Chapter 5: Chaos and Collection
last update2026-07-01 00:03:04

Pandemonium broke out in the grand ballroom. Guests whispered furiously, casting looks of absolute disgust at Min-ah, who was now sobbing on the floor. Her expensive silk dress was already stained from her tears, and she looked nothing like the elegant bride-to-be she had pretended to be just minutes ago.

"This is a lie! It’s all a fake!" Min-ah shrieked, her voice cracking as she crawled toward Director Kang. She tried to grab his hand, but he violently slapped her arm away, stepping backward as if she were a toxic snake.

"Get away from me, you fake bitch!" Director Kang roared, his chest heaving as he glared down at her. His carefully built reputation as a brilliant corporate executive was dissolving right in front of the city's most powerful investors.

Furious, Kang spun around and pointed a trembling, angry finger at Jin. "Security! Why are you standing there? Grab him! Beat him until he deletes that trash, and throw him off the balcony!"

Three burly security guards in dark suits immediately stepped forward, their faces cold as they surrounded Jin.

Jin did not flinch. He did not raise his fists or try to run. Instead, he simply looked at the security chief, a tall man named Captain Park who had a scar running down his jaw.

Ding!

The System's glowing red ledger instantly appeared above Captain Park’s head, flashing brightly in Jin’s eyes.

[ TARGET DETECTED: PARK JAE-HOON (SECURITY CHIEF) ]

[ MORAL DEBT: Frame-up assistance, accepting bribes from Director Kang. ]

[ FINANCIAL DEBT: 50,000,000 Won stolen directly from Director Kang’s personal security budget through fake invoice billing. ]

[ HIDDEN TRUTH UNLOCKED: Target is secretly planning to resign next week and has already booked a one-way flight to Switzerland using the embezzled funds. ]

A cold smile played on Jin's lips. He looked directly into Captain Park's eyes as the man reached out to grab his collar.

"Captain Park," Jin said, his voice carrying clearly over the noisy room. "Before you put your hands on me, you might want to explain to Director Kang why you bought a one-way ticket to Switzerland for next Tuesday. And maybe you can explain what you did with the fifty million won you skimmed from his personal security account."

Captain Park froze. His hand stopped just inches from Jin's chest. His face turned pale, and his confident posture completely vanished. "What... what nonsense are you talking about?"

"It’s not nonsense," Jin said smoothly, taking a slow step forward. "The fake invoices for the security upgrades last month? The ones you signed off on? The real cost was thirty million, but you billed Director Kang eighty million. The extra fifty million is sitting in your private offshore account right now."

Director Kang’s head snapped toward his security chief. His eyes went wide with a whole new level of fury. "Park... is this true?"

"No! Sir, he's lying! He's just a crazy clerk!" Captain Park stammered, sweating profusely under his collar.

"If I'm lying, why don't you show Director Kang your bank app right now?" Jin asked calmly. "Or better yet, check your email. I believe the digital ledger of those fake invoices has just been sent to the board of directors."

The other two security guards looked at each other, then slowly backed away from Captain Park. They didn't want to get dragged into a major financial crime.

Chaos erupted again as Director Kang grabbed Captain Park by the collar, completely forgetting about Jin for a moment. "You dared to steal from me? You worthless dog! I paid you to protect me!"

Jin stood back, watching the villains tear each other apart without having to throw a single punch.

Ding!

[ DING! SECONDARY MORAL AUDIT SUCCESSFUL. ]

[ CONFLICT ESCALATION ACHIEVED. ]

[ REWARD: +15 DAYS LIFESPAN. ]

[ REWARD: $1,000,000 USD BONUS TRANSFERRED TO HOST'S BANK ACCOUNT. ]

Jin felt another surge of warm, vibrant life force flow into his body. His vision sharpened, and his posture naturally became straight and commanding. He was no longer the beaten, broken "live-in" servant who scrubbed floors for ungrateful people.

He looked at Min-ah, who was staring up at him in sheer terror, and then at Director Kang, who was screaming at his own security chief.

"This is just the beginning of the audit," Jin murmured to himself, turning his back on the chaotic ballroom. He walked out of the luxury hotel, leaving the screaming and crying behind him, ready to build his new empire.

Morning light flooded the living room of the Ahn family residence. Min-ah sat on the edge of the velvet sofa, her eyes glued to the wide-screen television. Beside her, her mother nervously paced back and forth across the rug, clutching a cup of tea with hands that wouldn't stop shaking. Ever since Director Kang vanished after the disastrous summit, their phones had been ringing non-stop with calls from anxious debt collectors and relatives. "Did Kang call you back yet?!" her mother demanded, her voice rising in panic. "He can't just go missing! Who is going to pay off the mortgage interest this month?!" "He turned his phone off," Min-ah muttered, her heart heavy with dread. "He's hiding from the police." "That useless coward!" her mother shrieked, slamming her cup onto the table. "After everything we did for him! We threw out that penniless clerk Jin just so you could be with a billionaire!" Before Min-ah could respond, a loud breaking news chime sounded from the TV. Blaring alarms from the nearby container yard echoed through the glass windows of the dockyard command center. Inside, the air was thick with the sharp smell of cheap coffee and sweat. Papers covered every surface, and two industrial shredders hummed loudly in the corner, eating through stacks of shipping manifests. Captain Park shoved another armful of documents into the teeth of the machine. His hands trembled so violently he could barely hold the paper straight. "Faster, you idiots!" Park barked, turning to his three remaining junior accountants. "If those federal prosecutors pull the server logs before we wipe the physical trail, we’re all going to rot in maximum security!" "They won't need the server logs, Captain." A sharp, calm voice cut through the noise of the shredders. The side entrance slid open, and Jin stepped inside. He didn't look like a man who had just shattered a three-billion-dollar corporate empire single-handedly. His grey suit was immaculate, his hair was

Kang screamed, his voice cracking as he turned on his chief legal counsel, who was trembling near the window. "My data was encrypted on a private military-grade server! How did a penniless clerk get his hands on my personal digital token signatures?!""We don't know, Director," the lawyer stammered, adjusting his glasses with shaking fingers. "The financial authorities are already freezing our domestic corporate accounts. The International Financial Regulatory Association issued a formal warrant for a full asse

  • Chapter 8: Arrogant Bait

Faded yellow streetlights flickered overhead as Jin walked toward the convenience store near his apartment. He was holding a black plastic bag containing a cheap bottle of water and a triangular kimbap. Even though he had millions of dollars sitting in his bank account, his habits hadn't changed overnight. He still wore his oversized black hoodie, worn-out sneakers, and faded jeans. To anyone passing by, he looked like a struggling, stressed-out young man who could barely afford rent. "Well, look who it is," a sharp, familiar voice sneered from the shadows of the alleyway. Jin stopped walking. Min-ah stepped out from under a dripping awning. She had swapped her stunning white engagement gown for a pair of high-end designer sunglasses, a trench coat, and expensive leather boots. Despite her fashionable clothes, her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked exhausted. She stared at Jin’s cheap convenience store bag, and a cruel, mocking smirk slowly spread across her face. "I knew
