Chapter nineteen.

Ethan didn't realize he was smiling until Victoria asked, "Why the smile?"

He brushed it off, saying, "Nothing."

Victoria nodded, but her curiosity lingered. "Is there something I don't know about?" she asked again.

Ethan stopped walking and turned to face her. "Why would you ask that?" he asked, confused.

Victoria shook her head, but her mind was racing. She felt like Ethan knew more about the drama that had unfolded at the Swayer mansion than he was letting on, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.

"Get in the car," Ethan said, breaking the silence and jolting Victoria back to reality.

But she hesitated. "I'll take a cab. I'm going home."

Ethan frowned. "It's late. Hop in, you can spend the night at my place."

Victoria's eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected the offer. She nodded, getting into the car.

As they drove, Victoria couldn't help but wonder if Ethan was already noticing her, or if she was just reading too much into the situation.
