Chapter 8

Daniel went home to change his clothes so that he can head to school, he met his dad who asked how his appointment went. He told him how he was respected because he was the heir to Kingston's properties but left out the drama that occurred before the respect was given to him.

He instructed his personal driver to take one of the latest cars his father left in his name to take him to school. It had been a while there and he wanted to go in there stylishly.

Daniel arrived in no time and instead of letting the driver take him inside the campus, he told him to drop him in front of the campus then entered the school in his new look.

Heads turned to him when he stepped into the university’s compound. He had new clothing that had the Kingston’s logo printed on it, his shoes were neat and shining, his injuries well-dressed and neat, his hair gelled to the back like a wealthy man, he was carrying new school bag and overall, he looked like a model that just came out of a photoshoot.

Even the perfume he used was expensive and the scent drove people mad in wonder of how he was able to get it due to their knowledge of him being poor

Whispers erupts from the students as he walks to his class and it made him smile that, now that he got the attention of a lot of students, the look on their faces were that of contempt like it has always been, this time it was looks of surprises and astonishment that filled all the student’s expressions.

“Is that Daniel the pauper?” a student whispered.

“Wow, he looks clean,” another said.

More whispering occurred. “How did he get to be this clean?” one asked.

“He decided to wash up this time” another joked his reply then some students giggled at the joke made of him.

“No one knew he looked this good till now” a girl passed him while giving him a once over and walking further in the opposite direction.

He was about to get into his class when a hand roughly grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him back which caused him to lose balance and fall to the ground.

Daniel looked up to see who dared touch him in this manner when they were seeing his new status and he saw an angry-looking Jordan with some of his minion friends hovering over him.

It made him angry that Jordan thinks he can still maltreat him like when he was living with them and before but he could protest, a slap landed on his face and it caused him to scream from the pain.

“Grab the thief and show him not to steal again” he instructed his friends who started beating Daniel with hard blows and kicks as he cried for them to stop.

Students were gathered around as they watched Daniel get brutally beaten by Jordan’s friends.

“Yes, beat him” some students encouraged.

“Why is he getting punished? Is it because he looks clean?” one joked and other students laughed at him as he continued to get beaten and rough-handled.

“Wait, stop” Jordan ordered his friends who stopped with the beating immediately. Jordan turns to face the students who gathered the scene “You all know how much of a low-life this boy Daniel is and if my family hadn’t taken him off the street, then he will never be alive or have anything to his name?” he starts and everyone listens to him carefully.

“Why are you having him beat up?” one student asked from the crowd and all others agreed that he told them the reason for this punishment for Daniel.

“The boy is a thief” he glared woefully at him and kicked him in the back “My mum asked him to get something and first he comes with a bad product to deceive us and get money from us then my mum sends him back and instead of bringing her what she asked for, he brought up stories about it being stolen by someone else, well played Daniel” he looked at him distastefully.

“My mum, being a very nice and considerate woman, took him back out of her good act and sent him to buy some groceries again but now, he didn’t bring neither the groceries or the money, rather he saved up the money to get himself some clean, cool clothing, made his hair, wore some nice attire that makes him stand and he thinks that he will go scot-free from that” he grabbed Daniel’s hair then slapped in on the cheeks.

“You think you can escape us by directly coming to school, without reporting to my mum, you pauper,” he punched the poor beat-up boy “After all that we did for you?” Jordan fake cried and told his friends to continue with the beating.

Some students who couldn’t take it any longer left, some encouraged the beating as they chanted ‘Beat the thief’ continuously, while some others felt sad for him but had to believe Jordan because he always has the final words.

Daniel struggled to free himself from the beating he was getting and tried to scream, hoping that someone will at least help him but it didn’t seem like anyone wanted to, so he kept trying to defend himself and protect his head from receiving the most blows.

“Sto-stop, pl-please” he begged but no one heard his cry for help.

Just then the students heard a shout and they turned around to see who was that, only to find out that it was three of their lecturers along with some men who looked like private security details to wealthy folks.

They rushed down to the scene and pulled the boys away from poor Daniel. Jordan wanted to grab Daniel again but the thunderous voice of their lecturer stopped him right on his tracks.

“What in the world is going on here? Why are you beating the poor man?” the man cried in a strained voice.

Jordan looked at Daniel who now looked roughened up from the beating he got now before answering.

“He stole from my family and I decided to teach him a lesson. He also disappeared when he knew fully well that he had obligations to me and my family after all that we did to make sure that he is comfortable” Jordan explained in a sober tone.

“And beating him is the right thing to do?” another of the lecturers asked.

“He deserved it, he is a low-life, a bastard and an incompetent good-for-nothing who will never amount to anything good” Jordan throws insults at Daniel.

“I will make sure that you all are graciously punished so you know how badly you messed up” the third professor said then they all turned to the injured Daniel with soft looks on their faces and warm smiles.

“Please, we ask that you forgive us for these that happened to you, it will never happen again” said the three lecturers.

As the lecturers tried to pacify Daniel, the students around and Jordan tried to understand why the lecturers who didn’t care if Daniel was getting jumped by anyone or even if he was to be killed and was passing by, he wouldn’t spare him a glance. They were surprised that they were behaving kindly and were apologizing to Daniel as they tried to straighten his clothes.

This left everyone in wonder and confusion as to what was going on.
