“Where are all my coins, Aria?!!!” Genevieve cried with her eyes wide open.

Aria rushed to her knees, examining the metal box with visibly trembling hands. From her movements alone, there was absolute panic within her. She hurried into the inner room to check the floor, perhaps believing the coins had somehow spilled there. But she returned empty-handed, still searching frantically around the entire shop.

“Aria!!! I said where is my money?!!!” Genevieve squealed, grabbing Aria by her gown and s

Arthur adjusted his neck-tie to breathe more freely. Despite the cold temperature of the night, he was feeling some kind of heat listening to this. The woman's voice rose and fell beyond the door while another sound occasionally followed whenever she drew a sharp breath. Beneath it all, the low groan of an aged man could be heard from time to time. Arthur would never argue that the voice did not belong to Father Stone. He had listened to that priest speak often enough during prayers, punishments and sermons. There was simply no mistaking it.Inside that room was something Arthur had learned people called sin. The sin of the flesh. He was eighteen years old. He understood enough about the world to know what such sounds usually meant, and yet his confusion remained greater than his embarrassment. The priests spent their days preaching discipline, purity and sacrifice. Their disciples followed them with almost religious devotion. Yet one of those same priests was hidden behind a lock

It was at the same moment Edward and Alaric burst back from the water and regained their footing. Both disciples immediately sniffed the backs of their hands again, their eyes reddening with each breath they drew.Arthur and the remaining disciples instinctively stepped away from them. They smelled terrible. To Arthur at least. Edward's and Alaric's scent reminded him of Horiah, the dreadful man who had torn his father's heart from his chest.Arthur could perceive their spiritual smell perfectly.Obviously, they smelled this way because of that Clarity Powder they kept inhaling. If a substance could alter a person's spiritual scent so greatly, then perhaps the powder was far more abysmal than Arthur originally thought. As the enraged disciples attempted to charge at Elvic once more, Arthur suddenly noticed something.Elvic's eyes glinted amber.Only for a second. The moment it happened, Edward's and Alaric's belts loosened.Their trousers slipped downward. Both men stumbled forward

Arthur could bet on it that Elvic possessed the platinum face-card. And somehow, that same handsomeness made all the women pause this way. The fellow was treated like some god of beauty descended from the heavens. As Elvic walked into the midst of the ladies, clearly unwilling to fetch water from where the disciples were gathering theirs, the women immediately offered assistance."Please, my lord, we shall help you fill your carriage."One beautiful woman spoke while two others hurriedly took the containers from Elvic's hands."But you needn't trouble yourselves. I can carry them myself."Elvic attempted to protest like a gentleman. The same woman pressed on with confidence."We are aware of that, my lord. We only insist. Please remain by the bank so your boots do not get wet."From his place in the river, Arthur watched Elvic glance between them in mild surprise. Arthur himself found the entire scene astonishing. Elvic's gift appeared to earn him support wherever he went. In some st

Returning back to his ward, Arthur fully accepted things were not going to be easy. He needed to leave here. At the very least, he needed to find a way beyond these walls and retrieve his book before attempting any escape. The longer he remained under the priests' watchful eyes, the greater the chance of being exposed.Concerning the escape itself, there was a strong intuition that it would not be something easily attained. Too many flaws could emerge from such a plan. Someone could notice his absence. Someone could follow him. Worse still, someone might already be expecting him to try.Even thinking about escape felt like something that needed caution. Arthur knew very little of the world hidden beneath ordinary appearances. There could be powers at work here that he neither understood nor perceived. Apart from that, priests themselves surely possessed limitations just as performers supposedly did. Yet limitations alone did not make them harmless.Arthur had not been able to ask

"What possibly is your mission with that door?" Father Gath enquired as they both walked the endless stone way.Arthur looked at Gath, likely stole a glance at his taller frame, then he swallowed hard."I think I heard a disturbing racket in there," Arthur said.Father Gath glanced down from his shoulders with a stoic gaze. "A disturbing racket? That's a new one. Define it.""Like something running all over the room and scattering things, Father."Father Gath glanced from his shoulder again. "Things like that should be easy to ignore... what's your name?""Jack, Father."Arthur lied although he couldn't tell why he had been using many names lately. Earlier, he had used Tye, maybe he needed to stick with this particular name now."Alright. So, speak to me Jack, because I find it hard to accept your term—disturbing racket. What really led you to that door?" Father Gath demanded as he clasped his hands behind him.Arthur hesitated. He didn't know why he dreaded telling the priest that he
