The sweat was still drying on Ezra’s skin, the frantic rhythm of "Phase 4" trailing off into the quiet hum of the penthouse’s climate control. Suthira lay across him, a heavy, silk-draped weight that felt more like a claim than a comfort. Her fingers traced the line of his ribs, a slow, methodical movement that made his skin prickle.

"Your heart rate peaked at one-forty-eight," she whispered, her voice a low, satisfied vibration against his chest. "Excellent data, Ezra. The 'Intimacy Protocol' is going to be flawless."

Ezra stared at the ceiling, his breath finally hitching back to normal. "Is that all I am now? A data point?"

"You're the most important data point in the world," she murmured, nipping at his collarbone before sliding off him with effortless grace.

She stood up, naked and unashamed in the moonlight, and walked toward the glass console. The glow of the screens illuminated her silhouette—a sharp, lethal outline that reminded Ezra of his father’s warning. She wasn't a girlfriend. She was a tiger.

Ezra sat up, rubbing his face. "Suthira? It’s three in the morning. What are you doing?"

"Checking the pre-market movements," she said, her eyes fixed on a scrolling ticker. "The world doesn't sleep just because you’re tired, Ezra."

Ezra stood up, grabbing his discarded boxers and pulling them on. He walked over to her, peering over her shoulder at the holographic display. Something caught his eye—a jagged spike in the volume of Fin-Intelligence shares being traded on the dark pools.

"Wait, hold on," Ezra said, his brain finally clicking into gear. "Zoom in on that block trade. Who just bought four percent of the float?"

"A minor institutional adjustment," Suthira said, her voice dismissive.

"Minor? That’s fifty million dollars in a single ten-minute window," Ezra countered, his finger hovering over the screen. "And look at the buyer. It’s an offshore entity. 'Nidus-X Holdings.' Who the hell is Nidus-X?"

Suthira didn't look at him. She didn't even blink. "The market is reacting to the island leak, Ezra. Volatility is expected."

"This isn't volatility, Suthira. This is an accumulation," Ezra said, his voice rising as the adrenaline of the 'fixer' in him took over. "Someone is buying up the voting shares. Someone is trying to dilute your ninety percent. Are you seeing this?"

"I see everything," she said, finally turning to him. Her amber eyes were cold, reflecting the blue light of the terminal. "Go back to bed, Ezra. You have a press junket in six hours."

"I’m not going back to bed! If someone is staging a hostile takeover, I need to know. That’s my name on the door, remember? Even if you own the building."

Suthira stepped into his space, her hands sliding up his chest to rest on his shoulders. The heat of her palms was an immediate distraction, a physical anchor trying to pull him away from the data.

"Ezra, listen to me," she whispered, her gaze dropping to his lips. "The 'Nidus' group is part of the plan. It’s a secondary vehicle for liquidity. It’s how we protect the valuation from short-sellers."

"A secondary vehicle? You didn't mention a secondary vehicle in the contract," Ezra said, trying to pull back, but her grip tightened.

"I didn't think you’d be interested in the plumbing, darling. You’re the visionary. I’m the engineer. Let me handle the pipes."

"I don't like the look of it," Ezra muttered, though his resolve was wavering as she leaned in, her breath warm against his neck. "It looks like someone is hedging against you. Or against us."

"Is that what you think?" She chuckled, a dark, sultry sound. "That I’d let anyone take what’s mine? You’re projecting your own insecurities, Ezra. You’re worried that you’re replaceable."

"Am I?"

"Nobody can do what you do," she breathed, her teeth grazing the shell of his ear. "Nobody can lie like you. Nobody can dream like you. And nobody..." She moved lower, her hand sliding down his back to pull him firmly against her. "...can handle me the way you did tonight."

"Suthira, don't," Ezra groaned, his head falling back. "I’m trying to talk about the stock."

"The stock is fine," she whispered, her hands becoming more insistent, her touch more demanding. "But you... you’re still too focused on the wrong things. We need to work on your 'total receptivity' again. You’re overthinking."

"I’m not overthinking. I’m noticing things. My dad said—"

"Forget what your father said," she hissed, her eyes snapping to his with a sudden, sharp intensity. "Your father lives in a world of peanut cookies and small dreams. You live in my world now. And in my world, the only thing that matters is the vision. And the woman who gives it to you."

She pushed him back toward the sofa, her movements predatory. Ezra felt the familiar, intoxicating rush of lust and fear. He knew she was distracting him. He knew she was using his own body as a cage to keep his mind from wandering too far into her ledgers.

