"No, not any that I can think of. I was sent to prison, so I didn't have any enemies outside that I knew of," Valerian replied, his voice calm but firm.

Minerva nodded slowly, though the answer didn't seem to satisfy her curiosity completely.

“But I'm curious,” she began, her eyes drifting toward the paper in his hands, “how do you know so much about illnesses? You seem to understand things that even some experienced physicians struggle with.”

There was genuine astonishment in her voice.

The man refused to speak, his silence only aggravating Valerian's already fraying patience. Valerian's expression darkened as he stepped closer, then suddenly drove his fist across the man's cheek. The impact snapped the stalker's head to the side, blood spilling from his nose as he staggered backward."I'm asking you for the last time. Who sent you?"The stalker struggled to breathe, his swollen face contorted with pain as he pressed a trembling hand against his nose."I'm sorry, but I can't disclose any information—"Before he could finish, Valerian drove his foot into the man's stomach. The stalker doubled over instantly, curling into himself as a strained groan escaped his lips."I'll ask you for the last time. Who sent you?""Roman!" the man finally blurted out, his voice trembling with fear. "It's Boss Roman! Please, spare me. I was only following his orders. I swear, I didn't mean to cause you any trouble. Please forgive me!"Valerian's eyes narrowed at the mention of th

Shortly afterward, Valerian heard the sound of approaching footsteps. He lifted his gaze, and a moment later, the man he had saved at the hospital came into view.Valerian recognized him at once. But unlike before, when Patrick had looked pale and almost lifeless, he now appeared remarkably healthy. The weakness that had once weighed heavily on his features was gone, replaced by a vibrant complexion and a much steadier presence. It was hard to believe that this was the same man who had been convulsing on a hospital bed only hours earlier.Patrick walked toward him and stretched out his hand."I'm Patrick Marl. Nice to meet you, Mr. Valerian."Valerian took his hand and gave it a firm shake."Nice to meet you too, Mr. Marl."Patrick sat down on the sofa opposite him, his expression filled with sincere gratitude."First of all, I owe you my life. I've been fighting this unknown illness for years. I underwent countless tests and full-body scans, visited different hospitals, and consulted

  • CHAPTER 34 - A DEBT OF GRATITUDE

It had been two hours since Valerian was locked inside the prison cell. He sat quietly on the narrow bench, his back resting against the wall as he waited, completely unbothered by the situation. He had underestimated Kaleb. That man's jealousy was worth watching.Valerian had expected resistance, perhaps skepticism or even hostility, but he hadn't anticipated that Kaleb would go as far as having him arrested simply because he had demonstrated knowledge the doctor couldn't comprehend. There was something deeper behind Kaleb's actions, and Valerian intended to find out what it was.Just as he was beginning to reconsider the situation, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the dim hallway.Valerian lifted his gaze.A police officer appeared, his keys rattling against his belt as he approached the cell. He stopped in front of the bars and inserted one of the keys into the lock. The metallic click echoed through the corridor."Come on," the officer said lazily. "Someone has ba

Valerian snatched the neural stimulation unit from the nurse and placed the electrode pads against the patient's temples."Monitor his pulse.""It's still unstable," the nurse said."I know." He adjusted the controls, watching the patient's violent convulsions carefully. Instead of increasing the stimulation, he lowered it to a controlled pulse, then pressed two fingers against the patient's neck, feeling for the rhythm beneath his skin. "Start the magnesium sulfate," he ordered. The nurse immediately administered it. Valerian kept his fingers against the patient's neck, counting silently as the machine delivered another controlled pulse. The patient's body suddenly jerked violently. "Hold him." Two nurses secured his shoulders. Valerian watched the monitor, but the numbers told him nothing he could use. The administered should have eased the spasming by now. It hadn't. "It's not working," the nurse said, glancing at him.

  • CHAPTER 32 - Veyronic Seizure

"You seem to know where I can find them," Valerian said, his gaze fixed on the doctor. "So where can I find them?"Dr. Kaleb didn't answer. He simply turned and headed out of the office, his footsteps carrying him into the hallway.Valerian followed without hesitation, falling into step beside him.If he wanted to force the truth out of Kaleb through more aggressive means, he could have. He already knew the doctor was withholding information, and Valerian was well aware of how to make people surrender the answers he sought. But he chose not to; this wasn't the place for that.Kaleb was connected to Minerva, and despite his impatience, Valerian had no intention of destroying a potential opportunity simply because the doctor was being difficult. There were better ways to get what he wanted. The two men continued down the polished corridor, their footsteps echoing faintly against the marble floor. Nurses and hospital staff moved around them, occasionally glancing in their direction befor

  • CHAPTER 31 - THE SEVEN INGREDIENTS

Kaleb's face twisted with rage, the composure he had maintained throughout the conversation finally beginning to fracture."Are you trying to insult me, Mr. Valerian?" he demanded, his voice sharp with indignation.Valerian, however, remained completely unfazed. A cold smirk slowly appeared on his lips as he leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed steadily on the doctor."I'm not trying to insult you, Doctor Kaleb. You're simply seeing this the wrong way," Valerian replied calmly. "As an assistant to the head doctor of this hospital, you shouldn't downgrade yourself like this."Kaleb's jaw tightened."What exactly do you want me to do?" he snapped. "Lie to you and pretend that I can treat something I cannot?"Valerian's face betrayed nothing."Doctor Kaleb, you know what Nythra Venom is. You're not a child, and you're certainly not an inexperienced physician. You know the severity of this toxin, and you know there are substances capable of counteracting it."Kaleb's forehead cr
