Claire’s gaze swept across the entire house, taking in every corner. She couldn't believe this place truly belonged to the Moonstone family. Her family had always insisted that the Moonstones had been completely destroyed. She had expected Calvin to bring her to a modest home, but this… this was even more luxurious than the Jones family estate.

As her eyes wandered, she suddenly winced. “Ahh, that hurts…” Claire quickly pulled her hand back.

Calvin looked at her, realizing he should have been more careful. “I’ll be gentler,” he reassured her. He slowly took her hand again, carefully wrapping a small bandage around it before finishing his work.

Claire watched Calvin in admiration. After five years, this was their first time meeting again. And she hadn’t expected to grow so close to him so quickly. Unfortunately, her family refused to accept it.

“Thank you, Calvin,” she said softly.

Calvin met her gaze and shook his head. “I should be the one thanking you.” He tidied up the medical supplies before giving her a faint smile. “You were the one who protected me.”

Claire’s sweet smile made Calvin pause for a moment. Then, he sat down beside her. “I need to make sure you don’t have any injuries on your face.”

Calvin knew that a beautiful woman like Claire would naturally care about her face. This was just a simple treatment that he could provide, but he deliberately channeled his inner energy to accelerate the healing process.

Something made him pause and think. He gazed intently at Claire. “Why do you want to marry me, Lady Claire?”

“Because a promise is something that must be kept,” Claire answered without hesitation, her eyes filled with determination. Of course, she would never forget her grandfather’s will.

Calvin nodded. “That is the right choice.”

Claire fell silent. She couldn’t find the right words to respond, but a sense of unease settled in her heart. Something about this situation worried her deeply.

Her gaze shifted back to the luxurious house, and curiosity flickered in her eyes as she turned to Calvin. “Whose house is this?”

“This is my house,” Calvin replied calmly.

Claire furrowed her brows. “Your house?” she repeated, finding it strange. But this time, she chose not to question it further.

Then, another thought came to her mind. She looked at Calvin with concern. “My family… they might do something to you.” She hesitated before exhaling sharply. “I know my family very well. They won’t just let this matter go.”

Calvin responded calmly, without a hint of worry on his face. “I know that, and I’m not afraid.”

“That’s not a problem for me at all.” Calvin gently touched her hand again. “You don’t need to worry,” he reassured Claire.

“It’s better if you get some rest. It will help ease your pain.” Calvin looked away, his expression neutral. “Tomorrow, we will visit your grandfather’s grave.”

Hearing that made Claire feel happy. She missed her grandfather deeply. In the past, they had shared a very close bond. The next day, they stood before a grave. Claire placed a large bouquet of flowers on her grandfather’s tombstone. She gently touched the stone, her voice soft. “Grandfather, I’m here.”

Calvin stood beside Claire, gazing at the grave through his dark sunglasses. “Mr. Jones, I am Calvin Moonstone.”

“I have come to seek your blessing for our marriage, as promised by our two families in the past,” Calvin said quietly.

Claire glanced at Calvin. Hearing him ask for her grandfather’s blessing made her heart race.

She turned back to the grave and whispered, “Grandfather, I will marry Calvin, just as you wished.”

After that, they decided to leave. Claire and Calvin got into the car.

Claire glanced at Calvin, who was sitting beside her. There were many things she wanted to ask him, but she realized this was still a fresh meeting. So, she chose to keep her mouth shut.

She turned her gaze forward and noticed that they weren’t taking the same road as before. “Where are we going?”

Calvin turned to her. “We’re going to buy clothes for you.”

“Clothes?” Claire repeated in surprise.

Calvin nodded. “You left without bringing anything. And I know you’ll need this.”

Claire looked down at her dress, realizing she was still wearing the same outfit. But she shook her head. “That’s not necessary at all. It would only trouble you.”

“This is absolutely necessary,” Calvin reassured her.

He could have asked his subordinates to bring clothes for Claire, but he knew that women had their own preferences.

Seeing no way to refuse, Claire reluctantly nodded, even though she felt uneasy. She knew this would be a burden for Calvin, considering he was just a regular soldier with a modest salary.

“Maybe I’ll just buy two pieces of clothing,” she murmured to herself.

After a while, they arrived at a store. Claire immediately noticed that it was an expensive place, which made her feel uncomfortable. But Calvin insisted they would shop there.

Once inside, Claire carefully browsed through the selection.

“I’ve chosen my clothes,” she said, showing them to Calvin.

The man frowned slightly. “Are you sure that’s all?”

“Yes.” Claire responded without hesitation.

Calvin examined Claire’s choice. They were plain clothes, so simple that he doubted she would even feel comfortable wearing them.

“Claire, you can choose from there, or over there,” he said, pointing toward different sections with better-quality outfits.

But Claire shook her head, holding on to the two pieces she had picked. She was worried Calvin wouldn’t have enough money for the expensive options. “Calvin, I only want these.”

Behind them, a salesgirl stood with her arms crossed, her gaze filled with undisguised disdain.

Noticing Calvin’s ordinary appearance, the salesgirl was convinced that he didn’t have enough money to afford any of the clothes here.

“Sir, the ones you pointed at are extremely expensive. You might not be able to afford them,” she said condescendingly.

“If you’re looking for discounts, you should try that store over there. They have plenty of sales.” The salesgirl pointed to a nearby store, her expression filled with disdain.

Calvin and Claire turned to look at the store she had just indicated. They could immediately tell that the clothes there were of poor quality.

Calvin shook his head. “No need, we’ll shop here.”

Ignoring the salesgirl’s attitude, Calvin continued picking out clothes for Claire.

He had just found a beautiful blue dress, certain that it would suit Claire perfectly. “This would look great on you, Claire.”

But just as he was about to hand the dress to her, the salesgirl swiftly snatched it away.

She grew even more irritated. “Do you even know how expensive this is? I doubt you can afford it.”

Calvin’s gaze turned cold. “I can buy it.”

The salesgirl couldn’t hold back her laughter. She shook her head mockingly. “Are you joking? This dress costs $50,000.”

"You've been picking out clothes for a while now, but you haven't bought anything. Didn't I already tell you it would be better if you left and went somewhere else?" The woman sneered. "Everything here is expensive, and you simply can't afford it."

"Just go and buy something from a street vendor. That would suit your budget better. Don't waste our time." Her sharp gaze was fixed on Calvin. "We're truly tired of dealing with people like you and don't want to waste our time serving someone so insignificant." She spoke with a firm, dismissive tone.

Calvin met her gaze with an icy stare. "I have the money to buy it," he said, his voice unwavering.

The salesgirl let out a frustrated sigh. "You sound so confident, but unfortunately, I don’t believe you." The woman, whose name was Lea, covered her mouth and laughed loudly. But a few seconds later, her expression turned serious. "I know exactly what you are—a fraud!"

Lea's eyes shifted toward Claire, scanning her with a strange glint. "I bet she didn’t just come here to scam people, but also to find another rich man."

Crossing her arms, she gave Claire a condescending glare. "I've dealt with plenty of cheap women like her before."

Hearing those words, Calvin couldn't hold back his anger. He knew how deeply those insults would hurt Claire. "You will take responsibility for what you just said."

Lea simply scoffed, dismissing Calvin’s fury as if it were beneath her. She still wore an arrogant expression. "What should I take responsibility for? I only spoke the truth. You can't even afford the clothes here."

Calvin’s gaze darkened, growing even sharper. He stepped closer, exuding an overwhelming sense of pressure. "I will buy everything in this store."
