Chapter fifty.

Maria's eyes blazed with anger as she hissed, "Stay away from my man."

Victoria turned to face her, a hint of amusement on her face. "I'm sure you're not talking to me," she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Maria moved closer, her voice rising.

"Who else would I be talking to? Husband snatcher!"

Victoria corrected her, shaking her head, "No! Ex-husband. Ethan is your ex-husband. Move on, girl. You're married."

Maria's face twisted in rage, her teeth gritted. She hated Victoria's confidence.

"Caleb and I are getting divorced," she spat. "Watch me win Ethan back."

Victoria smiled, unfazed. "I love a lady who dreams. Ethan can never be yours."

With that, she walked away, pushing Maria aside. Maria's eyes flashed with anger as she almost lost her balance.

Frustrated, Maria hit her leg on the floor, her hands clenched into fists.

"I won't let them win," she muttered to herself. "No, I won't.”

Rose walked up to Maria. “It's time to home,” she said and Maria nodded.

“Sorry for interrupting.” Ethan’s voice slid into the room like he already owned it. His hands stayed buried in his pockets, shoulders loose, that faint, knowing smile tugging at his mouth. The President stiffened. His throat bobbed with a hard swallow as Ethan’s gaze pinned him in place.Ethan’s eyes drifted around the room, ignoring the murmurs, the frozen stares, until they stopped on an empty chair in the front row. “That one,” he murmured, pointing with a small tilt of his chin.He strolled forward unhurriedly, dragged the chair out with a soft scrape, and lowered himself onto it. One leg crossed over the other, his tie pinched between his fingers as he straightened it with deliberate ease. Then he leaned back, completely at ease in a room where everyone else barely breathed.“Go on,” he said, flicking his hand. “Pretend I’m not here.”The camera stayed trained on the President. He didn’t speak, didn’t even blink, his eyes locked on Ethan as if the room had fallen away.Ethan

From the shadows, Ethan stepped forward, calm, confident, smiling. They pulled the trigger. Gunfire erupted like a storm—loud, relentless, merciless. Ethan staggered backward, each bullet tearing another breath from his lungs. He tried to stay upright, gripping at the air as if he could hold onto life itself… but his knees buckled. He crashed to the ground, gasping, blood spreading beneath him in quick, frightening pools. The world around him blurred. His fingers twitched. He tried to lift his head one more time, but it dropped helplessly to the dirt.Across the chaos, the president stood perfectly still, untouched by the violence he’d ordered. The corners of his mouth lifted into a cold, almost delighted smirk as he surveyed the scene. He didn’t take a single step toward Ethan. He didn’t need t

“What did you think I went to do with Don, your grandfather, and your brother?” Ethan asked, slipping his hands to the pillow as he watched her closely. “You really thought I couldn't direct them from home?”Victoria’s brows drew together, a faint frown forming as she tried to connect the dots. He could see the gears turning, her confusion deepening.Ethan stepped closer, voice low and patient.“I was only supposed to destroy the CCTV cameras,” he said. “That was the plan, simple. No footage, no trace.”He paused, the faintest smirk tugging at his lips.“But when I got there…” He tilted his head slightly. “The footage told a different story.”Victoria blinked. “What story?”Ethan’s eyes hardened with memory. “The president kept a memory card hidden in his room. Tucked away where most wouldn’t notice. But he isn’t careless—he watches everything. He was too observant. Too alert. And that made me suspicious.”Victoria’s breath hitched.“And you know me,” Ethan added quietly, a dark edg

“Oh, you son of a bitch, I should have known it was you all along!” he barked.Ethan’s laugh crackled through the phone, low and mocking. The president’s grip tightened around the device.“Once a General, always a General,” Ethan taunted. “Did you think I got this far with a dull brain? Even to steal money, you still have to be smart.”The president scoffed. “I’ll deal with you. This call is being recorded, just so you know.”Ethan let out a cold, bitter laugh. “Go on—play it. Show it to the public. And then watch yourself cry. Because what I have coming for you… you won’t see it until it’s too late, my dear.”The president didn’t answer. His throat tightened, and for a moment he could only stare at the wall, unmoving. His hand drifted to the back of his neck, fingers digging into the tense muscle.“What… do you want?” he asked, his voice lower than before.“Let’s meet,” Ethan said. “I’ll send the address. And if you try anything funny, I won’t hesitate to end you.”The line clicked o

Instantly, the paparazzi swarmed him, flashing cameras and thrusting microphones forward. He slid his hands into his pockets, eyes scanning the crowd with a mischievous glint. To him, this was only the beginning, his opening move against General Ethan. He would make sure Ethan regretted ever crossing him. No general would ever get the upper hand over the president. He scoffed. The reporters pushed closer.“Sir! You requested an urgent press briefing—what’s happening?” one shouted.“What’s your issue with General Ethan?” another pressed. The president stopped walking and slowly removed one hand from his pocket.
