The sun rose gently over the Harrison mansion, but the mood inside was far from peaceful.
Clara sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers twisting the bedsheet. She hadn’t slept all night. Ryan hadn’t come home until dawn, and when he did, he slipped quietly into bed as if nothing had happened.
Now he was in the kitchen, frying eggs.
“Ryan,” she called softly, walking in. “Where did you go last night?”
Ryan flipped the egg, calm as ever. “Just took a walk.”
Clara crossed her arms. “A walk? You left when men attacked my father’s factory! Do you think this is the time to go strolling?”
He turned, looked at her, and smiled faintly. “Did they burn the factory?”
She frowned. “No… but—”
She stopped. “Wait. How did you know?”
Before Ryan could answer, the front door burst open. Clara’s mother rushed in, her hair messy, her face pale. “Clara! You won’t believe it!”
Ryan calmly placed the fried egg on a plate. “What happened?”
“The attackers! They’re gone! Every one of them! When the police arrived, they found the whole Black Viper group tied up outside the gate!” Her eyes were wide with shock. “Even the leader was kneeling, crying for mercy. No one knows who did it!”
Clara blinked. “That’s impossible… the Black Vipers? Caught overnight?”
Her mother nodded quickly. “The police said it looked like professional soldiers handled it. But no one saw anything. No footprints, no vehicles—nothing!”
Ryan just nodded slowly, cutting into his egg. “That’s good news.”
Clara’s mother stared at him. “Good news? That’s all you have to say? Our enemies were destroyed overnight!”
Ryan smiled faintly. “Maybe your family has good luck.”
She scoffed. “Luck? Maybe someone finally pitied us. Definitely not you.”
Clara watched him quietly. There was something strange in his eyes, something she’d never seen before—calm, strong, and cold at the same time.
He wasn’t surprised by anything her mother said.
After her mother left, Clara sat down opposite him. “Ryan… if you know something, tell me.”
He didn’t look up. “You wouldn’t believe me even if I did.”
“Try me,” she said softly.
He glanced at her then, his eyes deep and unreadable. “Let’s just say old ghosts don’t sleep forever.”
Before she could ask what he meant, his phone buzzed—his normal phone this time, the one everyone knew. He checked the message and stood up.
“Where are you going now?” Clara asked.
He grabbed his jacket. “Work.”
She frowned. “At the delivery place?”
Ryan smiled. “Yes. Someone has to deliver peace of mind.”
He walked out, leaving her more confused than ever.
---
Across town, in a dark warehouse, three men knelt on the ground, trembling.
A tall man in black boots stood before them. “The commander sent me to deliver a message,” he said coldly. “He said if you ever touch the Harrison family again, there won’t be a next time.”
One of the men swallowed hard. “Commander? Who is he?”
The man smirked. “You called him useless once.”
Then he turned and left.
---
That evening, the Harrison mansion was noisy again. Everyone was talking about the “mysterious hero” who saved the factory.
Uncle Fred laughed. “Maybe the police finally did their job.”
Aunt Mabel added, “Whoever it was, I hope he keeps helping. People like Ryan can’t.”
Ryan sat silently, eating his food. He didn’t need their thanks.
Clara looked at him again, this time longer than before. Something inside her told her the truth was sitting right across the table.
---
That night, when Ryan stepped outside to breathe the cold air, his phone buzzed again—the secret one. He picked it up and heard a voice say,
“Commander, the enemy leader wants to meet you. He says he knows something about your past.”
Ryan’s eyes narrowed. “My past?”
“Yes, sir.”
Ryan looked up at the dark sky and whispered,
“Then maybe it’s time to dig up what I buried.”

Chapter 19-The Suspicious Warning

Ava’s mother kept complaining about money, while Clara acted worried only when people were watching her.Ryan woke up early. He had barely slept, thinking about everything he had overheard the night before. Clara calling him useless wasn’t new, but the way Eric reacted… the way he looked scared… it bothered him. Something wasn’t right. He stepped outside to breathe fresh air. The compound was quiet. A stray chicken walked around the yard, pecking the ground as if it owned the place. Ryan sat on the small wooden bench beside the wall.Suddenly, Ava came outside slowly. She looked around first, making sure no one followed her.“Ryan,” she whispered. He looked up. “Yes?”She moved closer and lowered her voice even more.“I don’t want anyone to hear… but I think you should be careful.”Ryan stared at her. “Careful about what?”A
Chapter 18-A Small Change In the house
The next morning, the house felt strangely calm. For the first time in a long while, Ava’s mother did not shout Ryan’s name from the kitchen. Instead, she only called Ava to help her with breakfast. The absence of yelling made the house feel almost empty, and Ryan noticed the difference immediately. He stepped out of his small room, stretching slowly. He expected to hear Clara’s usual complaints or her mother’s sharp comments, but the air was quiet. Only the sound of plates clinking came from the kitchen.Ryan walked toward the sitting room and saw Ava arranging the chairs neatly. She looked up at him and gave a small nod—not a smile, not friendliness, just a normal greeting. But even that was new. Ava had never greeted him without her mother watching.“Good morning,” Ryan said calmly.“Morning,” Ava replied, then continued arranging the chairs. The silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable. It simply felt strange… almost peaceful.A few minutes later, Ava’s mother came out of the kit

There was a strange heaviness in the air, like everyone was thinking their own thoughts and no one wanted to talk.Ava was in the kitchen washing plates. Ava didn’t say anything then, but she didn’t like it.As she rinsed a plate, she heard footsteps behind her. It was Clara’s mother.“That girl is getting too comfortable,” the older woman said quietly.Ava looked up. “Who?”“Clara,” her mother replied. “She came home last night angry for no reason. And she was saying nonsense about that cousin of hers, Eric.”Ava paused. “What nonsense?”Her mother leaned closer. “She said Eric will soon bring ‘good news.’ But I don’t trust that boy. He is too sneaky.”Ava agreed. Eric’s words, his forced smiles, his strange confidence—nothing about him felt clean. Before she could

He didn’t pick my calls.”Ava hesitated. “He went out earlier. He came back tired and went to rest.”Clara frowned deeply. “Rest? Rest from what? Only Ava and Ryan were at home.Ava sat at the small dining table, sorting the family’s bills. She sighed as she counted the money she made from the previous night’s extra shift. It still wasn’t enough. It never seemed enough.Ryan stepped out of the bedroom, his hair a little messy, wearing the same simple shirt he always wore at home. He paused when he saw Ava’s tired face.“Another bill?” he asked quietly.Ava didn’t look up. “Yes. They increased the electricity payment again. I don’t want stress.”Ryan didn’t argue. He didn’t raise his voice. He only said, “Jus
