When he came out of the house in a shirt and black trousers that went down all the way to his ankles, he found Claudia next to his Porsche, waiting for him, fiddling with her phone to pass time.

He managed to smile at her, his mind on the consortium. He was supposed to be at work, but because he was not immune to his sister and her best friend's shenanigans, he had to do what she wanted, even if it meant that he had to inconvenience himself.

He opened the driver's door, then did the same to the passenger door, all the while the smile never leaving his face.

In the car, he gunned the engine, then glanced at Claudia as she tried to slip on her seat belt.

He found himself wondering if she wasn't wearing the same gown she had worn the previous night. Where other women would've looked uncomfortable, she looked amazing, even though he felt that the gown was supposed to make her look even worse.

Instead, it was the exact opposite.

“Well, I thought I had seen the best of you this morning

  • Making amends

She could cover her bills if Lutenant bluntly refused to. She glanced at him, but he was totally ignoring them, his eyes on his phone, as though their discussion didn't exist. She could feel the unspoken anger even though he hadn't said anything. “Well, we'll have to use the bus first. It will take us down to the consortium, where we'll get our cars and go down to the restaurant. Have you grabbed your things?” “Yes, I have. Everything is in this bag.” Claudia muttered, touching the bag that was slung over her shoulder. The bus approached the group of three, parking at a distance ahead of them. For the first time since Claudia had interrupted their discussion, Lut spoke. “Are we ready?” Nodding, Aurora found herself wondering if Lutenant's anger towards her was because of her persistent need to push herself forward, or if there was something else attached. * For the first time in days, Richard made it to

  • After hours

By the time the sun had set and the rest of the team members who had come to the outskirts had begun to leave for their various homes, Aurora was hungry and aching so badly for her bed. She smiled at Lutenant, who seemed to the brightest one of them all, how he was still smiling even after such a long day was baffling. To her, it was what made him their superior. Because she couldn't even imagine herself smiling after such a tiring day. “So, what do you say? What is your suggestion? Which buildings do we start working on first?” Aurora almost told him that she performed better as a worker when her stomach was filled and she had eaten, but decided to clamp down on her words by smiling instead before replying. “Definitely the administrative building. It looks okay, but a little painting needs to be done. We're going to be having a lot of clients come in, right? If that is the case we need to make it look very good, comfortable for ever

  • Bail or betrayal

Her social life back in college was good. It was just that life grew serious after a while, and she retreated into her shell. But she always tried to have fun whenever she could.“We're hoping there are no damages whatsoever to this company, right, Mr Frederickson? Tricking us has its consequences, you know.”It was one of the lawyers, a stern faced man called Terry speaking.Mr Fredrickson shook his head.“I would never do that. I support whatever Lutenant is about to do here and respect him and his company way too much. I can't do that.”“Good. If that is the case, you can sign the final document releasing the company which was once yours to its new owner.”The scribbling was done in a few minutes.Aurora watched Lut stand to his feet, a spring in his step. She could literally see the happiness on his face and his every movement.“Thank you for this, Mr Fredrickson. I cherish this opportunity to lead your company, and trust me when I say I will do my best to maintain the standard yo

  • The take over

Moving in the bus alongside two lawyers from Jimmy's law firm, which was the firm that his company always patronized, Lutenant James felt ready for what was the final lap of the company he had just purchased. He wasn't happy. In fact, he was elated. He had seen what he was about to do grow from an idea to reality. And without doubt, he was going to do everything in his power to make sure that the company got the status that he was aiming for.Next to him was Aurora, who was gradually sipping her iced tea.Staring at her lips briefly, he knew that trying to forget that he had kissed her during Natalie's housewarming party was never going to happen. The kiss was at the back of his mind, reoccurring, time and time again no matter how hard he tried to avoid it. It seemed inevitable.“You've looked at my tea so much that I'm beginning to worry you might want a taste.”He laughed, running a hand through his hair.“I admit that I should've brought something along with me, even water at most.

  • Under the radar

“Oh, I understand you well, sir. But getting in touch with this transport company will do us a lot of favors.” She paused, looking around for heads nodding in agreement, and when she saw it, she continued speaking. “The consortium is a huge institution, and I know that at one point or the other, we're going to need multiple means of transportation. This is where they come in.” It was just a contribution, but Lut felt worried. Why was it looking as though she had sabotaged the meeting? He couldn't wait to end it. Claudia always succeeded in making him so nervous no matter how hard he tried to hide it. “That's a brilliant contribution, Claudia. I like that. Oh,” Lut added, smiling and raising his hands as though it was clasped in prayer. “Forgive me for not introducing her sooner. Everyone, this is Claudia, our new intern. She's working under Aurora for the moment, so you're going to be seeing a lot of her and hearing a lot of those b

  • Work force workshop

Because director Edward had given her the permission to be under Aurora, Claudia had followed her to the hall where executives had their meetings. Seeing her there made Lutenant uncomfortable, but he didn't show it. Instead, he tried to focus on the team members that Aurora had chosen. They were all good workers. Ranging from Mr Green, to Doctor Gregory, Alicia, Aurora herself, and Mr Bedford. Lutenant had worked with them previously on the Deja Vu project, and could attest to how hardworking and creative they were. He needed people like them by his side if he wanted the new company he had just purchased to move forward. “Thank you all for coming here. I'll try my best to be as brief as possible because in an hour or two, we'll be on our way to the outskirts where y'all will take your first tour around the company we have just bought.” He paused, looking at each and everyone of them. He knew Claudia's eyes w
