002. THE UNKNOWN HELPER.

"Leave my granddaughter and I will give you ten million dollars, right here, right now!"

There was a deafening silence in the room as all the guests waited impatiently for Dominic's reply. It almost broke his heart to see that even his wife's parents were eagerly waiting to see if he would take the offer. Though what was he expecting, since he got married to Ciara, neither of them had shown him an ounce of love. Especially her mother.

He knew if he decided to leave Ciara, she would probably be the happiest of them all, but he wasn't ready to give her that luxury. "Wow look at all your faces. Did you really think I was considering it?" He finally broke the silence, a smile on his face, even though he wasn't exactly in a cheerful mood. "Sorry to disappoint you all but, I'm not leaving my wife." He declared boldly and the old woman frowned.

"Then get the hell out of my sight!" she spat angrily.

If it was possible for them to drive him out, Dominic was sure that they would have done that a long time ago. But as unloving as they were towards him, they still had high values for the words of Ciara's grandfather whose last wish was for him to stay married to Ciara, so he was left alone, but no one would ever acknowledge him as a son- in- law.

"Gram Fallon, please try to reconsider–"

"Dominic, why do you always have to be this way?!" His wife shot at him, standing between he and her grandmother. "Gram says she doesn't have any money to give to you so just drop it already!"

Dominic knew his wife didn't hate him, but he knew she love him either. Probably because he was poor, so she felt embarrassed to be his wife.

"I mean even if she does lend it to you, how do you intend on paying it back?" His brother -in -law said, mockery evident in the tone of his voice. "I mean you would have to work for at least two years- no, three!- before you'll ever get such a amount."

"Three years?" Ciara's cousin pitched in. "More like five."

"I guess it was a mistake on my part to think that you would have human sympathy." When Dominic said that, a gasp of shock could be heard throughout the room. "You're way too big for that." With balled fist and gritted teeth, he stormed out of the room ignoring the calls of his wife.

As Dominic entered the hospital grounds, he marched straight to the cashier to see if he could plead with her to extent the payment deadline by a day or two. Where he would get the money, he was still unsure but at least it would give him a little more time to venture other options.

"Mr Shay, we've been looking for you all morning." She said as he reached her table.

"What, you have? Why?" Fear had gripped his heart as he heard her statement and he began to imagine the worse. "Did something happen to Mrs Jameson? Is it because I couldn't get the money on time? Is she okay?"

"She's okay sir. The doctor just needs your signature so she can carry on with the surgery."

"Surgery? She agreed to operate on her without payment?"

"No sir, the payment was made earlier this morning."

"What? By who?"

"No idea sir, but the man said he was doing it on your behalf."

Dominic was stunned, who was the mysterious person that would willingly put down five million dollars for a complete stranger? He definitely needed to find out who the person was. But first, his priority was Mrs Jameson. "So, I just have to see the doctor?"

"Yes sir."

"Alright thanks."

Dominic was still trying to figure out who the mystery person was but after two hours of ransacking his brain, he still had nothing.

He didn't have any friends nor did he have a family, or at least that was what he told himself, but the bottom line was that he didn't have anyone that could do such a thing for him. And neither did Mrs Jameson.

The surgery was scheduled to last for ahout five hours and the doctor had advised him to go home and come back when it was over but he decided to stay. It wasn't like his wife would be happy to see him, especially not after he had just insulted her grandmother at her seventy fifth birthday party.

It wasn't the first time the Fallon family would subject him to such ridicule, he was already more than used to it. In fact, their whole two years of matrimony was just Ciara mostly avoiding him, and her family looking down on him and trash talking him. He didn't know why he got so upset this time, maybe the thought that Mrs Jameson could die had something to do with it.

After the unfortunate death of his mother, Dominic had become an orphan, but he was too old so he couldn't go to an orphanage. Instead he was left to fend for himself, managing to feed himself with the little odd jobs he found. It was amidst his struggles that he met Mrs Grace Jameson.

Grace Jameson lived a simple but contented life with her husband, the old couple were never blessed with children and it was something that she was always saddened about. After the death of her husband, she was left with no one, no family and no friends, living an extremely boring life all by herself. Then she met Dominic and decided to take him in after hearing his sad backstory.

For six whole years, it was just he and Mrs Jameson. She filled the spot of a mother in his life and he filled the spot of a son in hers. She clothed him, fed him, gave him a roof over his head and even sent him to highschool and college. She did all that and never for once asked for anything in return. Whenever he said something about being a burden to her, she would always reply him by saying; "Can a child ever be a burden to their parents?"

That was true, but Dominic wasn't her child, and so he knew deep in his heart that he had to do something to repay her for her unfading kindness.

He felt someone come up behind him and Dominic knew he was no longer alone. Turning to face the person that had invaded his alone time he was shocked to see the face of someone he never thought he would see again.

"Hello, young master."
