25. The Lost Gift

I have many luxury items in my house, and Danny is responsible for keeping it clean. Sometimes, Grandma asks him to take Choco for a walk and give her a bath. ' Danny can steal our stuff,' Laura thought as she picked up her cell phone and tried calling her mother.

"Hey Laura, how's it going? Are you done with your divorce? If so, why don't you come back home soon?" Michelle asked.

Laura took a long breath and said, "Mom, I think we should check the luxury items in our and Grandma's house. I'm worried that that useless man stole something from us."

Laura then recounted her search for Danny and how they met here.

"What? He's at Pine Royal Resort?" asked Michelle in surprise.

"Mom, think about how someone like Danny can stay at a hotel like Pine Royal? Even just eating a sandwhich and drinking orange juice in this place is impossible for someone like him," Laura continued.

"Hmm, well, I'll arrange for us all to go through the house!" grumbled Michelle.

Back at the Majestic Hotel, the guests had yet to leave the ballroom, even though they were full from the meal that had been served. They were all curious about the mysterious billionaire who had given Grandma the gift.

Some of the guests had been influenced by Danny's words a while ago. They were all whispering that it could be true that Danny had given the gift.

But after accidentally overhearing Michelle Huxley and her daughter's conversation, she realized there was no point in being swayed by the guests' words. "Huh! I almost thought that man was the one who had given the Big Lady the luxurious gift, but in reality he's just a thief."

Sharon deliberately said this out loud so that the guests would again think that Danny was a loser who couldn't possibly give luxuries. She wanted Danny to continue to have a bad reputation and get him completely kicked out of town.

Sharon Bennet had nothing to do with Danny, but his recent rejection had offended her. How could a man with such an insignificant identity dare to reject a superior woman like her?

Sharon Bennet then got up and said goodbye to the Huxley family. She was so respected and considered an important person that even the Great Lady and other Huxley family members escorted her to the front of the lobby.

"Ms. Bennet, I am very grateful for your presence on behalf of the Phoenix Crest Group. I am counting on you very much for this project we are about to develop." Mrs. Victoria Huxley greeted the woman.

"Madam, you can rest easy. I will speak to my future husband, and I am sure he will not refuse. He never says no to anything I ask," Sharon Bennet said.

When Susan heard this, she began to envy Sharon Bennet's words. She also fantasized about getting a man like Young Master Lancaster.

Although Susan was already dating Evan Anderson, she would not hesitate to kick him out if she found a better match.

Evan's company was still small in value, and he was not very generous with her; he was more like calculating. If he spent money on Susan or her family, he should also get a return of the same amount or even more.

The invited guests finally left the ballroom one by one, following Sharon Bennet, until only the Huxley family remained.

Victoria Huxley immediately turned to her daughter-in-law seriously, "Michelle, what exactly did Laura say? Why are you talking about theft, what did that poor daughter-in-law do?"

Michelle then told her mother-in-law what Laura had said, and she let out a long sigh. "Mom, Laura has blocked all of Danny's cards, and all the balances have been transferred to Laura's personal account. That's why Laura suspects that some of our belongings were stolen. Hasn't she been coming to mom's house to take care of Choco?"

Grandmother stomped her cane, "How rude of her! Then we'll split up! You, Susan and Evan go to your house to check, while Desmond, Kelly and Matthew help me check my collection of luxury goods!"

No one argued with Grandma at that moment. Victoria was a perfectionist and very neat. Her luxury items were placed in a glass cabinet, and each had a code number.

They began scrutinizing them individually, but not a single item was missing. Everything matched the records. The same thing happened at Anthony's house. Although it wasn't as neat as Grandma's, they could still recognize the items in their collection.

"So all the family's valuables are still where they belong?" asked Matthew, who didn't look happy about this.

"Yeah, it's a good thing we didn't lose anything," said Grandma, relieved.

"Well, at least we only have a useless son-in-law in the family and not a thief," said Desmond.

He should have been happy that his extended family's wealth was not lost. But after what Danny had done to him, he couldn't accept it if the man was allowed to walk away.

Matthew remembered very well how he was beaten by the man and framed using the knife he carried to bluff. 'I can't stay silent, he must pay for everything he has done to me!'

Matthew quietly took the calligraphy painting presented by Miss Bennet and put it in the inner pocket of his suit. Then he said suddenly. "I think we're too hasty to conclude that the loser didn't do anything. Don't we still have plenty of birthday presents for Grandma?"

Desmond snapped his fingers, "My son is right; it wouldn't hurt for us to check.

Everyone agreed with Matthew's suggestion, and they hurried to check the gifts given by Sharon Bennet. Grandmother had received so many luxurious gifts that they couldn't remember each one, but they could remember the high-value and flashy ones well.

Until Kelly finally shouted out, "Mom, why don't I see the calligraphy painting Miss Bennet gave you?"

At that moment, Matthew smiled slightly, 'Danny, now everyone will think of you as a thief!'
