Chapter two

Making his way to the college square, Jeff dialled Ashley's number. Hoping she'll pick up his call.

He called the first time. Her phone rang but no answer. He called the second and third time. The same result.

When he called the fourth time, Ashley's number became unreachable. This only got Jeff scared and worried.

"Ashley! Why isn't she picking up? I hope what the guys said isn't true?" He tried again the fifth time. Racing for the college square.

"Sorry, the number you're calling is switched off," control stated.

"Damn it! Her phone is switched off," Jeff groaned frustratedly. Keeping his phone in his pocket and rushing to the square.

He's about getting there when he noticed the crowds there. They were chanting the words 'Say Yes' loudly.

Jeff 's heart sank with fear. He just wished and prayed that his friends were joking about what they claim they saw.

"Phill and Mike love to play pranks sometimes with me. I'm sure this is one of it. They must have seen someone else and assumed it's Ashley," he assumed.

Jeff struggled to make his way pass the crowds there. He needed to see for himself, who it was they were chanting for.

"Please, excuse me please," he pleaded with some of the students there. But none heed to his plea.

"Hey! Watch it asshole!" A guy in the crowds insulted Jeff .

"I'm sorry," Jeff apologized and tried to pass the guy without disturbing.

The guy gets infuriated and pushed Jeff hard. "I'm talking and you're still moving. Are you insane?"

The force the latter used in pushing Jeff , helped the scared and worried lover to the front.

Jeff wanted to apologize to the fellow one more time, but is left shocked when his eyes fell on Ashley.

She was standing in the middle of the square, while a handsome and rich young man, knelt right before her.

"Ashley?" Jeff called abjectly. Gazing at the woman of his dream, standing before a man who's trying to take her away from him.

"Say Yes! Say Yes!" The students kept on chanting out to Ashley.

Jeff hears this from the students. He glanced at their faces then back at Ashley. She was looking confused.

Seeing her like that, Jeff felt she was being pressurized by the voices of everyone.

"Ashley, don't listen to them. You can do this," he encouraged quietly. Hoping she'll do the right thing for their relationship.

Ashley gazed at the handsome rich fellow and closed her eyes with fear. Then she gave her answer to his proposal. "No," she said.

When Jeff heard this, he felt relieved and happy. Students around grumbled on her response.

To their greatest surprise, Ashley screamed out loudly. "No way I'm going to turn down your proposal. Yes! Yes! Yes!" She screamed happily and jumped.

The rich fellow laughed out excitedly. The students all cheered on hearing her answer.

All rejoiced, except for Jeff . He couldn't believe his ears when Ashley screamed out the word Yes.

He stood there shocked, watching how the rich fellow, placed his diamond ring on Ashley's ring finger.

Ashley screamed happily and jumped on him. "I love you Trent," she confessed happily.

"Love?" Jeff gazed in horror. He felt his heart shattering in bits at Ashley's confession.

All his dreams of being with her, making her his wife, giving her the life of a queen... Everything came crumbling before him.

Ashley and the rich dude, kissed in front of everyone to show their love.

Students cheered for them and called them the latest couple in town. "Congratulations!" They chanted out.

Jeff stayed frozen like a statue. All he could see was his heart shattering into pieces.

Just then, Phill, Joe and Mike showed up to find Jeff . They had gone after him after he dashed out of the room.

They thought they'll meet him on the way, but didn't. They arrived at the college square, looking for him.

"Where's he? Didn't he make it here or what?" Joe asked, looking around from behind the students.

Mike wanted to move to a different side when he spotted Jeff at the front. "There he is. Jeff !" He called out.

But Jeff was far gone to even hear his friends calling out to him. All he could hear were the voices of those celebrating his girlfriend's choice.

This made Jeff angry. "No! This can't be happening. This must be a joke," he declared furiously.

Unable to accept this drama unfolding before him, Jeff walked straight towards Ashley and her new lover.

Mike, Joe and Phill see this. "He's going to meet them!" Mike announced to both Joe and Phill.

"Yes! That bitch will get what's coming," Phill said excitedly.

Ashley and her rich lover were getting all cozy with each other when Ashley felt herself being pulled back immediately.

"Goodness!" She exclaimed in fear. Thinking she was being attacked.

"Who the hell are you?" Ashley's rich boyfriend roared at Jeff .

Ashley heard this. She turned over to look and saw Jeff . She was angry. "Jeff ? What the hell?"

"Jeff ? So this is the fool that tried to impress my girl with his wretchedness," the rich fellow laughed mockingly.

"Ashley is not yours. She's mine! Take your filthy riches and leave this place!" Jeff roared at the rich young man.

The whole students wondered what was happening between the three of them.

The rich man scoffed angrily at Jeff . Finding his presence annoying.

Jeff faces Ashley. She glared at Jeff angrily. Jeff tried to take hold of her hand, but she rebuked him.

"Don't touch me!" She yelled and pushed Jeff 's hand away from hers.

Jeff is still amazed by her attitude towards him. He wondered what happened to the Ashley that fell deeply in love with him.

The Ashley that would hug him and recite the three beautiful magic words in his ears with so much love. What happened to her?

 "Ashley, what's going on here? Someone proposed to you and you said Yes? What happened to our love?" He questioned her.

Ashley groaned at Jeff . "Enough with this love nonsense Jeff ! I hate hearing that word from your mouth" Ashley sparked.

Jeff is stunned to hear this from her. He still couldn't believe her words. Students watching, were amazed by this drama unfolding.

Ashley groaned and rubbed her face in annoyance. She sighed and said to Jeff , not minding the eyes watching them.

"I'm sorry that everything is going this way Jeff , but I just can't continue with this fake relationship with you. I can't continue," Ashley admitted.

"Fake relationship? Are you calling our love and everything we shared together fake?" Jeff gazed at Ashley.

Irritated, Ashley stretched out her right hand at Jeff and stopped him immediately.

"Enough! Just don't talk about that false relationship, because we both shared nothing in common. No girl in her right mind will look at our relationship and call it real," Ashley stated.

Students gasped and laughed at Jeff . Mocking and making jest at him because of what Ashley said.

Ashley's boyfriend laughed at Jeff mockingly. Standing close to Ashley and wrapping his right arm around her waist.

"A guy who has no job or can't even get himself a job! No girl in her right sense will marry you. You are too poor and useless," Ashley described rudely.

Jeff could just hear the voices of the students, laughing at him mockingly. This only broke Jeff deeply, because of what Ashley was saying.

"I was just managing you all this time. Bearing with you and your so called dream of a happy family," Ashley scoffed mockingly.

"Honestly, I never knew that a lowlife like you had such a big dream of starting a family with a perfect job and live in a big mansion. It's so hilarious," Ashley laughed at Jeff .
