The hospital didn’t feel like a hospital anymore because it was filled with armed men in black who stood at every entrance with rifles slung across their chests.

Elena’s hands gripped the steering wheel tighter as she pulled up to the front with her heart hammered although her face stayed calm because she’d be dead before she even reached the door if she showed fear.

A man stepped out from the shadows, rifle aimed directly at her car “Stop right there! Turn around!”

Elena rolled down the window just enough “Please” she said evenly, “I’m here to see Darius Cortez. I heard what happened to him. I’m a… friend.”

The man narrowed his eyes “Friend?” He scanned her quickly because he was suspicious “Who told you to come?”

“I don’t need anyone to tell me” she said softly, “I just want to see if he’s okay”

He hesitated because the name Cortez meant death if handled wrong “Stay right there.” He pressed his earpiece, “Boss, we’ve got a woman here who says she’s a friend of your son.”

  • Sick Beyond the Wounds

The morning light barely made it through the half-drawn blinds when Adrian stepped out of the safehouse. He told her he’d only be gone an hour to “clear a few traces” whatever that meant.Seraphina nodded pretending to understand while also pretending she wasn’t scared every time he walked away. When the door shut behind him and silence rushed in loud, heavy, and uncomfortable she tried to breathe normally but her chest tightened. She gripped the edge of the counter while her reflection in the darkened window looked pale. She whispered “It’s just exhaustion.”Her stomach twisted with a wave of nausea hitting so suddenly she had to lean against the wall though not from fear or from any wound but she couldn’t explain so she slid down the wall until she sat on the floor hugging her knees while her mind raced back to the fire, the chaos, and the running.“Maybe it’s shock” she murmured but the tremor in her hands told another story. The knock on the door made her flinch and her heart leap

  • After the Smoke

The world returned slowly like light bleeding through smoke.Seraphina opened her eyes to muted sunlight filtering through thick curtains. Her body ached, her throat burned, and the faint smell of antiseptic lingered in the air. It took her a moment to understand where she was.The room was quiet, simple—concrete walls softened by the faint hum of machinery somewhere in the distance. A safehouse. Then she saw him.Adrian sat in a chair by the window, one arm bandaged from wrist to elbow, his shirt undone and stained with dried blood. His eyes were hollow—haunted—but when he realized she was awake, the mask cracked just enough for relief to flicker through.Seraphina’s voice came out rough. “You look like hell.”He gave a faint, dry smile. “You should see the other guy.”The silence that followed wasn’t empty—it was heavy, full of everything they hadn’t said, everything they’d almost lost. She tried to push herself upright, wincing as the bruises on her ribs protested. He was beside he

  • The Breaking Point

The sound of gun fire came first in a sharp, relentless manner , echoing through the concrete halls like thunder which was trapped underground. It sounded very close.Seraphina froze and her blood pressure and pulse were spiking. She knew that sound and that rhythm was familiar too. It was not random chaos but It was precisie, controlled and deliberate. It was an “Adrian’s kind of chaos”.“Adrian!” she screamed in a jittery and hopeful voice, after some hours of silence. For a moment, She did not hear anything nor saw anyone , just the pounding of her heart and the flickering bulb. Then she heard footsteps approaching closer in a fast and Purposeful manner. Then, The door crashed open.Adrian stood there, chest heaving, and his shirt was stained with blood . His eyes quickly scanned through the room, with his gun raised to counter any opposition. He froze when he saw her.“Seraphina,” he breathed, his voice breaking around her name. She let out a trembling sound which was h

  • Seraphina’s Defiance

The room smelled like a mixture of rust and damp air and it felt like a place that was not designed to hold people but only ghosts. Seraphina sat tied to a chair with aching wrists and her eyes were burning from the dim light that flickered from a single bulb which was hanging in the room. Several Hours had passed and it seemed it was changing into something shapeless and quite unexplainable. But surprisingly ,she did not cry, Not even once.Cortez felt afraid and this made him to be silent. At worst ,he felt defiant. When he walked in, his expression carried that smooth calm of a man who was immersed in the thoughts of victory as he had a feeling that he had already won. “You have been quiet,” he said, circling her slowly with a warm hug and he further remarked : “Most people would scream by now.”Seraphina tilted her head slightly . With a low but sharp voice , she replied : “Most people are not me. I am different. ”That reply made him to laugh from him in a short and

  • Elena's Confessions

The message had been playing in Elena’s head for hours. She had seen the report on the news and her world had started spinning again just like it always did when Adrian’s name appeared in the chaos. She sat in her living room with her lights off and hands trembling around a half-empty glass of water while her reflection in the dark TV screen looked foreign with tired eyes and a pale skin like a woman haunted by choices she could never undo. When her phone buzzed again but she hesitated before answering “Gaius?” Her voice cracked slightly.“Mrs. Hart” he said quietly with his tone controlled and professional as always but there was fatigue and maybe pity “I didn’t expect you to call.”“I didn’t expect to either.”There was a pause and that kind that stretched between guilt and pride.Elena took a breath “You’re Seraphina’s lawyer, right?”“Yes”“She’s still missing?”He hesitated “We have leads but nothing solid.”Elena closed her eyes. The guilt pressed harder. “And Adrian?”There was

  • Seraphina’s Prison

The first thing Seraphina felt was cold. Her wrists ached when the metal cuffs cut into the tender skin just enough to remind her she couldn’t move and as she blinked her vision blurred. When her eyes finally adjusted and she saw where she was, a vast warehouse that was empty except for her chair, a few stacked crates, and a single camera on a tripod in front of her.Her heart kicked hard in her chest while she tried to steady her breathing slow even and then a voice crackled through the intercom smooth and casual as if this was a conversation over wine “Good morning, Miss Doyle.”She froze at the sound of the voice. It was Cortez. Her stomach twisted “What do you want?” she said with her voice trembling only once before she caught it.“What I’ve always wanted” he replied with a tone that held quiet arrogance as the kind of man who never needed to raise his voice to make you listen, “But today, I’m interested in something else.”There was silence and then a faint buzz from the interc
