"It's these broke fools."

Tiffany Raymond looked at Carl Gerald with a sneer of disgust. "I really didn't expect you to stalk me all the way here, especially after behaving so arrogantly at the hospital earlier."

She hid behind Austin Tyler, a fake placid innocence played across her dark brown eyes. As Carl Gerlad met eyes with his ex-wife, his rage erupted like a volcano.

"I told you he was still attached to me, he's so disgusting." Tiffany murmured audibly.

"Don't keep your head in your ass, I don't like you one bit. Anything I held for you vanished the moment you walked away with this man." Carl Gerald made himself as clear as possible.

"He's disgusting and mannerless, talking to the fiancee of a soon-to-be business tycoon owner and being stubborn!" Austin stepped forward, staring Carl Gerald straight in the eye.

"W-what?" Sara Gerald felt like she heard wrong. "Fiance?"

"Yes, Sara. I'm going to marry Austin Tyler very soon. Tell your brother to stop stalking me." She twirled her fake curls, batting her eyelash extensions at Austin.

"I'm going to be an undisputed top family in this city, people like Clyde Lex won't even be able to compete, let alone you."

Carl Gerald didn't talk back. He caressed Sara's hand, as though telling her to be patient until the couple was done blabbing.

"Baby, you know my father promised that when he finishes all the formalities needed to successfully secure a partnership, he'll transfer the ownership of that villa to my name."

He spoke to Tiffany Raymond, holding her closely but never taking his eyes off Carl Gerald.

"What, really?! Is it the one with special qualifications?" She too looked at Carl, making sure to make loud the last two words.

People around them slowly drew out of their conversations. They knew that acquiring Vesta Bank's special villa couldn't be achieved through ordinary means.

Everyone heard about the Clyde Lex family being turned down without a second thought. Suddenly hearing of somebody acquiring the property would easily draw attention.

Little did they know the owner had now become none other than the man before them, Carl Gerald.

"It'll be our home after marriage." Austin bragged, inching closer to Carl Gerald.

It was only a whiff but Carl Gerald's heightened senses picked up the scent of booze. It was no wonder Austin Tyler was very talkative.

Suddenly a young man dressed as a butler approached them. He seemed stressed about something. "Miss. Raymond..." He called as he stood somewhat closely to her.

"What now?!" Tiffany snapped at the poor man.

"W-well... the bank called just now–"

"And?!" Tiffany asked impatiently.

"...They're revoking the villa." He said timidly.

"What?!" Austin Tyler and Tiffany Raymond echoed in unison.

"It's true, they said a new owner had come for the house and that he'd be moving in with his family..." He reported.

"O-oh.." Tiffany Raymond was shocked at the sudden news.

"Don't worry baby, we can probably meet them after the event." Austin said, fantasizing about meeting the new owner.

"As if." Carl muttered.

Sara, hearing what he'd muttered, struggled to hold in a laugh. Sara realized that she and her brother were the new owners!

Austin saw the stifled laughter from Sara, as well as the satisfied look from Carl. "What was that you said?!" His blood began to boil.

"I just said that if I was the new owner, I wouldn't like to meet you! Not. One. Bit." Carl said at the top of his lungs.

Without warning, the couple burst into laughter.

"He's so foolish! He thinks he can dream about owning the villa." Austin cackle maniacally.

Small giggles began to escape from the observing crowd. It seemed everyone looked down on Carl Gerald.

"If Clyde Lex couldn't land the property, what makes you think you could dream about it?" Tiffany teased.

"A powerful multinational bank like Vesta has nothing to do with the likes of stalkers as you." Austin began humiliating him in front of the now attentive crowd.

The music slowed down and became disorderly as the musicians tried to hear the ruckus. "Carl, everyone is staring." Sara whispered to her brother.

"Go, I'll be right behind you." Carl told Sara softly. He didn't want to drag her with him into the humiliation.

"Go where?! To spread her legs for more men?" Austin replied smugly.

"What?" Carl's eyes trembled, and Sara's heart dropped.

"You've not even finished mourning that useless mother of yours and now you're encouraging your sister to use her body to make money for you."

Austin leaned in even closer, "Especially after those men that attacked her had fun with her. One. By. One. And you know the funny thing? Tiffany told me that she'd enjoyed it, like the slut that she is."

Carl's eyes becomes bloodshot with rage, he pulled back his sleeve and grabbed Austin's colar. "Damn you!"

He let go of all moral grounding and logical reasoning at that point. Carl Gerald punched Austin Tyler's face, pushing him back slightly.

"Carl!"

"Austin!!"

The two ladies screamed. Tiffany and Sara turned to look at each other, and Tiffany was greeted with a look of disgust before the teary eyed Sara turned back to watch her brother pummel through the arrogant Austin Tyler.

"If you don't love your life, repeat what you said right now!" Carl growled, pulling him up from a table he'd slammed him into.

"Tell your brother to stop this!" Tiffany grabbed Sara's wrist.

Sara shook free, "Why? He deserves it." She said almost about to spew water works. Sara reconsidered at the last minute.

"Carl, stop!" Sara rushed to her angry brother to the surprise of Tiffany. "Please stop, don't do anything hasty."

Carl Gerlad, though seething, listened to his sister. "Don't think I'm done with you just yet." Carl growled at Austin who'd seemed to sober up as he tended to his red nose.

"And what will you do, huh?" Austin Tyler shouted angrily at Carl Gerald.

