[Special Mission: Avenge the Betrayal.]

[Mission Objective: Make Them Regret What They Did to You.]

[Reward: ???]

Xavier stared at the floating screen.

His fingers slowly tightened.

Those words kept replaying in his mind.

The portal closing.

The hunter's smile.

" Hold it back a while, porter. "

He could still remember the monster's claws tearing through his stomach.

He should have died.

Yet here he was.

Alive.

And somehow, he now had a System.

Xavier exhaled.

"Fine."

[Mission Accepted.]

The screen disappeared.

For several seconds, Xavier remained beneath the bridge staring into space.

Then reality suddenly caught up with him.

"Where am I supposed to go?"

He couldn't return to the hospital.

Those hunters had already come looking for him.

And going home wasn't an option either.

If they were willing to track him down at the hospital, his house would be the first place they'd search.

Xavier rubbed his temple.

"Great."

He had no money.

No guild.

No awakened status.

No place to stay.

And now a System wanted him to take revenge on people who could probably kill him with one hand.

A ridiculous thought crossed his mind.

"Maybe I should just disappear."

[Entering a Dungeon is recommended.]

Xavier blinked.

"A dungeon?"

[Affirmative.]

He stared at the screen.

Then laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because the alternative was sobbing.

"I'm not a hunter."

[Correct.]

"I don't have an Awakened License."

[Correct.]

"Entering a dungeon without authorization is illegal."

[Correct.]

Xavier's smile disappeared.

"And you are still telling me to go?"

The System remained silent.

Xavier sighed.

Of course.

He looked down at his hands.

They were still shaking slightly.

He remembered the dungeon.

The helplessness.

The certainty that he was about to die.

He didn't want to experience that again.

It's not that he was all that particular about revenge.

But...

He has always wanted to live a different life.

A better life.

To not live as the bullied porter anymore.

To maybe live as a normal awakened.

Nothing special, just to be happy.

And for the first time in his life, he had been given a chance to change his fate.

He didn't understand the System.

He didn't know why it had chosen him.

But he knew one thing.

He wasn't going to let this chance slip away.

Xavier pushed himself to his feet.

"Fine."

He glanced toward the road.

"I'll enter one."

His first stop was a small equipment shop several streets away.

He kept his head low as he walked.

He didn't want to be recognized.

Especially not with his red eyes.

The shop's owner barely looked up when Xavier entered.

"Need something?"

"Something cheap." Xavier said.

The old man gave him a long look.

"Cheap usually means useless." He scoffed

"I know."

Xavier placed the money he had in his right hand on the counter.

The coins and notes looked painfully small.

The old man counted them.

Then sighed.

"You're going to get yourself killed."

"Probably." Xavier replied.

The man frowned.

"You're not funny."

"I'm not joking."

That earned him another look.

After a moment, the shopkeeper reached beneath the counter.

He brought out a worn sword.

The blade had several scratches along its surface.

The handle was old, but intact.

Xavier picked it up.

It was heavier than he expected.

Xavier looked at the blade.

Then nodded.

"I'll take it."

He also bought a small metal shield.

It was dented and barely worth calling equipment, but it was better than nothing.

Before leaving, Xavier noticed a small black ring sitting inside a glass case.

"What's that?"

The shopkeeper glanced at it.

"Stealth ring."

Xavier's eyes lit up.

"How much?"

The old man named a price.

Xavier stared at him.

"You're joking."

"No." The shopkeeper said.

Xavier looked at the money remaining in his hand.

Then at the ring.

Then back at his money.

He sighed.

He was about walking out when...

[ Recommendation: It is Advised Host gets this Ring.]

Xavier paused.

' This is literally all the money I have left. '

No response from the System.

" Arrghh..." He groans in annoyance.

"Fine."

By the time he left the shop, he had no money left.

A battered sword hung at his waist.

A small shield was strapped to his arm.

And a black ring sat on his finger.

He looked down at it.

"Please be worth it."

The ring pulsed faintly.

