Chapter 1
1
Dante stood on the wooden dock, staring at the massive white yacht bobbing gently against the crystal clear water. He had emptied his entire savings account from the past few months just to rent this luxurious private vessel.
He desperately wanted to fulfill the ultimate wish of his wife, Ginevra. He wanted to make up for the romantic wedding proposal she had missed, planning to do it right here in the middle of the breathtaking ocean.
He pictured her smiling, finally looking at him with genuine love.
Footsteps approached the boarding ramp. Dante turned around, his welcoming smile freezing completely.
Ginevra did not show up alone. Standing right beside her was her male corporate assistant, luca.
"Why is he here?" Dante narrowed his eyes, pointing at the fragile looking man.
Ginevra crossed her arms over her chest. Her gorgeous face hardened into a mask of pure disgust. "Dante, can you stop being so incredibly narrow minded and petty? Look at him. luca has been under immense pressure at the company lately. He lost a ton of weight because of the heavy workload I gave him. I am his boss, what is so wrong with bringing him along to clear his head in the fresh ocean breeze? Is it really that excruciatingly hard for you to accommodate just one more person on this giant boat?"
Dante clenched his jaw, trying to keep his composure.
"How did you become so utterly materialistic and completely devoid of basic human compassion?" Ginevra tapped her high heel against the wooden boards, her eyes filled with nothing but pure contempt.
"You have absolutely no idea what real pressure looks like. You sit around all day while we actually work to build a future."
luca lowered his head, gripping the edge of his oversized sweater and trembling slightly. "Please forget about it, President Ginevra. He probably just wanted some quality couple time with you. It is entirely my fault for intruding on your private weekend. I will just go back to the city by myself and take a few more anxiety pills in my dark apartment. Please do not fight with your husband because of a terrible burden like me."
Ginevra rubbed the shoulder of her assistant gently. She immediately threw an angry, resentful glare at her husband. "Are you happy now? You just love bullying fragile people who have absolutely nothing! You always act like a pathetic dictator over my life! Get out of the way!"
She grabbed the arm of her assistant, forcing their way past Dante and onto the polished deck of the yacht.
luca brushed his shoulder against the chest of Dante. A flash of smug, cunning provocation darted through his teary eyes. He tilted his head, a mocking smirk appearing on his lips. "Well, thank you then, sir."
Dante stood perfectly still. He could see right through the innocent act. luca was incredibly cunning. The assistant wanted to separate them, always making sure to make Dante look like the bad and jealous man in every single situation.
Dante boarded the vessel in complete silence. He walked toward the captain wheel.
Ginevra did not even look back at him. She led luca straight down the narrow hallway toward the luxurious private cabin below the deck.
"We need to look over some extremely urgent work files. Do not disturb us." Ginevra slammed the heavy wooden door shut.
Dante stood alone on the open deck. He started the heavy engine. The yacht roared to life, cutting through the rolling blue waves and sailing further into the vast ocean. He stared at the endless horizon, his chest feeling incredibly tight.
This was supposed to be their special romantic day. He had carefully planned every single detail. He wanted to slide a beautiful diamond ring onto her finger under the evening sunset, hoping to finally see a gentle smile on her face.
Instead, he was acting as a glorified taxi driver while his wife locked herself in a bedroom with another man.
His mind raced with agonizing questions.
What were they doing in there? Why did they need a bedroom to review corporate files? He gripped the steering wheel until his knuckles turned completely white.
Two full hours passed in complete agonizing silence. The heavy cabin door finally clicked open.
Ginevra and luca emerged onto the sunlit deck. They looked perfectly normal. Not a single file or laptop was in their hands.
luca ran around the spacious deck cheerfully. He leaned over the metal railings, letting the ocean breeze blow through his styled hair.
"President Ginevra, look at the water! The ocean scenery is absolutely breathtaking! I feel so much better already!" luca flashed a brilliant, innocent smile at his boss.
Ginevra looked at him. Her cold eyes melted into an affectionate, indulgent warmth. "I am glad you are finally relaxing, luca. You deserve a good break after working so hard for me."
Then her gaze shifted toward the steering wheel. Her face instantly hardened into sharp, cold irritation the second she made eye contact with her husband. She marched up to Dante, holding out her expensive mobile phone.
"Dante, take a photo of the two of us." She shoved the device directly into his chest.
Dante stared at his wife, utterly unable to believe his own ears. He looked at the camera screen, then looked at the two of them standing closely together like a perfect romantic couple.
"Are you deaf?" Ginevra rolled her eyes, scoffing loudly at his hesitation. "Stop being so disgustingly jealous over a simple picture. You are always acting like a petulant child throwing a tantrum. Just press the shutter button!"
Dante took a deep breath. He tried to calm his racing heart, forcing himself to think that maybe Ginevra was just too stressed from work lately. She just needed this weekend to unwind her tense nerves. He raised the camera lens, aiming it at them.
luca stepped intimately close to Ginevra. He naturally wrapped his right arm tightly around her slender waist, pulling her body flush against his own.
Dante lowered the phone, his blood boiling instantly.
"It is just a polite gesture." Ginevra lifted her chin, defending the intimate touch before Dante could even utter a single syllable of protest. "Colleagues take pictures like this all the time at corporate retreats. Stop projecting your filthy, insecure thoughts onto us."
Dante clenched his fists at his sides, stepping forward. "Polite gestures do not involve him grabbing your waist like he owns you. This is blatant disrespect to our marriage, Ginevra."
luca gasped loudly. He snatched his arm away from her waist, stumbling backward as if he had been physically struck by a heavy blow. Tears spilled rapidly down his pale cheeks.
"I am so sorry!" luca covered his face, sobbing pitifully. "I did not mean to ruin your marriage! I am just a stupid, clumsy assistant! I should just jump into the ocean right now so your husband can stop hating me! I am so sorry, President Ginevra!"
His loud wailing instantly reawakened the fierce protective instincts inside Ginevra. She pulled luca behind her back, shielding him completely from Dante.
"You absolute monster!" Ginevra glared at Dante, her beautiful face twisting with vicious, cruel fury. "Look at what you did to him! He is already suffering from severe clinical depression, and you are intentionally trying to push him over the edge! You have no empathy! You are a pathetic, useless loser who cannot achieve anything in your own pathetic life!"
Dante stood frozen, absorbing the venomous words.
"You have to torture my kind, innocent assistant just to feel like a powerful man!" Ginevra pointed an accusing finger right at his face. "Have you ever looked in the mirror, Dante? You are absolutely nothing compared to the successful men I work with every single day! I am entirely disgusted by the very sight of your face! I am sick and tired of carrying the financial weight of this household while you throw immature, jealous tantrums! I regret ever marrying such a toxic, insanely jealous freak! You ruin absolutely everything you touch!"
Dante stared at the woman he loved. The vicious, mocking insults pierced straight through his heart like jagged glass. He opened his mouth to defend his own shattered dignity.
Suddenly, the bright afternoon sun vanished completely.
The sky turned pitch black

