The week passed slowly, but inside the Harrison home, strange things began to happen—strange in a good way, but still confusing to Clara and Ava. Mrs. Harrison was taken back to the hospital for proper treatment. The nurses attended to her kindly, checking on her every few hours. They even moved her to a clean private room, something far beyond what the family could afford.

Clara stood beside the bed, staring at the white sheets and the fresh medicines placed neatly on the table.

“Who paid for all this?” she whispered.

Ava shook her head. “I don’t know… The doctor said the deposit was made already. But how?” Her voice trembled with worry and relief mixed together.

Clara sat down. “It wasn’t the landlady. It wasn’t Eric. You and I don’t have this kind of money. So who is helping us?”

Ava didn’t answer. She didn’t have one.

But outside the room, something else was happening.

Eric had arrived at the hospital—not to visit Mrs. Harrison, but because he had heard rumors. The landlady had casually mentioned that Clara’s “mysterious helper” had somehow managed to pay part of the house rent and even hospital bills. Eric had laughed it off at first, but as he walked through the hospital hallways, the laughter died.

He pushed his hands into his pockets and looked around sharply.

“How can they afford this place?” he muttered under his breath. “Clara can’t even buy painkillers without borrowing money. And Ava? Even worse.”

Eric stepped to the reception desk and tapped the counter.

“Hello, excuse me. I need information on a patient—Mrs. Harrison.”

The nurse gave him a polite smile. “Are you a family member?”

Eric hesitated. “Well… I’m close to the family.”

The nurse checked briefly. “She is in Room 208. Her family has taken care of the necessary payments.”

Eric’s brows pulled together. “Family? Which family? Who paid?”

“I’m sorry, sir,” the nurse replied. “We can’t release that information.”

Eric clicked his tongue, annoyed. His mind was racing now.

*Ava can’t. Clara definitely can’t. So who? Someone is helping them… but who?*

He walked down the hall, and when he reached the door of the private room, he didn’t enter. Instead, he watched through the small glass.

Clara sat beside her mother, fanning her gently. Ava was arranging the food tray. Both looked tired, but relieved.

Eric’s jaw tightened.

“This doesn’t make sense,” he whispered. “Who would waste money on them?”

On his way out of the hospital, he kept thinking. His steps were fast, his face stiff with confusion. Something in his chest tightened—not worry, but irritation and suspicion.

When he reached the parking lot, he stopped suddenly.

“What if Ryan is behind this?” he said out loud.

But immediately he scoffed.

“No… impossible. He left. He ran away like the useless man he is. He wouldn’t have money anyway.”

Still… something didn’t feel right.

For the rest of the day, Eric couldn’t focus. He kept pacing, thinking, questioning. Bills being paid. Hospital deposit made. Things happening behind his back.

“Someone is helping them,” he muttered again. “And I’ll find out who.”

He didn’t know that one of Ryan’s men had been watching him from across the street the entire time—silent, hidden, making sure Eric never caused trouble for the family again.

And somewhere far from town, in his hidden location, Ryan received a quiet text message:

“Eric is getting suspicious. But the family is safe.”

Ryan’s hands tightened around his phone. His face remained calm, but his eyes carried a storm.

“Let him suspect,” Ryan whispered. “As long as they’re safe… he can think whatever he wants.”

But deep inside, Ryan knew one thing for sure:

Eric’s suspicion was only the beginning.

You look serious.”Clara’s uncle sat down slowly. He rubbed his palms together as if he was thinking deeply. “It’s about that boy in the station… Eric.”Mrs Harrison frowned immediately. “What about him?”He looked at her closely. “I am going to bail him out tomorrow morning.”Mrs Harrison dropped the clothes immediately. “God forbid! Why would you say that? You want to bail that troublemaker?”Clara’s uncle sighed. “Grace, calm down. Let us think well. The boy is suffering in that place.”Mrs Harrison shook her head fast. “He deserves to suffer! Do you know what he did? Do you know how he almost destroyed Clara and Ryan’s peace? How he behaved ba

But he stood up slowly and forced himself to move. He washed his face and looked into the mirror.“You must stay calm,” he told himself quietly. “You must watch him. You must not make mistakes.”He changed his clothes and walked out of the room. The house was quiet. Only the soft morning breeze entered through the open window.
