Brian stopped, turning to face the old Concierge.

“What did you just say?” He demanded an immediate response, looking the old man in the eyes.

“Your Grandfather, Master Brian. He is dying…” Diego repeated, and then he took a deep breath.

Sadness drained his expression, lining up along the veins on his forehead.

“He had a heart attack last night. The Doctors said he barely has up to a year to live.”

“I hope this is not a prank…” Brian snarled, his eyes sounding a warning.

“No, Master Brian…” Diego shook his head, taking a deep breath.

“Lord Regal wants to spend the remaining days of his life making up for all the mistakes he made. He knows your father was innocent, and wants to show you how truly sorry he is.”

The words melted Brian’s heart, but the pain was still intact.

Twenty years earlier, Brian’s father was framed for diverting the company funds by his cousins and uncles.

He pleaded not guilty, but his Father, Ambrose Regal believed the majority.

Brian’s parents were ousted and stripped of all their belongings.

The same night they were asked to leave, his parents were assassinated after a combined effort by his father’s cousins and some of his rivals.

Brian was just ten, but he managed to escape.

“Run, Brian! Run, my son!”

He could still hear the frail voice of his mother, urging him to escape before the gunshots that killed her echoed across the woods.

His Grandfather had been trying all he could to get Brian to come reclaim all his father owned, but the pain of losing them made him stay away for a while.

That still didn’t stop the old man from sending the Concierge to look after Brian and send daily reports about his activities to him.

In less than a decade, Lord Regal was still betrayed by the same set of people, causing him to endure pain and remorse at the same time.

Brian swore to avenge the death of his parents and make the world know his father was innocent.

Tears welled up in his eyes again, but he managed to hold them back.

An opportunity had presented itself, and he was going to take it.

He sighed heavily, turning to face Diego.

“Tell Grandpa I will be home in a few days.” He stated, causing the old man to chuckle softly.

“Wonderful news!” Diego held onto his smile, and then he sighed in relief.

“I am sure Lord Regal will be thrilled to hear this!”

“I hope so…” Brian retorted casually, and then he got into the car and zoomed off.

The old man watched the car drift into the road, and after a while, he returned to his own car, taking out his phone from his pocket.

“He has agreed to come back. Make sure there are no mistakes…” He pocketed the phone as soon as he was done talking and signaled to the driver at once.

Meanwhile, Brian was on his way to Berry Villa- The Stuttgart estate.

That was the last place he wanted to be, but he had something to pick up.

He blinked his eyes severally, attempting to get rid of the flashes of the image of Pearl riding another man like a horse, but it seemed it had become a part of his mind.

“She didn’t even let me touch her.” He muttered, fury rimming inside him.

“I don’t think I am ready to have children yet, Brian…” She gave the same excuse, insisting that she wanted to build her career and concentrate on rebuilding her family business.

On his way, his car stopped, and he already knew what the problem was.

As soon as he opened the engine lid, he grabbed a stone and struck the battery plugs until they sparked with electricity, then he continued his ride.

He walked slowly into the mansion, and then to the bedroom he shared with Pearl.

By the corner, close to the cabinet was the mat where he usually slept.

“I have been a fool…” Brian thought, shaking his head while he moved to the wardrobe.

He grabbed his small brown luggage, and then the picture of his parents- the only memory he had of them and he cherished it more than any treasure.

After he had exhaled sharply, he turned to walk away only to see Pearl’s mother standing behind him.

“What are you doing here?!” Lady Bianca glared at him, disdain sparking in her eyes.

“I thought my daughter already made it clear that she wants nothing to do with you.” She waited, but the only response she could get was a huff from Brian.

She watched him advance toward her, his eyes on the door.

“Stop right there!” She blocked the way, spreading her arms.

“I need to make sure that you didn’t steal anything. Let me have that!” She snatched the brown bag from Brian and hurled everything to the ground.

The hairbrush, the three pairs of underwear, a diary, and the pair of shorts fell.

Lady Bianca scattered them with her legs only she was satisfied.

She tossed the brown bag on the ground and returned her gaze to Brian.

“My daughter deserves to be with a better man, someone like Romeo Jones. He has promised to help us get a hold of the Power Line Project. That’s going to make us hundreds of millions.” She sighed in delight, but her hatred for Brian was still palpable.

“Make sure you never come back to this place again! I will call the cops on you if I ever see you around our perimeter!”

Brian scoffed, but before he could consider breaking his silence, someone else walked in.

It was Nelly, Pearl’s cousin.

It was hard to tell who was more arrogant and heartless between the two of them.

Little wonder why they looked so much like twins.

“Hello, Leech!” She cursed in her usual language, rolling her eyes at Brian.

“I thought you said we were no longer going to see him again, Aunt Bianca…” She turned to Lady Bianca who nodded slowly.

“I guess he is here to take his little belongings.” She rolled her eyes at Brian, and then she scoffed.

