Chapter 3

It has been a slow week, since I became Hajun's bodyguard and at this point I think I have been had, because explain to me why there have been no signs of assassins. It's not like I wish death on my employer or anything but I just don't know how long I am going to last cooking for him, cleaning for him and even fetching coffee for him.

With a sigh I glanced at my watch, only to see that it is almost time for his morning coffee which I had no choice but to bring him even though there are no shortage of maids in this house!. Curse that stupid sparing contest! I knew it, anything involving Hajun is nothing but misfortune. If I spit in it would he notice? I thought with a devious expression. Nah that's too good for him, how about rat poison, I thought with my eyes twinkling but try but before I could turn back to get it he called out to me.

"Doyun-ah. Where is my coffee!" Hajun said with a small smile as he looked at me behind his documents. Jokes on him because i had the sense to swap his sugar for salt before I thought of more permanent solutions on his life with an impassive face I doused his coffee with salt and handed him his cup.

One sip and he spat out the coffee like it personally offended him.

"What's this? Isn't this how you liked your coffee coffee" I said smirking.

"Are you sure you used the right brand" Hajun said inspecting his cup.

"Yes, it is your usual coffee brand" I said sweetly while he continued to observe his cup.

"Really" He said beginning to drop his cup before I caught his hand and tried to force the coffee down his throat.

I had only managed to force one third of his coffee in his mouth before his cell phone went off and he managed to scramble away. Sitting on top his desk I watched as he peaked at me from behind the door frame.

"Daeshim wants to introduce you to the other bodyguards"

I groaned as I said "Does he have to"

"You know how careful daeshim is. It's been years since you were a bodyguard" he said walking over to a jug of water on his desk.

"They might doubt your capabilities" he said with a smirk while he sipped his water.

"Doubting my capabilities" I said with a smirk.

"Now that is a line I haven't heard in a while"

I know I don't look the least bit masculine with my silver hair and big blue eyes but that doesn't give people the right to gawk at me! It's been five minutes since Daeshim introduced me as the head of the bodyguards and I have just been gawked at by some while the others stared at me with a mixture of disbelief and contempt. You can probably guess how bad my reputation is considering the stink eye goon number 1 has been giving me but I paid him no mind as I stared straight ahead.

Immediately, I and daeshim reached his office, I collapsed out of relief. Having people stare at me is unnerving.

I still haven't found anything suspicious or out of place and is beginning to worry me. Everything has been so calm and stable that I am beginning to suspect that something is in motion because ruddle me this how does a man who has been followed around by petty assassins suddenly lose them. It might be my instincts or my beautiful ability to always see the negatives but I needed to take a look around the building to be sure. As I turned a corner to step out of the building, I was ambushed with a sigh I said "I guess it's about time we have that talk."

I followed them as they lead me towards a training facility underground and watched as they tried their best to look intimidating. After sometime if no one saying anything I stepped into the middle of the room.

"So, does anyone have anything useful to say?" I said as I looked around the faces of all the men in the room.

A tall burly man we all know as goon number one stepped closer.

"I don't get how a pretty faced scrawny, wet behind the ears midget, should be able to lead us who have trained for years and gone on successful missions. Why should we be placed under a little boy who doesn't have as much experience compared to everyone in the room" he said while the rest nodded in agreement. I hummed with a smile because I knew what he was trying to do, he had fought me before so he knew he had no chance. So he thought to rally them against me in order to gain the upper hand.

Clever isn't he?

Schooling my face I replied with an impassive tone "I owe you as much explanation as a dog who got his favorite food suddenly replaced. I am not daeshim so if you have any complaint you can take it to him and considering that no one has anything useful to say this meeting is dissolved" I went to walk away before I was grabbed on the shoulder by one of the faces in the room and I just lost it. I left them trembling in so much fear that they would think twice before mouthing off whatever comes to their head.

I searched high and low for any traps or anything suspicious in the building but everything looked spotless. No strange cars have followed us ever since I became his body guard. I checked some of his workers and even some of his close friends but still nothing, I have no idea when or where they are going to strike but I am going to make sure I will protect him with my life.

2 days later at a nearby hospital in Gyeonggi-do province

"Hajun wake up,” I screamed as he was loaded on a stretcher and was rushed to the ICU. He was fine only a minute ago, he was laughing and being his usual annoying self and the next he was convulsing on the living room floor.

It was almost like he was finding it hard to breathe, he kept on gasping for air but it was almost as if he couldn’t get enough of it.

It couldn’t be poison because I made sure to check everything cooked and delivered, he doesn’t have any health issues and has never had any breathing problems.I began to walk around like a madman running everything on my mind and I couldn’t find anything that was remotely suspicious till I remembered that there was a faint smell of almonds always around him.

I remember smelling that the first day I came to live with him.

"What is that sickening sweet smell, you have hanging around this room"

"Oh that, it always come from the flowers that hana, the head maid brings in every morning"

“It doesn’t disturb you”

"No, why would it?"

“No reason” I replied while looking at the flowers strangely. It was beautiful with it’s red colour that fades to white at the tips but it still gave me a feeling of unease because I am sure, I have smelled that odour somewhere. It might just be my imagination.

"How long has it been since she started working for you. It hasn’t been very long, about a year. She was recommended to me by a friend and she seemed lively and very hard-working so I just hired her”

“Just like that”

“Well yes she was recommended by daeshim after all.” He said making me release a breathe of relief.

"What? Are you scared that she might be here to kill me?" he said trying and failing to cover his smirk with the book he was reading.

"As if! I would be glad if she came to kill you. She will be doing the world a great service."

"I would be hurt by that comment, if I didn’t know how much you love me." He said approaching with a mischief in his eyes. I backed away from him slowly, wandering what he might be up to till I saw a feather duster in his hands from my peripheral vision causing me to bolt for my life.

It had been two weeks since I had lived there and there was one particular sunny day that I couldn't take the gear so I called out to hana.

"Hana-ssi the air conditioner broke down, will you mind calling the repair men"

" As you wish " she said before bowing and leaving.

The Next morning I woke up feeling odd, everything and everyone just felt wrong, it might have been my superstition but I just couldn't shake it off.

The day went on like normal, with I and Hajun bickering like children and Hana trying to separate us. She really does have patience being able to take of Hajun despite her young age but I guess that is what makes her more reliable. I guess I was just on edge because nothing seemed to be happening. I was almost relieved till I heard a thud next to me.

I turned towards the sound to see Hajun bleeding profusely from his mouth. I couldn't talk, I couldn't move. I couldn’t only stare as Hana began to scream hysterically. He was bleeding and convulsing on the floor but I couldn't think I could only shutdown and stare in horror at what was happening in front of me before my brain clicked and I dialed 211.
