“You can go in, Mr Harris.” Bernard let out a fresh sigh as he walked through the giant doors of Peak Hills Law Firm. After his charade the previous day at Amber’s house, he had promised himself to keep his anger in check. As he had expected, his return immediately drew curious glances from some of their colleagues, but none of them was brave enough to ask the question. Why return? Why return to a place where you were degraded and embarrassed. A place where your value was no longer worthy. The very place where you had been trampled on. Bernard felt the same. One look at Maria’s irritated face made Amber decide to hide the hospital scene from her. She had just walked into the house and, after exchanging pleasantries, she made for her room. Amber switched on her laptop as soon as she walked in. Now was not the time to get tired of seeking jobs. Vince’s reaction earlier showed how vulnerable he was in the past, and she knew damn well he might not help her at all.Amber searched through her bag for her AirPods and was about to put them on when she heard Maria’s curses.
