"W— who are you?"
His voice cracked on the question. His gaze fixed intently on the young man in his from whose appearance looked like he'd walked straight out of the slum into his office. He looked entirely different from the rest of the rich arrogant students but there was something extraordinary about him quite he couldn't place.
He just received a call from the school vice Chancellor. It had never happened before. The VC had never given anyone the chance to have his number. Even information is disseminated through his assistance. But he'd just called in today for a strange young man.
He stared at his file on the table, his eyes darting frantically through it, looking for something that would prove this young man was something more than he look.
"Caius Kyoto?"
Caius nodded with a faint imperceptible smile.
"Transfer student because I needed change in environment. 400level Medical student department," He said, "can we proceed to the registration, Sir?"
"My Bad, Right away. Right away, Sir. Please have your seat, Sir." His voice still had the slight tremor and respect now. He scrambled to his desk. His fingers clattered across the key as he entered Caius's Data into the computer yet he occasionally stole glances at him, wondering who the heck is the young man.
He stood up immediately he finish, smiling exaggeratedly. "It's finished, Mr. Kyoto." He said. "Welcome to Kingswell."
Caius rose to his feet and nodded. "Thank you, Sir." He said. "Is there any other thing I'll be needing?"
"Oh, yeah. The school map. It'll help you get familiar around quickly but I'll have someone walk you to your department regardless."
"That won't be necessary, Sir."
But the man already reached his phone. "To my office, Rebecca."
He dropped the phone, his smile still lingering. "It'll be more convenient having someone show you around the first time as you go to your department."
At that moment, the door of gilded. Caius turned slightly to see a young woman dressed in a fitted jean and a white top about eighteen walked in. She glanced at him with a n unwelcoming expression before looking at the man with familiarity.
"You called me, Da—"
"Yes I did." The man cut her off quickly, walking to meet her. "This is Mr. Kyoto. Please kindly walk him to your department— Medicine department."
Rebecca's expression tightened. "You called me for that ag—"
"Just do as I say." Nathaniel Graves's voice hardened slightly before turning to Caius. "Please, Mr. Kyoto. She's also in your department. Makes it more convenient."
"Thanks, Sir. But no need for the formality. I'm just a student."
He said and walked out with Rebecca following behind him in mild anger and confusion why his father was hovering on the ordinary young man like a moth to flame.
"Rebecca." Nathaniel Graves called immediately Caius was out of the room.
"Sir." She turned back.
"I want you to get close to that young man. There is something I need to know about him—"
"Dad!" Rebecca cut through his words. "I hope this isn't another trick to set me up with another guy. Not even someone like him. He looks economically challenged. Thompson Parker is noticing me."
"Just do as I say!"
She nodded and stormed out of the room.
As they moved along the corridor, Rebecca kept distance from him, moving at fast pace like he Caius was plague. Students along the corridor glanced at him laughing as at his appearance but Caius didn't even spare them a glance.
"How long will it take to get there?" He asked and the question made Rebecca stopped abruptly, crossing the distance in there stride.
"Don't think you're worthy of speaking to me just because that old man took interest in you. How did someone like you even get into a school like this. Scholarship I guess. Most of us pay. So stay off and shut up and just follow me because I hate your voice even."
She strutted off without giving Caius the chance to respond. He just stared at her receding figure expressionlessly and continued his walk at a normal pace.
The moment Caius pushed the door of the lecture Hall open, heads turned to him, the professor on the stage paused his lecture seeing the students attentions shifted to the door.
Caius walked in, his footsteps barely audible on the expensive marble.
Then murmuring stirred from the two hundred students in the room with Snickers.
"What the heck! Is that an intruder?"
"He looks like he'd walked in from debris."
"Heck," Another person pinched his nostril. "he's messing up everywhere. Look at him shirt. Even my dog shouldn't wear that. He must be the new cleaner."
Professor Dwayne the Anatomy teacher stepped forward to the edge.
"Are you the new student?"
Caius nodded gently. "Yes, Sir."
The professor nodded. He'd received his information earlier.
"Please step up to the stage and introduce yourself real quick."
Caius climbed the short stairs to stand in front of the two hundred students. For some seconds, his gaze darted from row to row searching for the her, but he didn't see anyone looking familiar.
He released a gentle sigh.
"My name is Caius. Caius Kyoto."
The Hall took it upon themselves immediately.
"What the heck?" One student laughed. "Kyoto? Like Is that the name of a fucking rat?"
Laughter bounced off the high roofing hall.
"Like the name sound really defective."
"It fits him."
"Quiet everyone!!" The professor shouted but the hall went wild, control slipping from his authority. "What in the world?" He mumbled.
Caius's expression was calm all through the surrounding noises of insults directed at him. The students refused to listen to the professor's shout of Decorum and that was when Caius stepped forward to the edge.
"He told you to stay QUIET." His voice was a calm thunder cutting through the hall with with commanding authority that made the Hall fell into a Stunning silence.
Then a male student raised his voice.
"The rookie actually thinks he's a hot shit," He chuckled, "Get the fuck out of our face you m*therfucker!"
Laughter burst out again.
Caius expression darkened Instantly. His eyes fixed on the guy. He has no business with any of them but he won't take any insults on his family.
"Hey you," He pointed at him. "Crawl forward here and apologize at my feet."
"That's a Verbal assault on my mother."

