2. Grandfather's condition

Felix rides with Clarita in her luxury sedan. Clarita takes Felix to the large hospital in the center of Aberfoth.

"Is my grandfather being treated here?" asked Felix when they arrived.

Clarita simply nodded, then took Felix to the top floor of the hospital.

Felix soon arrived at the hospital's VVIP ward, seeing as how there was only that one room on that floor.

"Your grandfather is inside, Mr. Felix."

Felix immediately entered the room in question before seeing an old man with his pale face closed.

"Grandpa ...."

Felix froze right beside the old man, his eyes staring intently at the face that had once looked dignified but now looked weak and helpless.

"How could a Dalbert Garvin end up like this?" Felix was full of disbelief.

Dalbert Garvin was the leader and founder of the Garvin Group business empire, a well-known name in the city of Aberfoth, and the most influential figure there.

Who would have thought that a figure who could make everyone reluctant and even afraid when hearing his name could now only lie down, unable to do anything?

"Clarita, come in."

"What is it, Mr. Felix?"

"Tell me, when did my grandfather fall ill like this?" Felix asked.

"A few months ago, Mr. Felix. I kept trying to contact you, but I never managed to do so."

Clarita also explained that she had often come to the university with the intention of meeting Felix in person, but it was only now that she had succeeded.

"My folly," Felix muttered.

Felix certainly remembered that in the last few months he had been busy with a lot of part-time work in order to surprise Anne, which in the end had been in vain.

"Damn it, my grandfather is in this condition, and I'm busy thinking about the happiness of a woman who's letting me down. What kind of grandson am I?"

Felix massaged his sore forehead. He really felt bad for his grandfather, the only person in the Garvin family who cared about him.

Felix had indeed grown up without parents; both of his parents died in an accident when he was very young. This made Felix not remember having many memories with them.

The only memory Felix remembers of his parents is how the extended family suddenly treated him differently after their passing.

His uncles, aunts, and cousins treated Felix as if he wasn't part of the family, and this happened from the time Felix was a child to adulthood.

Felix remembers that three years ago, right after he graduated from high school, his grandfather suddenly made him the main heir of the Garvin family. This made his uncles, aunts, and cousins intensify their hatred, making Felix fed up and forced to leave the house regardless of his position as the main heir.

"What about my uncles, aunts, and cousins? What do they think about Grandpa's critical condition?" Felix asked Clarita.

Clarita hesitated for a moment, then said, "Maybe I'm wrong, but all I see on their faces is an expression of happiness that they're trying to hide."

Felix clenched his fingers tightly. "So the inheritance is the only thing on their minds?"

"They also tried to set up appointments with me several times to discuss transferring the ownership of the Garvin Group as well as each subsidiary," Clarita said.

"So, how did you respond?" asked Felix angrily.

"I was Mr. Dalbert's personal assistant, entrusted with his will and legacy. There is only Mr. Felix's name on it, so I will only discuss it if you ask me to."

Felix breathed a sigh of relief. He really didn't want to see his grandfather's estate fall into the hands of greedy people like them.

Not content with just continuing to treat him badly until Felix decided to leave home three years ago, now they even felt happy when they saw his grandfather fall ill. From any point of view, they did not deserve what they had always dreamed of.

"Good, don't let them get a penny of the inheritance," Felix said seriously.

Clarita smiled slightly before saying, "So, are you willing to accept the position of heir apparent that you left behind?"

Felix looked deeply into his grandfather's face and then said, "We'll talk about that another time."

Felix eventually decided to spend the night at the hospital, using his grandfather's bedside as a backrest, and fell asleep not long after.

In the morning, Felix asked Clarita to take him away from there; he wanted to go back to his dormitory, and Clarita agreed.

"Is something troubling you, Mr. Felix?" asked Clarita, as Felix looked glum during her car ride.

"No, I just feel like I'm no different from those greedy people for discussing inheritance in front of my grandfather, who was lying helpless," Felix said.

Clarita, with a smile on her face, said, "No, you're different."

It didn't take long for the two of them to arrive in front of Aberfoth University, where Felix had spent most of his time for the past three years.

Felix was about to get out of the car to go back to the dormitory, but Clarita stopped him first.

"Mr. Felix, there's a cafe over there. Why don't we stop by for a moment to continue our pending conversation?"

Felix had seen the cafe in question; it was a cafe not far from Aberfoth University.

"Let's do that," Felix said.

Felix and Clarita ended up having their conversation there, a conversation that every member of the Garvin family craved, while Felix always tried to avoid it because he was too lazy to get into trouble with his extended family.

"So, do you want to?" asked Clarita, straight to the point.

Felix nodded without thinking. There was really no other choice if it was like this, especially since he also couldn't accept it if the Garvin Group that his grandfather had built for decades fell into the hands of people like his extended family.

Clarita nodded in satisfaction, taking something out of her bag before handing it to Felix.

The black card that Felix had always refused to use, Felix took it without hesitation from Clarita's hand.

"100 million dollars is the limit. Is that too little for you, Mr. Felix?"

Felix shook his head slowly. An amount of money that most people wouldn't even be able to earn by working their entire lives was indeed small money for his family.

In the middle of the conversation between Felix and Clarita, a couple entered the cafe who were none other than Reynard and Anne.

Both of them were surprised to realize Felix was there, but they were even more surprised to see the beauty of the woman who was sitting with Felix.

“Damn, does that loser always have beautiful woman acquaintances like her?” muttered Reynard questioningly, instantly wanting to snatch Clarita away, similar to what he did to Anne.

Unlike Reynard, Anne's face turned sour. She really didn't expect Felix to forget her in just one night, whereas she expected him to fall into deep sadness and mourn her for a long time.

"Honey, do you mind if we say hello to your ex?" Reynard asked Anne with a smirk.

Anne just nodded, wondering who Felix was talking to.

"How are you, loser? Are you feeling better after taking my beating last night?"

Felix turned his head to see who was speaking before seeing Reynard and Anne walking towards him.

"What now?" muttered Felix, not expecting them to be there.
