Episode 18 "I want my birthday gift!"

A Surprise Gift

"I have a surprise for you," Ruth said to Alex as she came back before midnight. They were in Alex's room. "You have done so much, sis. I am happy. Thank you," Alex said, happy as he hugged her. "I know, but I bet you are going to love the other supplies more," Ruth said, her eyes returning to normal. She was happy again.

Alex and Ruth sat on the bed. Ruth took out a box with a red reborn doll. Alex cut the reborn doll, but his eyes almost shifted from its position. He took out the clothes inside the box. It was a school uniform. He looked at it, then at Ruth. "What's going on? This uniform, it's... it's from Paradise Technical School. And this is the admission form. I have signed, only your part is remaining. Would you love to go there?" Ruth asked. "Yes, yes!" Alex answered excitedly. "This is my little gift for you, my beloved brother," Ruth said, giving Alex the admission form. But Boss...?" Alex started.

"Don't you trust me by now? I make sure to take care of the problems first. I have taken care of that," Ruth said. "How?" Alex asked.

(Flashback)

Earlier today, Ruth disappeared. She called Benny to prepare the party for Alex. Then she texted the Boss, saying she is taking Alex for twenty-four hours. The Boss agreed, but just when Alex and his driver disappeared from her sight, she went inside the house. The Boss was surprised, but Ruth did not care and went straight to the point. She took out a paper with the words 'I want my birthday gift! I will be the one to choose.' The Boss was surprised, but then he still said okay. Then she took another paper, 'I want our freedom. No more keeping us here. Where we stay, it will not be your concern, but I will keep working for you.' Hearing this, the Boss stood up and asked, "What about Alex? You just said I..." and Ruth answered him with a paper, 'Alex will work for me. You will not use him anymore. That's his birthday gift from you.' The Boss held his head, confused and angry, but he still managed to keep his cool. "What if I refuse?" he asked with a fake smile. But Ruth was prepared for this. She unfolded another paper, 'If you want me to keep working for you, give me Alex. If not, I will never work for you again.' He read, and his eyes almost dropped. He thought about it.

After some time, he realized that Ruth was more important to him than anything else. If he refused the devil girl, he was not only going to lose her alone, but Alex too. So he agreed.

Ruth was not done yet. She took out another paper, but this time it was a contract. The Boss almost cried. 'Why is this girl so intelligent?' he thought. Ruth sat down, waiting for him to read. It was a five-year contract. She even included rules. One of them was that the Boss was not allowed to hate her or Alex. Doing so would result in the end of the contract. The other one was that he was not allowed to come close to Alex. And the last rule was that he was not allowed to change anything. "But this is unfair, and do you think I can hate Alex? I love him like my own child, for God's sake," the Boss said. Ruth did not say anything. She just gave him another paper and left. 'The world is never fair. Read it well. I'm coming to get it. Bye.' The Boss was angry. He broke things in the house, but in the end, he signed.

That night, Ruth went back, and the contract was signed. She took it and left. No one talked to her. "Wow, sis, you made him sign, and now I'm free? But you gave up your freedom for me, Ruth. Why?" Alex had tears in his eyes. "That's nothing. I will do anything for you, little brother. My freedom is not important. I have done so many bad things in the name of justice, but I'm still not satisfied," for the first time, Alex felt real sadness in her. She was not happy killing people. They hugged each other.

The Heart's Connection

Alex went to his closet and took out a box. "I was afraid to give you this after what you did last year. Can I?" Ruth nodded her head without a word. She opened the box that Alex gave her and took out a beautiful necklace and a bracelet. Alex put it on Ruth. That's when Ruth realized they were wearing matching jewelry. The necklace and bracelet had a wired shape on it. When you combined the necklace and bracelet, it made a half part of a heart. But when they combined Alex's necklace and bracelet together with Ruth's, it made a complete heart. All four pieces were important to complete the heart.

"Alex, normal people give each other a two-piece heart, but you gave us a four-piece one. Where in the world did you get this?" Ruth asked. "Are you saying I'm not normal?" Alex asked, hands on his waist, tapping his foot on the floor. "No, no, no, no. I did not mean you are abnormal. I meant you are over normal. Now sleep," Alex looked at her, but she was already at the door. "But that's the same thing," Alex complained, looking at his sister who seemed to be running away. Ruth smiled and gave him a yes and ran away. Alex chased after her. She locked her door and shouted, "You have to wake up early tomorrow. I'm taking you to school." Alex's laughter was heard.

"You are the only one who can make her smile. She has learned how to joke because of you, and she can do anything for you," Alex heard Benny's voice from behind. He turned around. "Yes, did you see that too? She smiled. She looked even more cute," he said, hiding Benny's clothes. "I did. It's good that you are here now because it was dangerous for her," Benny said, looking Alex in the eyes. "What do you mean? Was I a danger to her?" Alex asked, now looking sad. "It's because you are her only weakness for now, Alex. She loves you so much that someone can use you to get to her. Or if anything bad happened to you, she can destroy the world," Benny said, making Alex open and close his mouth. He just realized that he was indeed Ruth's weakness. He realized his importance to Ruth. Ben was right on one thing. Ruth loved him more than she loved herself. She gave up her freedom for him. Who can do that for a complete stranger?

"One of these days, I will do something big for her," Alex said. "Yes, that's good. And you can do something good for me too by going to sleep before I get killed by your sister. Tomorrow is a school day. Ruth will not go back unless she makes sure you have started school. So please, go to bed now!" Benny said, as if he was crying. He even took out his handkerchief. Alex laughed, made a funny face, and went to bed, running. He was happy that it was hard to sleep, but he eventually fell asleep after playing a nursery rhyme on his phone. Ruth downloaded it with the excuse of, "I can't sing. I will only play it from the phone."

A New Beginning

Alex woke up early the next day. He prepared for school, and the maids helped him too. He went to the dining room to eat breakfast, and his sister was busy on her phone. The news was broadcasting about the death of the five men who died in the forest, but Ruth was not even looking at the TV screen, as if she was deaf. But Alex came closer to watch and was surprised by how Ruth killed the men. She never killed like that. The men were killed mercilessly, as if it was an animal that killed them, and they were even naked.

Alex looked at her, but she was not paying attention at all. "Why did you kill them like that?" Alex asked. By that time, Benny was standing behind the sofa. He was shocked too. He had never told her to kill like that. It was heartless. Alex was standing, and Ruth was on the floor. "Because I was angry. Why else?" she was still on her phone, not even looking at them. "Get your bag, Alex. Time for school," she continued, but Alex did not move. Ruth looked at him, then she stood up and took the plate of food from Alex. She gave it to Benny. "Bring the bag to the car now," Ruth said to the maid, leaving the house and pulling Alex with her.

Everyone in Ruth's house was the Boss's person. Ruth saved them, and they knew they could not betray her. They knew how Ruth was, and they respected her very much. The Boss was wicked. He killed anyone he wanted as long as he felt like the person had become useless. That's why Ruth made sure Alex was safe. She did not want to take any chances.

Alex was smiling. He remembered telling Ruth that he wished to have a normal life where his mom could force him to go to school, pulling him to the bus. Everything was going well for him. Ruth was an excellent sister and mother to him. She took very good care of him. He wished to do the same for her one day. At school, Ruth registered Alex and said her goodbyes, promising him that she would be visiting him all the time. She was going back to her job in town.