Chapter 13 : The Morning After
For a few seconds, Arabella didn’t know where she was.The ceiling was wrong. The bed was too soft, too wide, the sheets smelling faintly of something clean and unfamiliar instead of the thin detergent Margaret bought in bulk. Her body tensed on instinct, the way it always did when something didn’t match what she expected — and then it came back to her in pieces. Margaret’s voice. The photograph. Caius’s hand around hers in the stairwell. She sat up slowly, pulling the blanket to her chest like she needed to justify taking up the space at all.The room was simple compared to what she imagined a place like this could be — no gold trim, no absurd chandelier — but everything in it was quietly, unmistakably expensive. The kind of expensive that didn’t need to announce itself. She ran her thumb along the edge of the blanket and felt a small stab of guilt she couldn’t fully explain. She wasn’t supposed to be somewhere like this. When she came out, Caius was already up, standing near the win
Chapter 12 : The Hings She Never Knew
“What did you mean by that?”Arabella hadn’t moved from the doorway. The words had come out of her before she’d decided to say them, steadier than she felt.Margaret’s face closed like a shop at the end of a bad day. “I didn’t mean anything. Don’t stand there making a scene out of nothing.”“You said my mother left something behind. You’ve told me for ten years she left nothing. Debts, you said. A funeral I couldn’t even afford to attend properly. Which is it, Margaret?”“Don’t take that tone with me in my own house.”“Then answer the question.”Margaret’s eyes flicked toward Caius, standing quiet by the door, and something in his stillness seemed to unsettle her more than Arabella’s voice had. “You’re upset. You’re not thinking clearly. Go on, then, run off with your little rescuer and see how far that gets you. See who’s still here when he gets bored of playing hero.”“That’s not an answer either.”For a moment Margaret said nothing, and in that silence Arabella felt something shift
Chapter 11 : The Door He Shouldn't Have Opened
Caius was halfway across the cracked pavement when he heard it — a woman’s voice, sharp and clipped, cutting through a window left open despite the evening chill. He stopped walking. It wasn’t shouting. That was the strange part. It was worse than shouting, the kind of voice that had rehearsed its own cruelty so many times it no longer needed volume.“Do you think I don’t know where you were?”He couldn’t make out Arabella’s answer. Her voice, when it came, was too low, too careful, the voice of someone choosing each word like it might cost her something.Caius’s jaw tightened. He glanced back at the taxi still idling at the curb, then at the apartment building — three floors of peeling paint and a stairwell light that flickered like it was considering giving up entirely. He climbed the steps two at a time and stopped outside a door with a number hanging by one screw. He didn’t knock. Not yet. He stood there, hand hovering an inch from the wood, and made himself listen.“I asked you a

Diane stumbled out of the restaurant in rage, her face humiliated and makeup smudged across her face with a slap from her lover she never expected. On her way out , she spun around expecting Ryan to rush after her, but she was even more angry and bittered seeing him still groveling at her step sister's feet like an insect."How disgusting! This is over!!" She hissed, strutting out again. She nearly lost her footing on the marble just before she made it to the door.Inside the restroom, Caius held Arabella's wrist and gently pulled her away from Ryan. He looked down at him then to Marcus Williams who was skill shaking at the side in panic and whispering apology."You know what to do, Marcus," his voice was ice wrapped in silk— no shout— just quiet command. "Someone like him isn't fitting to be in the Cross family business. Using the Cross name to brag, to threat common people. Do you think it woul

Caius looked at her intently."What was that? An accusation? Or Is this a police station where you report your stolen stuff." His voice was quiet and firm."Who the heck are you to speak to me like that?" Diane's voice cracked through the air like a gunshot making heads turned immediately."You're loud, young woman," Caius simply said, "you're shouting on my girlfriend." Diane tossed her hair to the back, diamond necklace catching the illuminants on her neck. She let out a laughter that echoed off the roof like shattering glass."Girlfriend? Huh? Perfect.