The woman pressed her back against the alley wall, still trembling, watching the three men groan in a crumpled heap near the warehouse. Her torn dress was soaked through and her bare feet were bleeding from the wet concrete, but her eyes were locked entirely on Dante."How did you do that?" Her voice came out breathless, caught somewhere between terror and pure disbelief. "You kicked them like they weighed nothing."Before Dante could respond, the scarred leader dragged himself out from under the pile. Blood dripped from a gash on his forehead and one of his arms hung at a wrong angle, but his eyes burned with unhinged fury."You think this is over?" He spat a mouthful of blood onto the pavement and reached for a phone in his back pocket with his good hand. "I have got twenty men within five minutes of here. Every single one of them is going to come down on you like a freight train. You just signed your own death warrant, you stupid fool."Dante looked at him the way someone looks at

The taillights of Ginevra's sports car disappeared around the corner and the street went dark again. Dante stood in the doorway, the rain soaking through what was left of his ruined shirt, and he laughed. Not the bitter, hollow laugh from before. This one was different. Quieter. Aimed entirely at himself."Six months of overtime." He shook his head slowly, rainwater dripping from his jaw. "Six months of skipped meals and double shifts to charter a yacht for a woman who left me to drown and then fell asleep in another man's bedroom."He walked back inside and went straight to the study. He pulled open the drawer, took out a clean sheet of paper, and sat down. The pen moved fast. He did not hesitate on a single line.Divorce agreement. Division of assets. Signature lines for both parties. Clean, simple, final. He placed it in the center of the dining table where Ginevra would see it the moment she walked in. He adjusted it once, making sure the edge lined up perfectly with the grain of

Ginevra let out a scream so sharp it echoed off the marble walls of the foyer. She stumbled backward, her heel catching on the edge of the rug, and nearly fell before catching herself on the console table."Dante!" Her voice came out cracked and wild. "What, how, you were, they told me you were dead!"Dante stood in the doorway without moving. His eyes moved slowly from Ginevra's white face to the man trembling on the floor behind her. Luca had crawled backward on his hands until his spine was pressed flat against Ginevra's legs, using her body as a shield. His soaked pants clung to his thighs and a thin trail of liquid ran across the marble beneath him.Dante's expression did not change. Not a flinch. Not a blink. He looked at the two of them the way someone looks at an overturned trash can on the street. Mild disgust and absolutely nothing else."Are you a human or a ghost?" Ginevra's voice trembled violently. Her hand gripped the edge of the table so hard her knuckles turned bone w

Realizing she had accidentally slept through the entire night, Ginevra hushed him quickly with a gentle, apologetic pat on his shoulder. She scrambled quickly off the bed, hurried entirely out of the bedroom, and rushed into the wide hallway before finally answering the incoming call."Hello?" Ginevra rubbed her forehead, her voice thick with exhaustion."Is this the actual wife of the victim?" The rescue captain shouted furiously over the crackling receiver. "Why have you still not shown up at the docks? Are you really his legal wife or just some heartless, random stranger? I have called this number over a dozen times tonight!"Ginevra stopped walking immediately. Her fingers gripped the heavy wooden railing of the grand staircase."What victim are you talking about?" Ginevra asked, her voice trembling uncontrollably. "Explain yourself right now!""We recovered a male corpse from the freezing sea exactly one hour ago." The captain barked coldly, showing absolutely zero sympathy for