"Say it," she commanded, hovering over him as he sank into the leather. "Say you trust the vision."

Ezra looked at her—at the beautiful, terrifying shark who had saved him from the gutter only to drown him in silk. The power she held over him was absolute, a magnetic pull he couldn't break.

"I trust the vision," he rasped, his hands reaching up to pull her down.

"Good boy," she whispered, and for the next two hours, the only data points that mattered were the ones she forced out of him in the dark.

*

The sun was high over the city when Ezra finally woke up. The penthouse was silent, the air smelling of expensive coffee and the lingering scent of Suthira’s perfume. She was gone—likely at the office, finishing the 'liquidation' she’d mentioned on the phone the night before.

Ezra felt like a ghost. He walked into the kitchen, his legs heavy, and poured himself a cup of coffee. His mind was a fog of pleasure and paranoia, his father’s words echoing in his ears. She’s going to eat you alive.

He walked back to the console, intending to check the press schedule. But as he sat down, his eyes drifted back to the trading terminal.

The Nidus-X trades were still there. But something was different. The volume had surged again.

"Okay, let's see who you really are," Ezra muttered, his fingers flying across the keys.

He didn't use the standard Khem Capital portal. He opened a back-door shell he’d built during the server crash on the island—a little piece of 'messy code' he’d hidden in the architecture while Suthira wasn't looking.

He traced the Nidus-X routing. It went from a bank in the Caymans to a law firm in Singapore, then through a series of shell companies with names like 'Piscine Growth' and 'Golden Tank.'

"Come on, come on," Ezra whispered, the coffee sitting heavy in his stomach.

He hit a firewall, but it was a standard Khem encryption. He bypassed it using the biometric override Suthira had given him for 'emergency access.'

A file appeared. NIDUS-X: INCORPORATION DOCUMENTS.

Ezra clicked it. His heart was hammering against his ribs so hard it hurt. He scrolled down to the bottom of the P*F, past the legal jargon and the tax identification numbers, to the section for the 'Beneficial Owner.'

He stopped breathing.

The name wasn't Suthira Khem.

It was Ezra Mahardika.

"What?" Ezra gasped, leaning closer to the screen.

There, in black and white, was his name. His social security number. His digital signature—a perfect match for the one he’d provided during the 'Intimacy Protocol' sessions on the island.

But he had never signed this. He had never even heard of Nidus-X until last night.

He scrolled further. Nidus-X didn't just own four percent of Fin-Intelligence. It was being used to buy up Suthira’s own personal debt obligations. It was a vehicle designed to look like Ezra was staged a hostile takeover of his own company—using Suthira’s own money.

"She's framing me," Ezra whispered to the empty room. "She's making it look like I'm the one betraying her."

The realization hit him like a physical blow. If the board saw this—if the SEC saw this—Ezra would be the one going to prison for market manipulation. He would be the one who 'stole' the company. Suthira would be the victim. The brilliant billionaire who was tricked by the 'scrappy visionary.'

He was the fall guy. He had always been the fall guy.

His hands shook as he closed the window, his mind racing. He had to get out. He had to find a way to prove he hadn't done this.

He started digging through the encrypted sub-folders, looking for anything else she’d hidden under his name. He found a directory labeled VAULT_KHEM_09.

He tried to open it. ACCESS DENIED. BIOMETRIC KEY REQUIRED.

Ezra pressed his thumb to the sensor. ACCESS DENIED. SECONDARY KEY REQUIRED.

"A secondary key?" Ezra muttered. "Where the hell am I supposed to find a—"

He stopped. He remembered the island. He remembered the night Suthira had given him a 'gift'—a small, silver cufflink he’d thought was just a piece of jewelry. He had left it on the nightstand.

He scrambled into the bedroom, his heart racing. He found the cufflink, a sleek, rectangular piece of obsidian set in silver. He looked at it closely. On the underside, almost invisible to the naked eye, was a tiny, etched QR code and a physical pin-connector.

He ran back to the console and plugged the cufflink into the hardware port.

The screen flickered. The red 'Access Denied' text turned a clinical, glowing green.

VAULT_KHEM_09 UNLOCKED.

A single file sat in the center of the screen. It was an audio recording, dated three months ago—weeks before Ezra had even walked into that first boardroom.

Ezra clicked play.

Suthira’s voice filled the room, but it wasn't the sultry, gravelly tone she used with him. It was cold. Analytical. Dead.

"The subject has been identified," the recording said. "Ezra Mahardika. High intelligence, high desperation, low social support. He’s the perfect vessel for the pivot. We’ll let him pitch the goldfish concept—it’s absurd enough to distract the regulators. I’ll provide the seed capital, and we’ll begin the psychological integration immediately."

