name on the list?” Romeo asked, but Pearl interrupted before Arya could decide if she was going to respond or not. “Did you sleep with him?” Her voice was cold, her glaring eyes demanding an immediate response, refusing to even blink. Arya scoffed, and
