It had been two hours since Valerian was locked inside the prison cell. Valerian snatched the neural stimulation unit from the nurse and placed the electrode pads against the patient's temples."Monitor his pulse.""It's still unstable," the nurse said."I know." He adjusted the controls, watching the patient's violent convulsions carefully. Instead of increasing the stimulation, he lowered it to a controlled pulse, then pressed two fingers against the patient's neck, feeling for the rhythm beneath his skin. "Start the magnesium sulfate," he ordered.The nurse immediately administered it. Valerian kept his fingers against the patient's neck, counting silently as the machine delivered another controlled pulse. The patient's body suddenly jerked violently. "Hold him." Two nurses secured his shoulders. Valerian watched the monitor, but the numbers told him nothing he could use. The administered should have eased the spasming by now. It hadn't. "It's not working," the nurse said, glancing at him.

"You seem to know where I can find them," Valerian said, his gaze fixed on the doctor.