There was a pause, the sound of a pen scratching on paper.

"And if he becomes a liability?" another voice asked—a man Ezra didn't recognize.

"He won't," Suthira’s voice replied. "By the time the Nidus-X trades are complete, he’ll be so deep in the 'Intimacy Protocol' that he won't be able to tell his own thoughts from mine. And if he tries to leave... well, I have the island footage. He’ll do exactly what I tell him to do. Or he’ll spend the rest of his life in a cage much smaller than this penthouse."

The recording ended.

Ezra sat in the silence, the cold coffee forgotten on the desk. He looked around the marble-and-glass palace, and for the first time, he didn't see a home. He didn't see a kingdom.

He saw the tank.

He was the goldfish. And the glass was starting to crack.

A soft chime echoed from the elevator.

Ezra’s head snapped toward the foyer. The doors slid open, and Suthira stepped out, looking radiant in a sharp, blood-red suit. She held a bouquet of dark lilies in one hand and her phone in the other.

"Ezra, darling?" she called out, her voice like honey. "I have some wonderful news. The pre-orders just hit a million. We’re going to be the most powerful couple in history."

Ezra quickly minimized the windows, his hand trembling as he shoved the cufflink into his pocket. He turned to face her, his heart hammering a frantic, desperate rhythm against his ribs.

"That's... that's great, Suthira," Ezra said, his voice cracking. "Statistically delightful."

Suthira stopped in the center of the room, her amber eyes narrowing as she looked at him. She dropped the flowers onto the table and walked toward him, her heels clicking like a countdown.

"You look pale, Ezra," she said, reaching out to touch his cheek. Her hand was freezing. "Are you feeling alright?"

"Just a bit of a headache," Ezra lied, forcing a smile that felt like it was breaking his face. "Too much 'integration,' maybe."

"There's no such thing as too much," she whispered, her eyes searching his. She leaned in, her lips inches from his, her scent wrapping around him like a shroud. "Are you ready for the next phase? I think it’s time we showed the world what you’re really made of."

Ezra looked into the eyes of the woman who had planned his destruction before she’d even met him. He felt the fear, sharp and cold, but underneath it, a new feeling was starting to grow. A manic, desperate energy.

If she wanted a liar, he’d give her the best performance of his life.

"I'm ready, Suthira," Ezra said, leaning into her kiss. "Tell me what to do."

As she pulled him closer, Ezra’s hand tightened around the silver cufflink in his pocket. He had the key. Now, he just had to find the exit before she finished her dinner.

The flight back from the island had been a blur of pressurized cabins, cold champagne, and the suffocating realization that every move Ezra made was being mapped. By the time they reached the penthouse, the sun was dipping below the skyline, painting the marble floors in shades of bruised orange. Suthira hadn't let go of his hand since the car. She led him through the foyer, her grip like a velvet-lined shackle."You’re still tense, Ezra," Suthira whispered, backing him toward the sprawling sectional. "The data says your heart rate hasn't dropped below ninety since we left the tarmac.""Maybe because I'm waiting for the next 'leak' to drop," Ezra rasped, his hands finding the small of her back. "You really sold us out, Suthira. You turned us into a reality show.""I turned us into an empire." She leaned in, her lips grazing his jaw. "The world is watching. We should give them something worth the bandwidth, don't you think?""Is this Phase 4? Or are you just bored?""I'm never bored wh

  • Chapter 6: Corporate Retreat to Paradise

The Gulfstream G650 private jet banked sharply over a turquoise expanse of the Andaman Sea, the cabin smelling of leather and Suthira’s signature sandalwood. Ezra stared out the window, his reflection looking back at him—sharper, more expensive, but with eyes that were starting to look like those of a man who hadn’t slept in forty-eight hours."You’re still thinking about it," Suthira said. She didn't look up from her glass of vintage Krug. She was lounging across the cream-colored sofa, her legs tucked under her, looking far too relaxed for a woman who had just liquidated a rival’s life work on a whim."Thinking about what?" Ezra asked, turning back to her. "The fact that we’re heading to a private island for a 'marketing retreat' with a team I haven't seen yet? Or the fact that Leo Vance looked like he wanted to jump off a bridge?""Leo was a parasite," she said, her voice a casual wave of the hand. Suthira murmured, her eyes dark and reflecting the elevator’s warm light."I just took down Julian Thorne. Of course I am," Ezra said, his voice a bit more breathless than he wanted it to be.