Brian held onto the picture with both hands, refusing to utter even a word.

Pearl joined the party, walking slowly into the room.

Her eyes sparked when she saw Brian, and she angrily stomped her feet before marching toward him.

“What have you come here to do, you fool?! I thought I made it clear that we are done!”

The nurse froze, standing right in front of the sick man. She could only roll her bulging eyes, struggling to catch her breath.“Is there any problem, sir?” Leon asked, staring at Brian. “No…” Brian shook his head while his eyes were still on the nurse. “What is that?” He pointed at the stainless steel, preparing to take a step forward. Leon scoffed. “That’s medication for Mr. Duncan, sir. You speak as though you are looking at something else…”“What kind of medication?” Brian questioned, and then he turned to give the Doctor a piercing stare. “I… I…” Leon stuttered, forced to take a deep breath. “I do not understand what you are saying, sir. I think you should allow the nurse to do her job. Mr. Duncan needs to be given those injections. They would make his blood pressure stable while we prepare him for surgery.” “Hmm?” Brian nodded, slowly returning his gaze to the nurse.“To keep his blood pressure stable, you say?”“Yes…” Leon gave a quick response, nodding to af

  • Considerable Wife

“What did you just say?” Diego’s eyes were widened, his jaw dropped while he stared at the lady.Any other person would have gasped, his eyes glaring with a rising annoyance. “I am sure I spoke plain English, Sir.” Wendy sounded a bit arrogant, rolling her eyes at the baby. “I heard your company is one of the top Tech companies in Lakeville. So paying a hundred million dollars in damages shouldn’t be a problem for you…” Brian scoffed, taking his eyes off the lady.Apart from the greed that was etched on the lady’s face, he could also sense her ignorance. “Do you know who I am?” He asked, pointing to himself while he maintained his wry smile. Wendy looked at him from hair to the soles of his shoes, and it seemed as though she was also making use of that opportunity to size him up.“I don’t know…” She muttered, returning her gaze to Brian’s face.“I am assuming that you are the Manager of the Company, and this man could be your driver.” She pointed to Diego without looking

Wendy still had her eyes on Leon, and when she was ready to speak, she cleared her throat twice before she turned to face the man who had questioned her.“Take a look at my husband, Sir…” She sniffled, leaving everyone stunned as a result of the tears that raced out of her eyes. “He was just working hard and trying to fend for his family. He promised me that he was going to be back early today so that he could massage my feet. Now look at him, lying there like a log of wood.” Her voice was shaky, and no matter how hard she sniffled, she couldn’t get rid of the tears that were trickling down her face. “Take it easy, Wendy…” Leon paused, instantly regretting his u

  • The Demand

“Yes!” Leon quickly got up, adjusted his coat, and moved toward Brian and Diego. He stood about a meter before them, yet he couldn’t lift his eyes to look at them.“Doctor?” Brian called out in a low tone, but that still couldn’t make the Doctor look up.“You seem to be very concerned about Miss Duncan. If I didn’t know any better, I would have concluded that you were her husband and not Cole here…” Leon instinctively lifted his face, but could only stare at Brian for a nanosecond. “I always make sure that my patients are in good health, Mr. Brian. Their welfare is my priority…” “Of course…” Brian chuckled softly, then he cleared his throat. “So…” He continued with a voice barely above a whisper, still giving the Doctor a piercing stare while his wry smile was still intact. “What’s the way forward? How do we take care of this man?” He pointed to Cole, the same concern glittering in his eyes. Before he could say even a word, Leon turned to Wendy as though she was the Do

The Concierge turned to face Brian at once, and then he sighed heavily. He didn’t need to be told that he was pissed, and even when their eyes met, he didn’t know what exactly to tell him. “Come on, Diego. Let’s go…” Brian broke his silence, and then he made his way out of the ward after one last look at the men in pain. He walked silently, following the Doctor who didn’t even care to look back. Brian had to walk as fast as he could the moment he saw the Doctor walking toward another hallway. Diego followed at once, but he was reminded of how weak his bones were getting. The Doctor walked into the emergency ward and left the door open.Brian joined him inside at once, turning his eyes toward the right corner of the large room. The man they had come to see lay on a stretcher, badly injured with his chest moving up and down. If I may ask…” His voice was low, yet his curiosity kept lingering in his wide eyes.Diego cleared his throat, turning to take a glance at Brian before he spoke. “They work for us, Doctor. The incident occurred in our site…” “Oh…” The Doctor switched his countenance in haste, but it was hard to really tell what he was thinking.First, he moved his gaze to Brian, staring at him as though he was attempting to read his mind.By the time he returned his gaze to the Concierge, there was a look of annoyance in his eyes, sparking slowly. “You are the reason why that young man is fighting for his life, Sir…” He fired shots of accusation with his eyes, staring deep into the Concierge’s orbs. “How could you?” He took a deep breath, showing a lingering disapproval.“How c
