I stared at the message right before my eye, and I could barely believe it.

I could feel the anger inside of me rise so much that I could explode.

All the students grabbed their phones, including Olivia. They all began to laugh while some looked at me.

"I told you this was going to come with consequences." Olivia said with a smirk on her face.

"He should have expected this."

"Eliot doesn't take no for an answer."

"Who doesn't want to be friends with Elliot?"

[ System reward: $23.00 or body build ]

I don't know what to pick for now. My head was crowded as I rushed out of the prom room with Olivia running after me. If there is one thing all the students loved, it was getting involved in others' business.

I got to my car, and I noticed it had been crashed and the tyres were flat. I clenched my hands in anger. My face darted towards Derek, and he laughed.

Joining hands with someone like Leo was a bit scary to me. Whatever Zara must have told me about Leo cannot all he a lie. Shaking hands with him was like trying to dine with the devil. We all know how the story goes. He, the devil, has a way of collecting back. But right now, I was alone in this. No friends and more enemies. I stared at Leo, the rim of my glass hovering just beneath my lips. His question lingered in the air, louder than the chatter that surrounded us. Do I want to learn?A part of me—the foolish, battered part—wanted to shout yes. To cling to whatever thread of survival he was tossing my way. But another part, the one scorched by betrayal and shame, hesitated.“I’m not some charity case,” I said slowly, finally lowering the glass. “If you’re trying to make me your project, don’t bother.”Leo chuckled, folding his arms again, this time leaning forward. “Jason,” he said in a calm, deliberate tone, “if I thought you were a charity case, I would’ve let them execute you

After I pressed the message, I waited. I could literally feel the water streaming down the side of my face. My heart thudded fast like it was going to explode, and I could feel the eyes on me. All waiting for my death. To be executed. But Leo had shown me the way, and I have seen who my enemies are. [System Message: Lord Gang Jason has been granted permanent immunity.] I froze. My hands trembled as I stared at the glowing message on my screen. permanent immunity? Was this some kind of joke? Or maybe... maybe someone interfered. But who? My breathing was erratic. The party noises faded into the background as the words burned themselves into my mind. Twelve hours. That was all I had. A borrowed time, like death was just taking a coffee break before it came for me again. "He cheated!" "How could he have escaped execution?" "I am sure he did something." Another said A gentle smile appeared at the side of my lips. I could see the anger in their faces, and that

I stared like I had just heard the most shocking news of my life. If I was the Lord Gang, then why was my name called for elimination? The bodies of those that were dead were immediately taken away while the rest pretended like nothing had happened. I felt scared. The system had promised me to use my power as the Lord Gang, but then maybe I could reverse my fate. Keep myself from dying. I saw the way they looked at me mockingly. I don't need to be told who did it. I knew they all wanted me gone. But I needed to be smarter. I looked at my phone, and the countdown for my elimination began. Fear, they say, was a terrible thing. My hand was shaky, and my body was heated like I was having a terrible headache. Who was going to hear the date or day he was going to die and smile about it? Everyone at the party avoided me like the plague. Max snubbed me and Scar; he was quick to forget his promise to protect me. "Did he think he could boss us for long?" "Good riddance." "D

Drops of water in my pants. I could feel my undies a bit soaked, and yet I still don't understand why I needed to be scared if I was indeed the Lord Gang. Or was it just a fucking title? Then I felt it. The A/C was on, but I felt colder than usual. My hand went towards my forehead, and boy, I was sweating under the A/C. Cold sweat. The kind that came from knowing death had a habit of choosing at random—or maybe not so random. Maybe it was watching every move we made, every whisper we dared speak. I shoved the phone back into my pocket, gripping the stem of a crystal glass just to feel grounded. Around me, conversations had dissolved into murmurs. The music shifted into something more haunting, slow, and crawling, as if even the melody sensed what was coming. Celeste stood there, watching me. Still. Steady. Her expression was unreadable. “You look pale,” she whispered, and for a moment I saw something in her eyes—sympathy? No. Something more dangerous. Hunger. “You’re scared.”

The doors loomed in front of me, polished black wood etched with strange silver symbols—symbols I’d never seen before, but somehow felt like they were pulsing with meaning. Two men dressed in matching obsidian suits and stone-like expressions stood on either side, their gazes empty but unblinking. One of them stepped forward, holding out a gloved hand.“Invitation.”Ah! I remembered the chauffeur gave me something when I got down from the black car. I slipped the blood-red card from my inner pocket and handed it over. He didn’t even glance at it. He just held it for a second, like he was feeling its weight—or its worth—then returned it and stepped aside. The doors opened inward on their own.And just like that, I was inside. The ballroom stretched impossibly far, a cavern of crystal and shadows. The ceiling shimmered with floating orbs of soft light that mimicked stars. A haunting melody played, one that seemed to press on my lungs with every note. It was elegance wrapped in dread

I lay back on my bed with my suit ironed out. I had gotten the invitation at last. The thought of what was going to happen was the only thought on my mind. Who was the mysterious queen? And was I going to be nominated for the elimination that night?"The gentle breeze blew into my room as I shut my eyes, trying to grab some sleep. I knew Mrs. Tracy had noticed my moody countenance. I couldn't hide it. Each time I shut my eyes and tried to sleep, all I ever saw were different ways the system killed me. The blaring alarm woke me up from another deep sleep. [Ah!]I shouted as I yanked the duvet that was covering my body off myself. The door opened afterwards, and my mother walked in. "Are you alright, Jason?" She looked at me.My chest was heaving up and down as I stared at her. I gulped down the thick saliva at the back of my throat with my gaze locked on hers. "I am fine. Just a bad dream." I said immediately. Mrs. Tracy looked at me for quite some time. "You know, you can tal
