The next morning, steam drifted lazily from the bathroom attached to the ward as Serena stepped out, a towel wrapped snugly around her torso, damp hair tumbling over her shoulders.

“Rosalie,” she called, adjusting the towel and sitting on the vanity stool. “Come help me apply that balm. My back feels weird again, even though the application instructions say to apply it only once at night.”

Since that Elijah Langston had fed her something strange the previous day, she no longer felt any pain in her back, so she couldn't mentally gauge the progress of the cuts on her back.

Rosalie entered with her usual half-amused, half-annoyed expression, the bottle in one hand. “Yeah, yeah. Hurry up and come over.”

Serena did, and Rosalie lifted the towel slightly to expose her upper back.

Rosalie froze in shock and couldn't believe what she was seeing. She could only exclaim, “What… the actual—Sister?”

Her voice jumped.

Serena sighed tiredly. “What now? Hurry up and just apply. I have to be at wor

Grace Ainsworth was dressed in all black that morning, a veil covering the upper part of her face as she made her way out of the main building of the Ainsworth mansion. The butler who was standing outside hurried forward and told her in a polite tone, “Madam, Anthony Lancaster is here.”She simply waved him off and walked toward the Rolls-Royce Phantom parked in front of the mansion when Anthony appeared from the side. His face was twisted with rage as he began to say, “Grace, how dare you reject all of my calls? I’ve been calling since last night. Those at the first gate didn’t even let me in until this morning.” He clenched his fist.Grace finally turned her head, just enough for the faint curve of her lips to be visible beneath the veil. Her voice was cool, almost bored. “Let me remind you that you’re not talking to one of your whores, Anthony. You can be thrown out.”“You!” He gritted his teeth, his eyes turning red. “My family agreed to settle you with 40% of our initial sales o

Heavy boots pounded the ground as the six security guards rounded the corner at full speed, responding to Lilian's report of an “intruder.”They spotted Elijah’s back as he walked calmly toward the elevator and began to shout.“Hey! You there! Stop right there! Don't even think of taking another step,” one barked.Another added with a fierce expression, “You’re trespassing on a restricted floor—hands where I can see them!”They charged as a group, ready to pounce on the man when he paused mid-step and slowly turned his head to them. The instant his face came into view, the guards froze as if lightning had struck them. Their bodies stiffened and they even forgot how to breathe as they trembled uncontrollably. One of the guards, who was bald-headed, parted his lips in horror and almost cried like a child. “B—Boss…? It's you.”Before Elijah Langston could even respond, they collapsed together in a chaotic thud, dropping to their knees so hard the noise echoed down the entire hallway. T

Lilian’s glare sharpened the moment Elijah spoke her name, and she snapped her head back like a furious cat bristling at an uninvited touch.“Who do you think you are to ask me what I’m doing here?” she barked, her voice rising through the hallway. “This is Crescent Technologies, not your backyard. I go wherever I want.”Elijah merely shook his head at her outburst. Of course she would start this way.Her face flushed with resentment—not the petty annoyance of the moment, but a deeper humiliation still festering from the last time they met. It was written all over her expression. How could she not be furious? This was the same man… the same ordinary-looking nobody who had dared reject her offer to be her boyfriend. She, the five-time “Best Looking Model” of Brooklyn Heights, had descended from her pinnacle to select him, only for him to look her in the eyes and say, “I’m not interested.”And then… the greater humiliation. Her father had shown up and bowed before this same man. Her f

The atmosphere in the CEO’s office felt different from the chaos outside—quiet, dignified, and humming with a subtle authority that came with the highest floor of Crescent Technologies.Elijah Langston was comfortably seated in an executive chair, and Nancy Falkner stood by his side, her tablet tucked under one arm as she pointed to the holographic diagrams floating above the desk, her voice soft and steady.“…and once we finalize the circuit stabilization of these receivers, the last stage will be handled by the R&D wing. After that, the Quantum-Holo interface will go into mass production. If everything stays on schedule, Crescent Technologies will announce the new technological lineup in exactly seven days, Boss.”She finished her explanation, then reached for the ceramic teapot. Steam drifted in the air as she gently refilled Elijah’s cup, her movements graceful.Elijah Langston nodded, fingers tapping lightly against the armrest.“Good work,” he said. “Charles told me you can han

Instant whispers began to travel through the crowd, as they couldn't believe their eyes. This couldn't be true... It couldn't be what they were thinking, right?“Is that… really him? Madam Falkner just called him ‘boss.’ Even the enforcer is showing him respect.”“The new CEO? Are you sure about that?”“The one the founder said would make Crescent Technologies unshakeable?”“But he looks—he looks like some ordinary guy…”“The founder himself came a few days ago to prepare the building for the new CEO’s arrival… that means—that means we’re finished. If he's the new CEO, are we not doomed?”“This is bad… really bad… Heaven save us… The vice president just bowed. Madam Falkner just bowed!”Dozens felt their throats close and didn't dare mutter anything, while others felt their knees wobble, regretting being on duty that day.But Elijah Langston didn’t even spare them a look. His calm gaze rested only on Nancy Falkner, who was in front of him.“You don’t have to go this far,” Elijah said

  • Chapter 228

From the main building, the large glass doors opened, and Nancy Falkner stepped out.Her professional attire was immaculate, hair perfectly styled, makeup subtle yet flawless. She was beautiful, undeniably so, but even in her perfection, she did not rival the Brooklyn Heights goddess, Serena DiLaurentis.Behind her, the head of security strode, massive and imposing, muscles taut under his uniform, baton in hand, and flanked by a dozen elite guards, each obviously stronger and far more disciplined than the group surrounding Elijah. The crowd of guards around Elijah froze for a split second at the sudden appearance of the vice president. Then, in unison, their voices erupted, not too loud but audible enough.“Madam Falkner is here!”“Madam Falkner is finally here!”“Haha... This brat is dead for sure today!”“How dare he call Madam Falkner by her name just now! He had a death wish right from the start.”“He even pretended to be CEO—he even dared to pretend to summon Madam Falkner. The