[Item Detected.]

Xavier stopped walking.

[ Item: Stealth Ring.]

[ Rank: Uncommon.]

[ Hidden Rank: Unique.]

" Unique!?" Xavier Exclaims loud before quickly covering his mouth.

" Hidden Rank means it's currently Sealed."

[ Removing Seal...]

" Woah! You can do that?"

[ ...Seal Removed.]

[ Item Rank: Unique.]

' I can't believe I bought this for that price.'

[Stealth: Reduces the user's presence by 60%.]

[Duration: 5 minutes.]

[Recovery Time: 30 minutes.]

[ Unique Ability: Disappear.]

[Disappear: Once every 48 hours, the user can completely erase his presence for 10 seconds.]

[During this period, the user cannot be seen, heard, sensed, or detected by conventional or supernatural means.]

[The user's physical body remains unchanged.]

His eyebrows rose.

"Holy Shit!"

" That's Awesome."

[Correct.]

Xavier smiled faintly.

"I guess you can be useful sometimes."

[The System is always useful.]

Xavier smirks.

The dungeon was located inside an old cathedral.

It had appeared three days earlier.

A massive green portal stood where the cathedral's altar had once been.

The seats had been evacuated.

The windows were shattered.

The surrounding area had been sealed off.

Several guards stood outside the perimeter.

Xavier watched from across the street.

The portal shimmered quietly.

Green light spilled through the windows and holes.

An E-Rank dungeon.

Perfect.

At least according to the information he'd gathered.

He waited.

He observed.

He needed a distraction.

None came.

Now he had to take a chance.

When the guards are not looking in the direction of his calculated route.

He waited.

Finally, they looked away, for just a brief moment.

Xavier slipped the black ring tighter around his finger.

[Stealth Ring Activated.]

[Time Left: 4mins 59secs]

His presence seemed to fade.

Not disappear completely.

Just enough.

He crossed the street.

One guard turned.

Xavier froze.

The man's eyes passed over him.

Then moved away.

Xavier continued walking.

He reached the cathedral.

The green portal hummed before him.

His heartbeat quickened.

He looked over his shoulder.

Nobody was watching.

He pulls out his sword.

For a moment he hesitated.

' Am I doing the right thing? '

Xavier stepped forward.

" Hopefully I don't die."

The moment his body touched the portal, the world changed.

Cold.

That was the first thing Xavier noticed.

The air inside the dungeon was colder than outside.

He stepped forward cautiously.

The cathedral was gone.

Instead, he stood inside a dark stone corridor.

The walls were rough.

Moisture dripped from the ceiling.

A faint green glow illuminated the path ahead.

Xavier tightened his grip around the sword.

"So this is a dungeon."

He had entered dungeons before.

But only as a porter.

This felt different.

He had never actually fought inside one.

Every sound suddenly seemed louder.

A drop of water hit the ground.

Drip.

Xavier froze.

Something moved ahead.

His fingers tightened around the sword.

He slowly raised the shield.

Another sound.

Scrape.

Then silence.

Xavier swallowed.

His breathing increased.

Two small yellow eyes appeared from the darkness.

Xavier's breathing stopped.

A creature slowly stepped into the light.

Small.

Ugly.

Green-skinned.

A crude blade clutched in its hand.

A goblin.

It seemed to not notice him.

It almost passed by him.

[1 Second Left...]

"Huh?"

[Stealth Ring Deactivated...]

"Fuck!.."

The Goblin turned.

Its eyes traced up to Xavier's panicked face.

Xavier stared back.

Neither moved.

Then the creature's lips slowly curled upward.

It had sensed his fear.

Xavier's grip tightened around the sword.

"Shit."

The goblin lunged.

They were cunning creatures, and their habit of mocking their prey with laughter was well documented. But this?Staying hidden while systematically surrounding their enemies? That was different. He had encountered Kobolds before. They usually relied on their numbers, rushing their targets and overwhelming them through sheer aggression.
