"Run, Olivia. Run!" I shouted as I tried to come between her and the red dot.

Olivia took to her heels while I waited in anticipation. My eyes slowly fixed on the door that was supposed to open.

The door was pushed open, and a janitor walked in with a headset on his ears. It was blinking the red dot.

My mind was at ease when I saw it. "What are you doing here?! Aren't you supposed to be on your way home?" the janitor said, looking at me.

I gulp down the thick saliva at the back of my throat. My chest heaving up and down. "I came to get something down here." I said, picking up one of Olivia's shoes,

The janitor looked at me and laughed. "Is that your girl's?"

I nodded without many words, but then I remembered I had left Olivia all by herself. If anything was going to happen to her, I needed to be there.

I bolted out of the room, running towards the garage. I knew that was the very first place she was going to go. My heart beat fast as the echoes of my footsteps could be heard.

The glow of the message faded from my screen, but the words stayed etched into my brain like a branding iron. The Queen. I glanced at Zara, who was biting her lip, her eyes darting across the cafe shop as if she was expecting the "Queen" to suddenly appear. “This has to be a title,” I said quietly. “Not someone we know by name. Someone who’s already been crowned in secret, maybe by the system itself.” Zara snorted bitterly. “A secret queen in a secret game. How original.” I ignored the sarcasm, scrolling through my messages, but there were no other clues. Just the chilling phrase that echoed louder the more I read it:[ Bonus Task: Secure an invitation from the Queen. ] That meant whoever this Queen was… had power. A lot of it. And I didn’t. “I think we’ve been missing something,” I murmured, pulling Zara closer to me. “All this time, we’ve been focused on Olivia, Derek, even each other. But can you guess who the queen was?" I asked even though I knew she was new to the game.

I saw the list of names right before me, and I let out a gentle sigh. My name was not on the list, but I noticed my phone was still beeping, showing a continuation of the system message. "What the heck?" I said under my breath. [System notification: The names of the last elimination members will be posted on the night of the ball.] I looked at Zara, who was also getting the message I was. "Did you see that?" She said in an outburst. I gulped down the thick saliva at the back of my throat."She is not telling you everything, Jason, and you are going to be a fool to still trust her." Zara said, shaking her head. "Do you still trust her? Is that why you are so reluctant to back me up on this?" I don't know what to say. I looked at Zara and back at my phone. I know the game was all about being slimming, knowing your greatest opponents, and knowing how to turn things into your favor. I needed to remember how I got to where I was now. Derek was slowly going out for the picture, but

I looked at her and smiled. "You are joking, right?" I said, slowly meeting her gaze. I knew one thing about her: she was always having a straight face each time she was confident. "Oh, you are serious." I said, adjusting my back to feel more comfortable. "Care to tell me who you suspect or who you think killed your sister?" "Olivia," Zara said quickly. I frowned for a bit. Olivia. "Are you sure?" I asked again, trying to understand why she would accuse Olivia of killing her sister. Besides, she was still too new to the system to know her way around it. "Zara." I said calmly, trying to touch her. "I know you are angry and you want revenge for your sister, but you can't just accuse anyone. Olivia is the kindest soul I have ever met since I got picked by the system." "Oh, really? Do I need to remind you that this is a game and only one person gets to emerge on top? Do you think she agrees to all of this just because she felt pity for you?" The word hit me like a brick. I f

My face was fixed on the screen of my phone in anticipation of what the system was going to bring out next. I know I was not supposed to be scared, but I couldn't help it. My heart beat fast, my palms were sweaty, and I could feel a drop of sweat dropping from my face. [ Ding! ] [System message: We have two ties. The system might need to pick the winner based on the system entry. "What?" My face went red with anger.Who knew aside from Scar and me? Did he betray me already? A lot of thoughts ran through my mind. I knew why I was scared. The fear of falling prey, a victim again, was all I could think about. I don't know how long I was going to be in the Lord Gang for. "Fuck!" I yelled into the phone and smashed it against the fluffy pillow beside me. My gaze went back to the iPad on the bed, and I saw it blink. At first, I didn't believe it. I thought I was not seeing clearly, but then it went white and a logo came out. WELCOME. I nearly lost it. I grabbed it, and my gaze w

I was not sure if sharing what I had with the system was important. I drove back home with the thought of Scar betraying me. It was easy for him to switch sides when Eliot died. What is stopping him from switching the moment I was boxed into a tight corner? The thought kept ringing in my mind until I bashed the car right in front of me. " What the fuck!" I said looking at my front. I got down immediately feeling a bit apologetic. " Oh my goodness. I am soo sorry. I didn't know..." I was dazed to see the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes on. Her skin glowed like the soft sheen of caramel under the setting sun, and her eyes—God, her eyes—were the kind that didn’t just look at you but read you. She had this calm intensity, a quiet fire, and even though I’d just rammed into her car, she didn’t scream or cuss. Instead, she stepped out slowly, shutting the door behind her with a soft click. Dressed in a sleek black dress and heels that clicked like authority on the ta

My jaw clenched.Scar's question hung in the air like a poisoned dart. I was not sure how to answer him, but I knew he wanted an answer for his question. Does that include Mandy Celine too?I don't need to answer immediately.I kept walking, slower now, my mind spinning. The hallways were empty. Most of the students were now in their various departments, each focusing on their academics. Scar wasn’t looking at me. He knew he had crossed a line, but he also knew me well enough to ask it.“You still love her,” he said quietly. “Even after she left you for Derek. Even after she said you were nothing but a pauper. Is that it?"“I don’t love her,” I said, my voice low and sharp. “I want her back not because I love her but because I am going to claim everything that belongs to Derek." Scar scoffed. “Sounds like the same thing to me.”I stopped walking. He did too, reluctantly turning to face me.“I don’t want her because of love,” I added with a cold smile. “I want her to know she made t