Carl, pulled out his phone from his jetted pockets, along with a card. It was the one he found earlier, that of Debra Zach's.

He dialed the number and put it on his ear.

"Debra speaking! Would you like anything, General Carl?"

"Tell Juliet Marcus that I said to cancel all partnerships with the Tyler family." Carl said to the surprise of everyone. They knew Juliet Marcus was one of the owners of Vesta Bank.

"And this is not just an order," Carl added, "It's a command.”

The morning sun cast long shadows across the manicured grounds of the National Cemetery, its golden light filtering through ancient oak trees that stood like silent sentinels over countless graves. The air carried that peculiar quality of enforced reverence that all burial grounds seemed to possess...a hushed stillness that felt almost sacred, broken only by the distant sound of cars arriving and the muted conversations of early mourners gathering for a service that would honor one of their own.General Carl Gerald sat in the passenger seat of the armored SUV, his hands resting on his knees, his tactical uniform immaculate despite the sleepless night and the emotional turbulence of the past forty-eight hours. The fabric was crisp, the insignia polished, the image of perfect military bearing. But inside, beneath the carefully constructed exterior of professional composure, he felt like he was being torn apart by competing obligations and crushing guilt. He had left Sara at the hospit

"I'm ordering a comprehensive drug level analysis," he explained as he worked. "We'll measure the exact concentration of every medication in Sara's system...the physostigmine, the metoprolol, the pain medications, everything. If Doctor Wade administered dosages outside the therapeutic range, we'll detect it.""How quickly can we get results?" General Gerald asked."I'm marking this as a critical priority," Anderson said. "The lab will process it immediately. Fifteen to twenty minutes for preliminary results, maybe thirty for the complete panel."Sara looked between her brother and the doctor, fear evident in her pale face. "Carl, am I... am I going to be okay? Did those fake doctors poison me again?"General Gerald squeezed her hand gently. "We don't know yet. But Doctor Anderson is running every test possible to make sure. And if they did administer something harmful, we'll counteract it before it can do serious damage.""I'm scared," Sara admitted, her voice small and vulnerable in

Her phone buzzed with a text from Phineas: "TRACKING KEYCARD USED TO ACCESS STAIRWELL. BELONGS TO MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR ROBERT JENKINS WHO IS CURRENTLY ON VACATION. CARD WAS REPORTED MISSING TWO WEEKS AGO."Two weeks ago. Right around the time when planning for attacks on the Elite Division would have been intensifying.Debra headed for the parking structure entrance, moving fast but trying not to create panic among the civilians in the hospital. As she approached the entrance, she saw General Gerald's vehicle screech to a halt at the security barrier.General Gerald and Phineas emerged from the vehicle at a run, both armed, both moving with the practiced efficiency of experienced operators."Status?" General Gerald demanded as he reached Debra."Lost visual when they entered the service stairwell," Debra reported. "They're either still in the building or they've reached the parking levels and are attempting to flee.""Phineas, security lockdown," General Gerald ordered."Already imp

"He was," Debra Zachs confirmed. "But he almost wasn't, because the witness was so scared she was considering backing out. The prosecutors were getting worried, thinking they might lose their key testimony. And then Juliet spent an entire evening just talking to this young woman. Not interrogating her, not pressuring her...just talking. Listening to her fears, sharing some of her own experiences, helping her understand that doing the right thing was worth the fear.""Juliet had a gift for connecting with people," General Gerald said."She did," Debra Zachs agreed. "And that witness ended up testifying, and the councilman was convicted, and corruption in that city government was significantly reduced. All because Juliet took the time to show compassion to someone who was scared and alone."She took another shaky breath, the memories pouring through her now like a flood she could no longer contain."I remember after the cemetery attack, after Juliet had been shot, when we were all waiti

  • Chapter 548:

"No," General Gerald interrupted. "Sara is my priority. Nothing...not duty, not honor, not strategy...nothing takes precedence over protecting my sister. If I have to miss Juliet's funeral to ensure Sara's safety, that's what I'll do. Juliet would understand. She died protecting people. She'd want me to protect Sara."The raw emotion in his voice struck Debra Zachs deeply. She'd worked with General Gerald for years, had seen him in combat, in crisis, in moments of triumph and tragedy. But she'd rarely heard such naked vulnerability, such absolute prioritization of personal connection over professional obligation."Debra, are you still there?" General Gerald asked when she didn't immediately respond."Yes, sir," she said, her own voice thick with emotion. "I'm here.""Then listen to me," General Gerald said more gently. "I trust you. I trust your instincts, your training, your dedication. You've been Sara's shield for the past hours when I couldn't be there. You've kept her safe, kept

"The imposter systematically compromised five different witnesses," Phineas said. "She fed their locations and new identities to the criminal organizations they were testifying against. Three of those witnesses were killed before we realized what was happening. The other two barely survived assassination attempts.""My God," Debra Zachs whispered."We only caught the imposter because she made a tiny mistake," Phineas continued. "She referenced a childhood memory that the real Sarah Morrison should have had, but got a detail wrong...the color of a bicycle she'd supposedly owned. One of Morrison's longtime colleagues noticed the discrepancy, thought it was odd, and mentioned it to security. That single observation led to a full investigation that uncovered the entire operation."General Gerald's voice cut in again. "Phineas is telling you this because I want you to understand something crucial, Debra. These kinds of sophisticated infiltrations are rare, but they happen. And when they h
