Olivia’s voice turned icy again when she turned away from Samuel and faced Jason.

She raised her voice so that not only Jason but every guest in the living room could hear her clearly.

She began bitterly, “Are you happy now? Do you feel satisfied after ruining Samuel’s mood tonight? Look around you. We were having a wonderful evening, celebrating Samuel Tennyson’s achievement, and everyone was enjoying themselves.”

“And then y-you… you had to roll in here, dragging your crippled body across the floor and pretending you have any right to call yourself my husband.”

At that moment, laughter spread through the guests. A good percentage of them laughed, and the few others who didn't laugh were just too disappointed at Jason.

Jason clenched his jaw, the muscles twitching as Olivia kept talking.

“You have never been capable of anything, Jason. Not a single thing,” she said. “Tell me, can you even afford to buy a simple body lotion for the woman you claim is your wife? Can you even afford that much? Do you think being tied to you is anything but shame for me? No. You are a disgrace, a humiliation I’ve carried for too long.”

The guests kept staring at Jason, waiting to hear him speak in response to Olivia.

Olivia didn’t stop there. She gestured toward Samuel proudly. “And here you are, clinging to the title of husband when the truth is, you are nothing beside a man like Samuel. Do you know what it means to be a real man? A real man is someone who can protect, who can provide, who can stand in front of his wife proudly. Samuel has all of that and more. And you?” She let out a cold laugh. “You can’t even stand.”

Jason’s fists tightened on the arms of his wheelchair. His teeth ground together, but he held himself back.

Olivia turned back to the guests, her voice taking on a proud, almost reverent tone.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you why we are here tonight. We are here to celebrate Samuel Tennyson’s great achievement, an achievement worthy of recognition across the whole of Mid Country. He is not just a man of wealth and business power, not just a man with political influence. No... He has accomplished something beyond that today, something no one else has managed to achieve. Samuel was the first in the whole Mid Country to set his eyes upon the Divine Finger.”

The moment the words left her lips, Jason’s brows drew together. His eyes narrowed in shock.

“Divine Finger?” he repeated calmly.

After hearing Olivia call the name, ‘Divine Finger,’  the name alone drew reverence from them.

Jason’s thoughts twisted. He was the Divine Finger. He was the one who had shaken the world with miracles. Yet here, before him, his own wife was speaking of the Divine Finger as though he were some distant legend she could only dream of.

She didn’t know. None of them did. Not even Olivia herself knew that the man she spat on daily, the man she called crippled and worthless, was the very one they all worshiped.

But something was more troubling, he had never met Samuel Tennyson face to face.

Someone was lying. An impostor was moving around town, using his name and claiming to be the Divine Finger.

Jason's eyes darkened.

Olivia’s voice cut sharply through his thoughts, dragging him back. “Yes, Jason, you heard me right. The Divine Finger, the great healer, the legend himself. Samuel not only set his eyes upon him, but Divine Finger personally shook his hand and promised to hold a feast in his honor tomorrow morning. Imagine that! The Divine Finger recognizing Samuel!”

The guests gasped audibly, nodding as though this was undeniable proof of Samuel’s greatness. Some even began to murmur among themselves in awe.

“Someone set eyes on the Divine Finger?” One guest said.

“Ohh, I wish I was that lucky,” another person commented.

“I’d offer millions of dollars just to see the Divine Finger face to face…”

Jason listened to them murmur. His fists clenched, but his expression was hard to read.

Samuel stepped forward with confidence, his chest puffed out. “And Olivia, you forgot the best part.” He turned to face her, though his words were loud enough for Jason and everyone else to hear. “You forgot to tell them what else the Divine Finger promised me.”

Olivia’s eyes were glowing with admiration. “Oh, Samuel, yes… please, tell them. Tell everyone.”

Samuel’s smile widened. “The Divine Finger promised me that he would help me heal the president’s daughter.”

The room gasped again. Silence fell for a moment before the whispers resumed from excitement and shock.

Jason’s expression was hard but he remained silent.

Samuel spoke with pride in his voice. “Yes, you heard me. The Divine Finger told me himself. He said he is going to heal the president’s daughter. But after that…” Samuel let out a laugh. “He’s going to let people think I was the one who did it. Since I’m a medical doctor from the best school in Mid Country, the president will believe it was my treatment that saved her. And because of that, I’ll get the reward the president promised to whoever heals his daughter.”

Gasps filled the air again. Guests exchanged glances in awe and admiration of how smart Samuel Tennyson was.

Olivia clasped her hands together in front of her chest, her voice was also filled with admiration. “Yes, that’s right. Do you all know what the president promised? He promised that whoever heals his daughter will become the next ruler of this country when his tenure expires, in just two months’ time.”

The room erupted in chatter. Everyone was shocked, awed, some already nodding as though Samuel’s victory was inevitable.

Olivia turned back to Jason with cold eyes. “Do you hear that, Jason? Do you understand? Samuel will soon be president of this country, thanks to the Divine Finger.”

“That is what it means to be a man. That is what it means to be someone worthy. And you? What are you? Nothing. Nothing but a cripple, sitting in a chair, incapable of lifting yourself up, incapable of contributing even a coin to this family.”

Jason shook his head slowly, there was a small, calm smile at the corner of his lips. He looked around at the faces of people who were worshipping blindly, then he turned back at Olivia.

“How sure are you,” he asked, “how sure are you that Samuel really met the Divine Finger?”

Olivia scoffed immediately, rolling her eyes. “The entire world knows about the Divine Finger. He can't be mistaken. His fame stretches across nations, people worship him. And you dare question whether Samuel met him? Everyone knows Samuel has connections, everyone knows he is destined for greatness.”

She paused and looked at Samuel with a smile. And then, she turned her cold eyes towards Jason again.

“And if I… if I ever had the chance to even see the Divine Finger’s face, I would consider myself blessed for life. I would bow to him. I would thank the heavens for granting me that chance.”

Her words hit Jason with irony. She did not know. She could not see it.

She was already standing in front of the Divine Finger, insulting him, spitting on him, scorning him, blind to the truth that the man she dismissed as worthless was the very legend she was speaking of.

Doctors, nurses, and guards stood rooted to the spot, their mouths hanging open as though their very voices had been stolen. Not one of them moved, not one dared to breathe too loudly, because before their very eyes, the impossible had just unfolded.Isabelle Donovan—who had moments earlier been coughing blood, writhing in agony, and tethered to the machines that counted down her fading life—now stood upright. Upright on legs that had been lifeless for so long. Her pale cheeks were flushed with new color, her trembling lips stretched into a disbelieving smile, and tears streamed down her face as she looked at her own hands, then down at her moving feet again.“I… I can walk,” she whispered again, almost as if saying it aloud would make it vanish like a dream. Her voice was trembling, filled with awe and shock in equal measure. “Father… I can walk!”The clipboard a nurse had dropped earlier clattered as it was nudged by her shaking foot, and the sharp sound jolted everyone from their t

His movements were so calm that for a moment, everyone in the room simply stared, waiting to see what he would do.He unscrewed the cap slowly, Then he leaned slightly forward, tilting the bottle toward Isabelle’s lips.“Drink,” Jason said softly, his voice calm and low, as though he were speaking not to a patient on the edge of death but to someone merely weary from a long day.Isabelle’s pale lips parted faintly, her weak body trembling as the cool water touched her tongue.
